  • This paper proposes a transmission algorithm that optimizes transmission power and sub-channel allocation to maximize energy efficiency considering characteristics of the channel impedance of power lines in power line communication systems. Since the received power at the receiver is influenced by the characteristics of the power line channel, it is necessary to consider channel characteristics when developing a transmission strategy in a power line communication systems. In addition, the energy efficiency should be optimized while meeting the practical constraints, such as the maximum transmission power limit of the transmitter and minimum quality of service for each user. In the computer simulation, we confirm that the energy efficiency of the proposed algorithm is improved compared to baseline schemes.

  • The fifth generation (5G) is a state-of-the-art mobile communication access technology that uses sub 6 GHz bands and mmWave. Presently, the 5G network is partially deployed along with 4G in areas with dense traffic. In the future, the demand for the 5G bandwidth may increase. Thus, it is necessary to study the coexistence between the 5G and radio systems using adjacent or same channels to eliminate the interference between radio systems and efficiently utilize the frequency. This paper analyzed the impact of 5G new radio downlink on the fixed-satellite service earth station operating at the co-channel and adjacent channel in the upper 3.7 GHz band using the Spectrum Engineering Advanced Monte Carlo Analysis Tool, which is based on the Monte Carlo method. The results of this paper can be utilized for planning the frequency allocation of 5G networks; they can also be used as a guideline for deploying 5G base stations around a fixed-satellite service earth station.

  • A new two-dimensional analytical model for the potential distribution and drain-induced barrier lowering (DIBL) effect of fully depleted short-channel Silicon-on-insulator (SOI)-MESFET's has been presented in this paper. The two dimensional potential distribution functions in the active layer of the device is approximated as a simple parabolic function and the two-dimensional Poisson's equation has been solved with suitable boundary conditions to obtain the bottom potential at the Si/oxide layer interface. It is observed that for the SOI-MESFET's, as the gate-length is decreased below a certain limit, the bottom potential is increased and thus the channel barrier between the drain and source is reduced. The similar effect may also be observed by increasing the drain-source voltage if the device is operated in the near threshold or sub-threshold region. This is an electrostatic effect known as the drain-induced barrier lowering (DIBL) in the short-gate SOI-MESFET's. The model has been verified by comparing the results with that of the simulated one obtained by solving the 2-D Poisson's equation numerically by using the pde toolbox of the widely used software MATLAB.

  • This paper presents an energy efficient MAC protocol for delay-sensitive data transmission over wireless sensor network. In general, energy consumption and delay depend on Channel Monitoring Interval and data sensing period at each sensor node. Based on this fact, we propose a new preamble structure to effectively advertise Channel Monitoring Interval and avoid the overhearing problem. In order to pursue an effective tradeoff between energy consumption and delay, we also develop a Channel Monitoring Interval determining algorithm that searches for a sub-optimal solution with a low computational complexity. Finally, experimental results are provided to compare the proposed MAC protocol with existing sensor MAC protocols.

  • The double gate(DG) MOSFET is a promising candidate to further extend the CMOS scaling and provide better control of short channel effect(SCE). DGMOSFETs, having ultra thin updoped Si channel for SCEs control, are being validated for sub-20nm scaling, A channel effects such as the subthreshold swing(SS), and the threshold voltage roll-off(${\Delta}V_{th}$). The propsed model includes the effects of thermionic emission and quantum tunneling of carriers through the source-drain barrier. The proposed model is used to design contours for gate length, channel thickness, and gate oxide thickness.

  • In this paper, we present a novel blind adaptive multiuser detector structure and three robust recursive filters to improve the performance in CDMA environments: Sigma point kalman filter (SPKF), particle filter (PF), and Gaussian mixture sigma point particle filter (GMSPPF). Our proposed robust recursive filters have superior performance over a conventional extended Kalman filter (EKF). The proposed multiuser detector algorithms initially use Kalman prediction form to estimated channel parameters, and unknown data symbol be predicted. Second, based on this predicted data symbol, the robust recursive filters (e.g., GMSPPF) is a refined estimation of joint multipaths and time delays. With these estimated multipaths and time delays, data symbol detection is carried out (Kalman correction form). Computer simulations show that the proposed algorithms outperform the conventional blind multiuser detector with the EKF. Also we can see it provides a more viable means for tracking time-varying amplitudes and time delays in CDMA communication systems, compared to that of the EKF for near-far ratio of 20 dB. For this reason, it is believed that the proposed channel estimators can replace well-known filter such as the EKF.

