미국 대학생의 건강수준, 건강행동 및 건강관련요인에 관한 변화 추이 분석 (An Analysis on the Change of Health Status, Health Behavior, and Influencing Factors Among American College and University Students)

  • Objectives: Analysis and understanding on the health trend of college and university students are paramount to creating healthy campus communities. We evaluated the change of health status, health behavior, and influencing factors among them in the last ten years. Methods: Using the results of the ACHA-National College Health Assessment from 2000 to 2009, we reanalyzed the trend of health condition, health behavior, and health risk factors in linear regression model. Results: In general health of college and university students, major health problem were allergy problems, back pain, and sinus infection. Academic impacts were stress, sleep difficulties, cold/flu, concern for troubled friend or family member, relationship difficulty, and internet use or computer games. Although regular exercise was decreasing among them, it were more likely to have never smoking, no sexual partner, and eating of fruits/vegetables as time passed (p<0.05, p<0.01). Obesity and sleeping difficulty were increasing, while it were less likely to have feeling very sad, feeling hopelessness, and considering attempting suicide (p<0.05, p<0.01). Conclusion: These data expand the understanding of the health needs and capacities among young adults. For Korean college and university students, it is necessary to standardize the data-collection survey to set the college health and healthy campus.

임상실습 시 간호대학생의 문제해결과정에 미치는 영향요인 (Factors Influencing the Process of Problem Solving in Nursing Students during Clinical Practice)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate factors which influence the process of problem solving in nursing students during clinical practice. Method: Data were collected by questionnaires from 511 nursing students in from April 10 to June 10, 2011. Data were analyzed by Pearson's correlation coefficients and multiple regression procedures. Result: The values regarding self-leadership (mean 3.62), self-directed learning readiness (mean 3.53) and problem solving process (mean 3.37) were higher than the median. There were significant correlations between all the predictive variables and the process of problem solving. The greatest factors influencing the process of problem solving in nursing students were self-leadership and self-directed learning readiness (54.3%). Conclusion: By using the results of this study as a foundation, nursing education curriculum should be comprised of self-leadership and self-directed learning readiness for improvement of nursing students' problem solving process.

디지털교과서를 활용하는 초등학생의 VDT증후군 자각증상과 관련요인 (Factors of Video Display Terminal Syndrome in Elementary School Students Who Use Digital Textbooks)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to determine the factors associated with video display terminal (VDT) syndrome in students who use digital textbooks. Methods: A descriptive survey design was used, and 515 students were selected in 6 out of 20 designated as digital textbook research schools by the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology (MEST). Results: The subjective symptoms of VDT and their degree of severity in participants were similar to those in general students. Approximately 12.5% of the participants were classified as a potential risk group for VDT syndrome. In the potential risk group, the mean of the subjective symptoms of VDT was above normal ($2.53{\pm}0.52$). Related factors were identified using logistic regression analysis and included being female (odds ratio [OR]= 2.57, p=.002), communication time with family (<30 min) (OR=2.70, p=.006),moderate satisfaction with school life (OR=2.57, p=.003),and dissatisfaction with school life (OR=14.92, p<.001). Conclusion: In order to prevent the occurrence of VDT syndrome in students, it is necessary to urgently establish a preventative program and monitor the use of digital textbooks.

고등학생의 비행경험 관련 요인 (The factors Related to Delinquent Behaviors among High School Students)

  • The purpose of this study was to find out the factors which were related to the delinquent behaviors among 2nd years high school in Geoje, Korea. The subjects were 618 high school students. Data were collected by self-reported questionnaires from March to April, 2007. Data were analyzed by SPSS WIN 12.0 program with mean, standard deviation, t-test, ANOVA, Kruskal-Wallis test, Scheffe's test, Pearson's correlation, and stepwise multiple regression. Students' delinquent behaviors differed by experience of smoking, experience of drinking, harmony of family, mother's education, father's smoking mother's smoking, academical class, satisfaction of school-life, friends who smoked, drank alcohol, did drugs, and punished friends. Students' stress and depression had positive correlation with their delinquent behaviors. The result of stepwise multiple regression showed that punished friends, experience of smoking, depression, father's smoking satisfaction of school-life were significant related factors to delinquent behaviors among high school students. It is necessary for home, school, and community to cooperate with each other in preventing high school students from delinquent behaviors.

중학생의 성격특성, 아동기 학대경험 및 스트레스가 자살생각에 미치는 영향 (Influence of Personal Characteristics, Childhood abuse and Stressful Experience on Suicidal Ideation in Middle School Students)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study is to investigate the factors influencing suicidal ideation in middle school students. Methods: Suicidal Ideation Questionnaire (SIQ) results, personal characteristics, child abuse experiences, and stress were obtained from a sample of 657 middle school students from 3 conveniently selected schools in S city. Results: Suicidal ideation of participants was positively correlated with child abuse experience, stress, psychosomatic symptoms, antisocial personality and depressive tendencies, whereas sociability and self-esteem were negatively correlated with suicidal ideation. Significant factors influencing suicidal ideation included an antisocial personality tendency, stress related to the family environment, mental abuse, gender (female), depressive trend, running away from home, sociability, and stress related to academic performance. These factors explained 39.9% of the variance. Conclusion: These results suggest that earlier screening and intervention programs for depression and stress in middle school students will be helpful in reducing suicidal ideation. Further studies are needed in which other strategies that could prevent suicidal ideation in middle school students are examined.

