Purpose: The purpose of this study was to enhance curriculum satisfaction of dental laboratory technology and curriculum demands. Methods: From March 5 to March 31, 2019, a self-written questionnaire was conducted for 195 students from the department of dental laboratory technology at a university in Gangwon-do. The analytical methods used were descriptive statistical analysis, frequency analysis, cross analysis, correlation analysis and reliability analysis. The collected data was used for SPSS 18.0 for Windows statistics program. Results: The demand of the school education includes systematic experiments and demand of practical training, acquisition of professional knowledge, introduction of advanced technology curriculum, reduction of national examination-oriented curriculum, and increased professionalism and professionalism as professional professionals. In addition, they were strongly aware of the necessity of digital education related to CAD / CAM, and there was a high demand for how to operate programs, scanning and design. Objectives: The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between the self-efficacy of dental hygiene students and their satisfaction with clinical practice to provide information for developing programs aimed at instilling self-efficacy and boosting satisfaction with clinical practice. Methods: A self-reported survey was conducted with dental hygiene students in the metropolitan area. Of those surveys distributed, 243 questionnaires were analyzed. Results: The results of this study are as follows: 1. Regarding self-efficacy, the subjects had a mean result of 2.96(out of five points), and 3.09 points in satisfaction with clinical practice. 2. As for the subfactors of self-efficacy, the students who got higher grades, whose awareness of dental hygienists was better and whose awareness of dental hygienists after on-site clinical practice was better scored higher in terms of confidence and self-regulation. In task difficulty preference, the students who were more satisfied with majoring in dental hygiene and whose awareness of dental hygienists was better scored higher. In terms of motivation for choosing the dental hygiene department, the students scored higher when the department was their preferred option. 3. In satisfaction with clinical practice, the students who were aware of dental hygienists at the time of college entrance was better. Those whose awareness of dental hygienists after experiencing clinical practice was better and who were more satisfied with majoring in dental hygiene expressed more satisfaction with clinical practice. 4. Satisfaction with clinical practice was higher when self-efficacy was better. Conclusions: Based on the above results, it is thought that developing programs that can enhance self-efficacy and include on-site clinical practice would be beneficial as higher self-efficacy levels were related to higher clinical practice satisfaction.
Purpose: The purpose of this study is to compare and analyze the difference in chewing ability according to the malocclusion and orthodontic treatment for the university students who are adults and consider the effect of the malocclusion and orthodontic treatment on chewing ability. Methods: This study conducted the survey for 400 students of the two universities located in Daegu, Gyeongsangbuk-do, and except for the poor or erroneous surveys among 400 survey copies of the participants, total 363(90.75%) survey copies were used for the study analysis. Results: The total result of chewing ability for the food showed that middle-class students had higher chewing ability than high-class students and the students who didn't get orthodontic treatment had higher chewing ability than the students who are getting orthodontic treatment now. In the chewing ability for various kinds foods, in case of young radish kimchi, the result showed that the students who have a little crowding or normal level of teeth or normal teeth has higher chewing ability than the students who have severe crowding level of teeth, and in case of the foods including kkakdugi or galbi, the result showed that the students who have normal teeth location or the 3rd level malocclusion have higher chewing ability statistically significantly than the students who have the 2nd malocclusion. Conclusion: For the chewing ability, the middle-class students in the home economic power showed significantly higher chewing ability than the high-class students in the home economic power, and the students who didn't get any orthodontic treatment showed higher chewing ability statistically significantly than the students who are getting orthodontic treatment now.
Purpose: The study aims to analyze differences in the satisfaction level of dental technology students regarding in-person and online classes. It also aims to provide fundamental resources for the improvement of major subject class methods that will improve students' self-directed learning abilities, thereby affecting their class satisfaction. Methods: In this study, a self-administered questionnaire was conducted from November 8 to November 30, 2021, for 256 dental technology students. The collected data were analyzed using the IBM SPSS Statistics ver. 21.0 statistical program. Frequency and percentage, mean, standard deviation, t-test, ANOVA, post-hoc test, correlation analysis, and linear regression analysis were performed to analyze the data. Results: In the self-directed learning abilities, the attitude of the learners was shown to have the highest positive (+) correlation in both in-person and online classes, with a statistically significant effect (p<0.001) on class satisfaction in major subject classes. Moreover, the explanatory power of the model was 52.2% and 39.7%, respectively. Conclusion: We concluded from the study that there is a need for professors to improve teaching methods to increase learners' self-directed learning competence, through problem-based learning, discussion learning, team-based collaborative learning, and mentor-mentee learning, thereby enabling learners to lead classes themselves.
Objective: The purpose of this study was to research of investigation of dental technology students about health educator systems. Methods: A survey was performed on 102 subjects in March in 2010. There search tool was a structured questionnaire. The collected data was analyzed by frequency, descriptive, chi-square test and Pearson's correlation coefficient by Statistical Package for the Social Sciences version 12.0. Results: Respondent most did not know about health educator systems. But, positive opinion for it. And necessity about education appeared high in subjects. There are a lot of interests in health educator system(p=0.000). Conclusion: We thought that interest of dental technology student's rise more.