  • The vasorelaxant effect of serotonin reuptake inhibitor fluoxetine was investigated in rat isolated thoracic aorta. Fluoxetine induced a concentration-dependent relaxation in aorta precontracted with phenylephrine (PE) and KCl. These relaxations were suppressed by removal of the endothelium (-E) or pretreatment of nitric oxide synthase inhibitors, N(G)-nitro-L-arginine (L-NNA) and N(omega)-nitro-Larginine methyl ester (L-NAME), guanylate cyclase inhibitors, methylene blue (MB) and 1H-[1,2,4]oxadiazolo [4,3-a]quinoxalin-1-one (ODQ), and $Ca^{2+}$ channel blockers, nifedipine and verapamil, in PE-precontracted +E rings. However, fluoxetine-induced relaxations were not suppressed by pretreatment of $K^{+}$ channel blockers, tetrabutylammonium and glibenclamide, in PE-precontracted endothelium intact (+E) rings. The fluoxetine-induced relaxations were not suppressed by removal of the endothelium or pretreatment of LNNA and MB in KCl-precontracted +E rings. Also, fluoxetine inhibited PE-induced sustained contraction in +E rings. These inhibitory effects of fluoxetine on contractions could be reversed by removal of the endothelium or pretreatment of L-NNA, L-NAME, MB, ODQ, nifedipine and verapamil, but not by pretreatment of etrabutylammonium and glibenclamide. These findings suggest that the vasorelaxant effect of fluoxetine is modulated by intracellular $Ca^{2+}$ with an involvement of endothelial NO-cGMP pathway and also may be related to the inhibition of $Ca^{2+}$ entry through voltage-gated channel.

  • Fundamental results obtained from an atomic force microscope (AFM) chemically-induced direct nano-lithography process are presented, which is regarded as a simple method for fabrication nm-scale devices such as superconducting flux flow transistors (SFFTs) and single electron tunneling transistors (SETs). Si cantilevers with Pt coating and with 30 nm thick TiO coating were used as conducting AFM tips in this study. We observed the surfaces of superconducting strip lines modified by AFM anodization' process. First, superconducting strip lines with scan size 2 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$${\times}$2 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ have been anodized by AFM technology. The surface roughness was increased with the number of AFM scanning, The roughness variation was higher in case of the AFM tip with a positive voltage than with a negative voltage in respect of the strip surface. Second, we have patterned nm-scale oxide lines on ${YBa}-2{Cu}_3{O}_{7-x}$ superconducting microstrip surfaces by AFM conductive cantilever with a negative bias voltage. The ${YBa}-2{Cu}_3{O}_{7-x}$ oxide lines could be patterned by anodization technique. This research showed that the critical characteristics of superconducting thin films were be controlled by AFM anodization process technique. The AFM technique was expected to be used as a promising anodization technique for fabrication of an SFFT with nano-channel.

  • In this part, an implicit time dependent solution is presented for the Boltzmann transport equation discretized by the analytic coarse mesh finite difference method (ACMFD) over the spatial domain as well as the simplified P3 (SP3) for the angular variable. In the first part of this work we proposed a SP3-ACMFD approach to solve the static eigenvalue equations which provide the initial conditions for temp dependent equations. Having solved the 3D multi-group SP3-ACMFD static equations, an implicit approach is resorted to ensure stability of time steps. An exponential behavior is assumed in transverse integrated equations to establish a relationship between flux moments and currents. Also, analytic integration is benefited for the time-dependent solution of precursor concentration equations. Finally, a multi-channel one-phase thermal hydraulic model is coupled to the proposed methodology. Transient equations are then solved at each step using the GMRES technique. To show the sufficiency of proposed transient SP3-ACMFD approximation for a full core analysis, a comparison is made using transport peers as the reference. To further demonstrate superiority, results are compared with a 3D multi-group transient diffusion solver developed as a byproduct of this work. Outcomes confirm that the idea can be considered as an economic interim approach which is superior to the diffusion approximation, and comparable with transport in results.
