Reprocessing of fluorination ash surrogate in the CARBOFLUOREX process

  • This work presents the results of laboratory scale tests of the CARBOFLUOREX (CARBOnate FLUORide EXtraction) process - a novel technology for the recovery of U and Pu from the solid fluorides residue (fluorination ash) of Fluoride Volatility Method (FVM) reprocessing of spent nuclear fuel (SNF). To study the oxidative leaching of U from the fluorination ash (FA) by Na2CO3 or Na2CO3-H2O2 solutions followed by solvent extraction by methyltrioctylammonium carbonate in toluene and purification of U from the fission products (FPs) impurities we used a surrogate of FA consisting of UF4 or UO2F2, and FPs fluorides with stable isotopes of Ce, Zr, Sr, Ba, Cs, Fe, Cr, Ni, La, Nd, Pr, Sm. Purification factors of U from impurities at the solvent extraction refining stage reached the values of 104-105, and up to 106 upon the completion of the processing cycle. Obtained results showed a high efficiency of the CARBOFLUOREX process for recovery and separating of U from FPs contained in FA, which allows completing of the FVM cycle with recovery of U and Pu from hardly processed FA.

  • Recently, world-wide focusing on the interest for the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions associated with climate change and global warming, South Korea also has set up a national greenhouse gas reduction target and action plans seeking to achieve them. In particular, in the construction area, to encourage green building certification of the building and carbon labeling acquisition of building products, in order to reduce the environmental impact caused by the industrial activities have been in steady efforts. Therefore, this study estimates the life cycle carbon footprint of building construction materials applied to carbon emissions reduction technology and analyzes the results. Through the CO2 emissions analysis in construction phase and maintenance phase of the building, it provides basic resource for future research expansion and establishes a step-by-step whole life cycle carbon emissions reduction plan in new construction and existing buildings.

바이오가스로부터 고순도 CH4 회수를 위한 PSA 공정의 실험적 연구 (Experimental Study on PSA Process for High Purity CH4 Recovery from Biogas)

  • The objective of this study is to optimize the four-bed six-step pressure swing adsorption(PSA) process for high purity $CH_4$ recovery from the biogas. The effects of P/F(purge to feed) ratio and cycle time on the process performance were evaluated. The cyclic steady-states of PSA process were reached after 12 cycles. The purity and recovery rate of product gas, pressure and temperature changes were constant as the cycle repeated. It was shown that the P/F ratio gave significant effect on the product recovery rate by increasing the amount of purge gas in purge and regeneration step. The optimal P/F ratio was found to be 0.08. As the cycle time increased, the product purity decreased by increasing the feed gas flow rate. It was found that the optimal operating conditions were P/F ratio of 0.08 and total cycle time of 1,440 seconds with the purity of 97%.

  • A fast-response $CO_2$ analyzer has been developed for measuring the $CO_2$ concentration during transient condition of a SI engine. The analyzer consists of the non-dispersive infrared absorption method, electrical chopping system and water cooling system. The analyzer has good repeatability, linearity and permissible drift characteristic. Besides, it showed 18ms of a response to measure the $CO_2$ concentration. The fast-response $CO_2$ analyzer was applied to a single cylinder SI engine and the $CO_2$ emission was examined during engine start. Simultaneously, the standard exhaust gas analyzer, which has slow response time, was used for confirming the accuracy of the exhaust gas analysis using the fast-response $CO_2$ analyzer. The developed analyzer showed much faster responsive characteristic than that of a standard analyzer and made cycle by cycle exhaust gas analysis possible. The transient engine operating characteristics will be estimated from the $CO_2$ concentration of engine-out emissions and engine operating variables.

리튬이온 이차전지용 양극물질로서 NaxFe2(CN)6의 전기화학적 성능개선 연구 (Enhanced Electrochemical Performance of NaxFe2(CN)6 Positive Electrode Materials for Lithium-ion Batteries)

  • 프러시안 블루 유사체(Prussian blue analogue)중 가격이 낮은 철(Fe)을 기반으로 하는 Fe2(CN)6와 NaxFe2(CN)6를 침전법으로 합성하여 리튬이온 이차전지용 양극재료로 사용하고자 하였다. Fe2(CN)6는 34.6 mAh g-1의 낮은 가역용량을 발현하였으나, 소듐이 포함된 NaxFe2(CN)6는 방전을 먼저 진행하는 경우에 107.5 mAh g-1의 가역용량을 나타내고, 충전을 먼저 진행하여 구조 내의 소듐을 제거한 후에 사용하는 경우에는 더 높은 용량인 114.1 mAh g-1의 가역용량을 발현하였으며 사이클 수명도 더욱 향상되었다. 그리고, NaxFe2(CN)6의 합성과정에서 0℃, 상온, 60℃의 각각 다른 반응온도를 적용하여 합성하였다. 합성온도에 상관없이 NaxFe2(CN)6는 유사한 초기 가역용량을 나타내었으나, 낮은 온도에서 합성된 경우일 수록 결정자의 크기가 작게 형성되었고, 향상된 사이클 수명을 나타내었다. 0℃에서 합성된 시료의 경우가 가장 사이클 수명이 우수하여 120번째 사이클에서 86.4 mAh g-1의 용량을 나타내며 초기용량의 76.8%를 유지하였다.