대학생의 자녀관에 영향하는 요인 (Factors Influencing the Value of Having Children among University Students)

  • Purpose: This study undertakes to identify factors influencing the perception university students in Korea hold toward having children. Method: A cross-sectional, descriptive study was conducted on 187 university students (79 males and 108 females) from one university located in a metropolitan area. Participating students completed a packet of self-report questionnaires on values concerning gender roles, marriage, family and children along with their personal demographic details. The resulting data were analyzed using t-tests, one-way ANOVA and Pearson's correlation coefficients as well as descriptive statistics. Stepwise multiple regression was performed to identify factors that most influenced the value of children held among university students. Results: The value of having children was negatively associated with the value of family, but positively associated with the value of marriage. In addition, the value of family had a negative relationship with the value of marriage, but a positive relationship with the value of gender role. Stepwise multiple regression found that the equation consisting of gender and value of marriage explained about 42.0% of the variance of the value of having children. Conclusion: Considering the findings from this study, programs promoting the positive values of marriage are required for university students to have positive values toward having children.

환경호르몬 저감행동 영향요인 (Factors associated with Behaviors that Reduce Exposure to Environmental Hormones among Nursing Students)

  • Purpose: This study aimed to examine the factors associated with behavior that reduces exposure to environmental hormones among nursing students. Methods: Data were collected from 160 nursing students in D and B cities, using self-report questionnaires. Data were analyzed using SPSS 22.0, and the analyses included descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficient test, and stepwise multiple regression. Results: Behavior that reduces exposure to environmental hormones differed significantly in terms of the participants' knowledge about environmental hormones. Behavior that reduces exposure to environmental hormones was negatively correlated with knowledge of environmental hormones, attitude towards pro-environmental behavior, and environmental self-efficacy; these factors were significant predictors of behavior that reduces exposure to environmental hormones, and accounted for 27.0% of the variance. Conclusion: Environmental self-efficacy was identified as the most significant factor affecting behavior that reduces exposure to environmental hormones in nursing students. Therefore, it is necessary to develop programs to improve pro-environmental behavior and environmental self-efficacy in nursing students.

간호대학생의 모유수유 간호활동에 영향을 미치는 요인 (Influencing Factors on Breastfeeding Nursing Activities of Nursing Students)

  • Purpose: This study was conducted to examine the relationships among knowledge, attitudes and nursing activities while breastfeeding among nursing students, and to identify factors influencing nursing activities in breastfeeding. Methods: The research participants were 172 nursing students in the nursing departments of 3 universities located in G city and J provinces. The students had successfully completed their obstetric and pediatric clinical practice courses. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficient and multiple regression. Results: Participants' scores for knowledge, attitudes and nursing activities while breastfeeding were $16.24{\pm}2.73$, $3.74{\pm}0.43$ and $3.49{\pm}0.43$, respectively. Knowledge and attitudes toward breastfeeding had positive correlations with nursing activities while breastfeeding. Factors influencing nursing students' nursing activities while breastfeeding included knowledge, attitudes toward breastfeeding, grade, breastfeeding educational experience, and breastfeeding intentions. These variables explained 18% of the variance in nursing activities while breastfeeding. Conclusion: Based on the results of this study, it would be beneficial to enhance knowledge and attitudes toward breastfeeding by developing education programs for breastfeeding.

외국인근로자와 유학생의 안전의식에 영향을 미치는 요인 (A Study on the Factors Affecting the Safety Awareness of Foreign Workers & International Students)

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze which factors affect safety awareness of foreign workers and international students. In the correlation analysis, individual characteristics related to the safety awareness of foreign workers were nationality, status of stay(visa types), place of work, educational background, and Korean proficiency while international students were relevant with only the types of residence. There were significant differences in the safety awareness of foreign workers in nationality, status of stay(visa types), region of residence, educational background, place of work, and Korean proficiency. However, there was a significant difference only in the types of residence for the international students. In the regression analysis of factors affecting safety awareness, there were significant differences in nationality, status of stay(visa types), place of work, and Korean proficiency in the case of foreign workers. It was analyzed that nationality and status of stay had a negative (-) effect, and the place of work and Korean proficiency had a positive (+) effect. In the case of international students, it was analyzed that only the types of residence had a negative (-) effect on safety awareness.

공과대학생의 쓰기 효능감이 쓰기 메타인지전략과 쓰기 불안에 미치는 영향 (Effects of Writing Self-Efficacy on Writing Metacognitive Strategies and Writing Apprehension in Engineering Students)

  • This research aims to examine the role of writing self-efficacy in engineering students' writing metacognitive strategies and writing apprehension. To achieve this purpose, first, the relationships among writing self-efficacy, writing metacognitive strategies and writing apprehension were investigated. Second, the effects of writing self-efficacy, as perceived by engineering students, on writing metacognitive strategies as well as writing apprehension were explored. A total of 173 engineering students from one university in Korea responded to survey based on a three-variables scale. The findings were that, firstly, positive correlations between writing self-efficacy and writing metacognitive strategies were identified in terms of sub-factors of those two variables. Secondly, negative correlations between writing apprehension and writing self-efficacy, and between writing apprehension and writing metacognitive strategies, were identified in terms of sub-factors of those variables. Thirdly, writing self-efficacy predicted engineering students' writing metacognitive strategies' sub-factors and writing apprehension. The practical implications of these findings are discussed herein, with particular attention on education for promotion of writing self-efficacy and reduction of writing apprehension.
