Since the use of textile has become more extensive and applied for various products, today, the importance of utility, ornament and civilization of textile is emphasized. Textile design should be able to satisfy the designer's creativity and his/her world of art. Moreover, it should be appropriate for the industrial technology circumstances, and taste of consumers. In Korea, traditional culture has been extremely valued, allowing people to be more interested in textile designs derived from traditional cultural. Therefore, designs inspired by the spirit and sense of traditional patterns has been used to develop modern textile designs. Prior research on products, however, show that cultural motive was insufficient, therefore, in this research the purpose is to design textiles and to develop Korean neckties, an essential component of men's attire, by adapting Korean traditional patterns. In order to conduct the research, first, numerous parers on Korean traditional patterns have been studied to select fundamental data about the development of necktie textile designs. Second, Korean traditional patterns were applied while following the target and concept, and two pieces of necktie textile designs have been suggested. Patterns had been designed by hand drawing and CAD system, they have been suggested as a portfolio. As a result, this article suggests new necktie designs utilizing Korean traditional patterns and, attempts to develop particular pattern designs, which have power to accommodate globalization and to express the special qualities of Korea.

With such basic conceptions in mind. this study was aimed at reviewing the unique formative aesthetics of scarves for creation of modern apparel design. To this end, the drapeability of the rhythmically wrinkled fabric of scarf as well as its tying and enclosing representation were introduced into the apparel details and silhouette to create an apparel design flattering the moderns unique sense of aesthetics and emotion. In the same vein. threads were superimposed on the planar fabric to express a sense of volume and thereby, pursue a unique decorative effect of rich texture. Specifically. the objectives of this study are to highlight the practical use of scarf warming and its decorative formative aesthetics and thereby, apply it to apparel designs and develop an art fabric using the machine embroidery technique. and ultimately, suggest the possibility of unique but highly value-added apparel designs.

Jeans fashion in contemporary fashion has various meanings and values, and the importance of it increases. The purpose of this study is to analyze the formative feature characteristics and the aesthetic values of Korean jeans fashion. Fashion photograghs from leading monthly fashion magazines from 2000 to 2005 were analyzed. The types of styles and the formative feature characteristics and the aesthetic values of Korean jeans fashion were studied. The major conclusions of the study are as follows 1. The types of Korean jeans fashion styles were western style, punk style, neo classic style and ethnic style. 2. The characteristics of Korean jeans fashion designs were the varieties in material, color, technique of expression and application. 3. The formative feature characteristics were traditionalism, sexualism, extraordinarily and exhibitionism. Korean jeans fashion has developed creative and decorative designs through various designs and styles. As the activities of the people can be increased in the future, the function and the design of jeans fashion can be developed diversely.

The Coptic tapestry has been carried out since the ancient Egypt. The aim of this study is to revive the Coptic tapestry and its cultural, aesthetic influence on the modern denim fashion. Denims have been developed as one of trendy casual wear to symbolize youth and worn by various age ranges. It evolved into a fashion icon due to its ability to change with every social and cultural evolution. In this study, I presented many designs inspired from the Coptic tapestry textiles. The Coptic tapestry style can be a vital starting point for new ideas for decorating denims. A survey has been conducted for two groups of adult females. The survey results clarified that our designs were approved by the younger group than the older one. I hope this study contributes to developing designs inspired by the past artifacts.

The change of consumers' lifestyles causes frequent study on beds along with growth of economy, improvement of education and increase of dwelling in new towns and nuclear family. Beds are frequently developed in recent years since consumers' lifestyles increasingly change caused by transformation of types of dwelling, influence of western lifestyle, and increase uses of a bed. Also, this transformation causes needs for research on bed designs. A Bed is an essential item in a life since people spend one third of a day in Also, in contemporary, the ages of consumers are varied from infants to seniors. The study examines the importance of beds which playa major role in households. Moreover, the purpose of this study of beds focused on surface materials, colors, and designs is suggesting bases for future developments.

The purpose of this study is confirming the design characteristics and brand strategies of Ralph Lauren's products through the advertising pictures on internet website. Methods of this study are the analysis of his brand growth process, concept strategy and designs by web promotion sites. Also this study defined his brand character and fashion mind. Simon's two-stage designs are frequently used in phase II single-arm trials for efficacy studies. A concern of safety studies is too many patients who experience an adverse event. We show that Simon's two-stage designs for efficacy studies can be similarly used to design a two-stage safety study by modifying some of the design parameters. Given the type I and II error rates and the proportion of adverse events experienced in the first stage cohort, we prescribe a procedure whether to terminate the trial or proceed with a stage 2 trial by recruiting additional patients. We study the relationship between a two-stage design with a safety endpoint and an efficacy endpoint as well as use simulation studies to ascertain their properties. We provide a real-life application and a free R package gen2stage to facilitate direct use of two-stage designs in a safety study.

This study evaluated designs via the consumers' function and design preferences survey for using product design images, virtual avatar wearing images and product explanations that identified consumers' function and design preferences for knee protection pads as well as to develop movement assistive knee pad designs. We developed Design A for men and Design B for women. For Design A, the front of the knee supports muscles and alleviates pain with a hole. Mesh material with good ventilation was applied to enhance wearing comfort. The color was achromatic for a modern style, and the hook fastener and loops enabled easy wear and removal of the pad while controlling size and pressure strength. For Design B, taping details seamlessly support muscles in the knee area with fabrics less than 0.1 cm thick and with long sleeves in the diverse sizes. The design's satisfaction assessment showed that potential consumers were satisfied with Design A and Design B for overall design and functional features. Over 77% wanted to use/wear and purchase designs; in addition, over 78% expected it would help with walking and relieve knee pain. The results can be helpful for designers when deciding designs for manufacturing and commercializing kneepad products.

The author has explored whether legal protection of fashion designs is possible under the current Korean Copyright Act with the purpose of promoting the understanding of the legal principles of the copyright law among fashion professionals. It examined the general provisions of the copyright law as well as the requisites for establishment of "works of authorship" and the types of protection stipulated by the copyright law, which are needed to understand the possibilities of legal protection for fashion designs under the law. It then analyzed several leading cases in the fashion designs sector for the interpretation of related legal principles. The Copyright Act defines "works of authorship" for protection as the creative works that express human ideas or emotions. Works to be legally protected under the law include artistic works that are equipped with the prerequisites for establishment of "works of authorship", or fashion designs that are equipped with the prerequisites for establishment of an independent applied artistic works whose originality is distinguishable from articles.

Ergonomic product design considering users' natural use motion is of importance to improve the usability and satisfaction of a product. A five-step process of product design was developed in the present study by measuring and analyzing users' natural product-use motion with a motion capture system. The developed process was applied to ergonomic design improvement of a half guard installation part of refrigerator; new guard designs (diagonal and arc shape) were developed with the process and evaluated in terms of validity during the development as two measures (task satisfaction and similarity of natural motion). According to the evaluation result, the satisfaction at putting in- and out-task of new guard designs ($6.3{\pm}0.5$ points) was significantly higher than that of existing guard designs ($3.3{\pm}1.0$ points); the difference between natural motion and product-use motion in new guard designs ($1.0{\pm}0.3cm$) was significantly less than that of existing guard designs ($2.0{\pm}0.2cm$). The proposed process of natural motion analysis and product design is applicable to ergonomic product design and evaluation.