정압 베어링을 적용한 초임계 CO2 발전용 펌프-구동 터빈 개발 (Development of Pump-Drive Turbine with Hydrostatic Bearing for Supercritical CO2 Power Cycle Application)

  • In this paper, we present a hydrostatic bearing design and rotordynamic analysis of a pump-and-drive turbine module for a 250-kW supercritical CO2 cycle application. The pump-and-drive turbine module consists of the pump and turbine wheel, assembled to a shaft supported by two hydrostatic radial and thrust bearings. The rated speed is 21,000 rpm and the rated power is 143 kW. For the bearing operation, we use high-pressure CO2 as the lubricant, which is supplied to the bearing through the orifice restrictor. We calculate the bearing stiffness and flow rate for various orifice diameters, and then select the diameter that provides the maximum bearing stiffness. We also conduct a rotordynamic analysis based on the design parameters of the pump-and-drive turbine module. The predicted Campbell diagram shows that there is no critical speed below the rated speed, owing to the high stiffness of the bearings. Furthermore, the predicted damping ratio indicates that there is no unstable mode. We conduct the operating tests for the pump and drive turbine modules within the supercritical CO2 cycle test loop. The pressurized CO2, at a temperature of 136℃, is supplied to the turbine and we monitor the shaft vibration during the test. The test results show that there is no critical speed below the rated speed, and the shaft vibration is controlled to below 3 ㎛.

  • A new cost-effective atomic layer deposition (ALD) technique, known as Proximity-Scan ALD (PS-ALD) was developed and its benefits were demonstrated by depositing $Al_2O_3$ and $HfO_2$ thin films using TMA and TEMAHf, respectively, as precursors. The system is consisted of two separate injectors for precursors and reactants that are placed near a heated substrate at a proximity of less than 1 cm. The bell-shaped injector chamber separated but close to the substrate forms a local chamber, maintaining higher pressure compared to the rest of chamber. Therefore, a system configuration with a rotating substrate gives the typical sequential deposition process of ALD under a continuous source flow without the need for gas switching. As the pressure required for the deposition is achieved in a small local volume, the need for an expensive metal organic (MO) source is reduced by a factor of approximately 100 concerning the volume ratio of local to total chambers. Under an optimized deposition condition, the deposition rates of $Al_2O_3$ and $HfO_2$ were $1.3\;{\AA}/cycle$ and $0.75\;{\AA}/cycle$, respectively, with dielectric constants of 9.4 and 23. A relatively short cycle time ($5{\sim}10\;sec$) due to the lack of the time-consuming "purging and pumping" process and the capability of multi-wafer processing of the proposed technology offer a very high through-put in addition to a lower cost.

배열을 이용한 이산대수의 사이클 검출 (Cycle Detection of Discrete Logarithm using an Array)

  • 지금까지는 Pollard의 Rho 알고리즘이 대칭키의 암호를 해독하는 이산대수 문제에 대해 가장 효율적인 방법으로 알려져 있다. 그러나 이 알고리즘은 거인걸음 보폭 m=⌈${\sqrt{p}}$⌉개의 데이터를 저장해야 하는 단점과 더불어 O(${\sqrt{p}}$) 수행 복잡도를 보다 감소시킬 수 있는 방법에 대한 연구가 진행되고 있다. 본 논문은 이산대수의 사이클 검출을 위한 Nivasch의 스택 법의 데이터 갱신 횟수를 73% 이상 감소시키는 배열법을 제안하였다. 제안된 방법은 배열을 적용하였으며, (xi<0.5xi-1)∩(xi<0.5(p-1))인 경우에 한해 배열 값을 갱신하는 방법을 적용하였다. 제안된 방법은 스택법과 동일한 모듈러 연산횟수를 보였지만 스택 법에 비해 이진탐색 법을 적용하여 배열 갱신 횟수와 탐색 시간을 획기적으로 감소시켰다.

  • Lithium secondary batteries have become an important power source for portable electronic devices such as cellular phones, laptop computers. Presently, commercialized lithium-ion batteries use a LiCoO2 cathode. However, due to the high cost and environmental problems resulting from cobalt, an intensive search for new electrode materials is being actively conducted. Recently, solid solution LiMn1-xNixO2 have become attractive because of high capacity and enhanced safety at high voltages over 4.5 V. The Li1.6Ni0.35Mn0.65O2 compounds were conventionally prepared by a sol-gel method, which can produce the layered Li-Ni-Mn-O compounds with a high homogeneity. And by adding a graphene 2wt% the first charge-discharge voltage profiles was increased over Li1.6Ni0.35Mn0.65O2 compound. Also, the variation s of the discharge capacities with cycling showed a higher capacity retention rater. In this study, material lifecycle evaluation was performed to analyze the environmental impact characteristics of Li1.6Ni0.35Mn0.65O2 & graphene 2wt% half-cell manufacturing process. The software of material life cycle assessment was Gabi. Through this, environmental impact assessment was performed for each process. The environmental loads induced by Li1.6Ni0.35Mn0.65O2 & graphene 2wt% synthesis process were quantified and analyzed, and the results showed that the amount of power had the greatest impact on the environment.

  • In this paper we introduce a new graph labeling called k-prime cordial labeling. Let G be a (p, q) graph and 2 ≤ p ≤ k. Let f : V (G) → {1, 2, . . . , k} be a map. For each edge uv, assign the label gcd (f(u), f(v)). f is called a k-prime cordial labeling of G if |vf (i) − vf (j)| ≤ 1, i, j ∈ {1, 2, . . . , k} and |ef (0) − ef (1)| ≤ 1 where vf (x) denotes the number of vertices labeled with x, ef (1) and ef (0) respectively denote the number of edges labeled with 1 and not labeled with 1. A graph with a k-prime cordial labeling is called a k-prime cordial graph. In this paper we investigate the k-prime cordial labeling behavior of a star and we have proved that every graph is a subgraph of a k-prime cordial graph. Also we investigate the 3-prime cordial labeling behavior of path, cycle, complete graph, wheel, comb and some more standard graphs.