Background: Dental hygienists undergo 3 or 4 years of college education, and dental hygienist education must receive continuous feedback through evaluation. The purpose of this study was to compare the educational performance of students from the Department of Dental Hygiene in 2018 with those from other departments in the healthcare field. Methods: We used data from the National Assessment of Student Engagement in Learning, conducted by the Korean Educational Development Institute in 2018. The survey data of 55 dental hygiene students and 60 healthcare students at K University were provided after excluding all identifying information. An independent t-test was used for comparisons between the Department of Dental Hygiene and other healthcare departments. Results: Regarding class-related activities, dental hygiene students were passive in presentations, discussions, and projects and had significantly lower grades in cooperative learning and challenging learning. Regarding extra-class activities, dental hygiene students had significantly lower global learning and external experiences, domestic experiences, club activities, and interactions with professors. Regarding learning outcomes, students had significantly lower grades in writing, speaking, critical and analytical thinking, data evaluation, understanding of data meaning, problem-solving ability, goal setting and execution, core content extraction, human and material resource utilization, creative convergence thinking, statistical understanding and analysis, information technology use, collaboration, sense of community, stress management, time management, and foreign language proficiency. Conclusions: Dental hygiene education requires innovation in educational methods and efforts of instructors to improve poor learning activities and outcomes.
Purpose: The present study is an analysis of the extents of class satisfaction of college students who had applied the design thinking technique to capstone design class. Methods: The experimental method involved an analysis of 122 cases of data where advance and post replies were performed for the subject by students who had applied the design thinking technique and students who had not. The students involved had attended the capstone design class as a junior in the Department of Dental Technology at D University. Results: In the satisfaction with performance process of the capstone design class, five questions among nine had a high positive rating, while all eight questions on the satisfaction with performance methods had a high negative rating. Among ten questions on subjective learning outcomes, six showed a high positive rating. After the application of the design thinking class method, all mean values of the group with the application were higher than the group with no application in satisfaction with performance process, satisfaction with performance method, and subjective class outcomes. Hence, the design thinking class did have positive effects on the students' improvement of class. Conclusion: Based on the results of the study, it is implied that the considerations about diverse class composition methods and operation methods capable of improving the students' satisfaction are needed for efficient operation of the capstone design class.
In this study, in order to analyze the effects of dental technology students' degree of satisfaction with their major and sense of self-esteem on college life stress, we conducted a self-administered questionnaire for 270 dental technology students. conducted a frequency analysis, t-test, one-way ANOVA, correlation analysis, and multiple regression analysis, and the results are as follows. As a result of analyzing the degree of major satisfaction, there was a significant difference in the department satisfaction (p<.05). The average score in major satisfaction was relatively high at 3.68. As a result of analyzing the level of self-esteem, there was a significant difference in grade and department satisfaction (p<.05). The average score in self-esteem question was relatively high at 3.75. As a result of analyzing the level of college life stress, there was a significant difference in the department satisfaction (p<.05). The average score for each college life stress area was relatively low at 1.97. As a result of analyzing the correlation between college life stress, major satisfaction, and self-esteem, college life stress was found to have a significant negative (-) correlation with major satisfaction and self-esteem. As a result of a regression analysis conducted on the effect of self-esteem and major satisfaction on college life stress, the variable that most influenced college life stress was found to be the self-esteem factor.

Background: The Fourth Industrial Revolution highlights the importance of artificial intelligence (AI) and digital literacy in dental hygiene education. However, research on students' attitudes toward AI and their digital literacy levels is limited. Therefore, this study investigated the attitudes of dental hygiene students toward AI and digital literacy levels. Methods: In total, 167 dental hygiene students in Baekseok University participated in the study and provided informed consent. The survey tool included general characteristics, smartphone usage patterns, attitudes toward AI, and digital literacy levels. Attitudes toward AI and digital literacy based on general characteristics and smart device usage were analyzed using t-tests and one-way ANOVA. Correlations among attitudes toward AI, digital literacy awareness, and digital literacy behaviors were analyzed using Pearson's correlation analysis. The impact of AI attitudes and digital literacy awareness on digital literacy behavior was examined using linear regression analysis. Results: Students with higher interest in their major had more positive attitudes toward AI, and those with higher smart device usage showed increased AI attitudes and digital literacy (p<0.05). Simple frequency or duration of smartphone use did not affect digital literacy, but students who perceived their smart device usage positively and believed that they used smart devices effectively in their studies exhibited higher levels of digital literacy (p<0.05). A positive attitude toward AI is associated with higher levels of digital literacy (p<0.05). Digital literacy awareness and attitudes toward AI influenced digital literacy behavior (p<0.05). Conclusion: These results suggest that the qualified utilization and application of digital devices in dental hygiene education are important. Improving the educational curriculum is necessary; as a result, digital technology can be effectively utilized, and various educational programs should be introduced to enhance digital literacy.
Background: The present study aimed to gather basic data for the development of an educational tuberculosis prevention program for prospective dental hygienists by understanding the level of knowledge, attitudes, and preventive behaviors related to tuberculosis for students in the Department of Dental Hygiene, who need preventive access to tuberculosis infection. Methods: The present study used a self-reported questionnaire on knowledge, attitudes, and preventive behaviors regarding tuberculosis, which was administered to dental hygiene students attending D University located in D city. Results: The average knowledge regarding tuberculosis was 16.17 ± 6.14, out of 30 points. Attitude regarding tuberculosis averaged 48.59 points (± 4.46), out of 60 points, and the degree of preventive behavior was 46.29 points (± 5.0), out of 60 points. Third year students ranked highest for knowledge regarding, attitude toward, and infection prevention behaviors of tuberculosis, compared to those in their first or second year (F = 7.20, p = 0.000). Those who had experienced tuberculosis themselves or with their relatives had higher attitudes toward tuberculosis than those who did not (F = 2.32, p = 0.02). Additionally, the higher the knowledge (β = 0.209, p = 0.004) and attitude (β = 0.425, p = 0.000) about tuberculosis, the higher the level of tuberculosis infection prevention behavior. Conclusion: Based on the results of the present study, it appears to be necessary to provide practical education to ensure that all students in dental hygiene are equipped with knowledge about tuberculosis, and that as a dental hygienist in carrying out dental hygiene management with a changed attitude, the act of preventing tuberculosis infection can be appropriately performed.
