From a social constructivists' perspective, knowledge is not transmitted by language but it is constructed by social interactions with others. That is, it is viewed in social constructivism that learning is a process in which knowledge is constructed by communicative interactions with more capable others. In this vein, a class might be analyzed and characterized in terms of interactional patterns of teacher-student and student-student in class. For this, a primary math class was selected and observed and it was analyzed by the Flanders category system to investigate the effects of the math teaching based on verbal interactions on the learning of math. The class was taught in a teacher-centered and direct way but in the class math knowledge was taught through univocal communications in the form of question-answer. The results of this study appeared to suggest that verbal interactional patterns should take place frequently in math teaching in the sequence of a teacher's questions$\to$students' extensive responses $\to$ positive feedback for the students' responses by the teacher $\to$ the acceptance of the students' responses $\to$ the teacher's explanation or students' questions. In other words, math might be taught more effectively through the verbal discourse patterns proposed in this study.

Many students have misconceptions about the direction of force of moving objects, but development of teaching strategy for conceptual change is not easy because the direction of force of moving objects can not be observed directly. Therefore, we devloped demonstration using table tennis ball connected with spring in the water, in which a ball always move to the direction of force of moving objects. This study is to investigate students' responses on the demonstrations designed to generate cognitive conflict and to understand more deeply the process of conceptual change. To do this, five questions were administrated to identify students' preconceptions about force and motion, and interview was conducted using demonstrations, and the process of interview was recorded by video camera. About half of students changed their preconceptions by observing the demonstration. However about thirty percentage of students did not change their preconceptions even though they observed demonstration correctly, among these students, some students simply rejected the observation, doubted the process of demonstrations, or reinterpret the result of observation to preserve their own preconceptions.
Purpose: Learning physiological concepts and their practical applications in the appropriate contexts remains a great challenge for undergraduate medical students. Hence the present study aimed to analyze the learning experience of undergraduate medical students during an active learning process of 'preparation of models' depicting physiological concepts. Methods: A total of 13 groups, involving 55 undergraduate medical students with three to five individuals in each group, were involved in model preparation. A total of 13 models were exhibited by the students. The students shared their learning experiences as responses to an open-ended questionnaire. The students' responses were analyzed and generalized comments were generated. Results: Analysis of the results showed that the act of 'model preparation' improved concept understanding, retention of knowledge, analytical skills, and referral habits. Further, the process of 'model preparation' could satisfy all types of sensory modality learners. Conclusion: This novel active method of learning could be highly significant in students' understanding and learning physiology concepts. This approach could be incorporated in the traditional instructor-centered undergraduate medical curriculum as a way to innovate it.

The purpose of this study was to examine the students' responses when students were confronted with anomalous situations in physics. 16 students were selected from one middle school in Busan by examining the pre-test results. To measure students' responses and cognitive conflict levels, written Cognitive Conflict Levels Test(CCLT) developed in a previous study was used together with interviews. Students' responses were tape-recorded. Two kinds of anomalous situations were presented. One was a quantitative demonstration with scale, the other was a qualitative demonstration without scale. In the quantitative group, all students observed anomalous situations correctly. However, in the qualitative group, many of their observations of anomalous situations were incorrect. The students who observed anomalous situations based on preconceptions tended not to abandon their preconceptions, and suggested confirmation experiments which were supposedly to support their preconceptions. The students who recognized results very differently from their preconceptions when confronted with anomalous situations abandoned their preconceptions and suggested alternative experiments. The students who changed their beliefs about preconceptions showed higher cognitive conflict levels than who didn't abandon their preconceptions.

The purposes of this study were to investigate stress responses of senior high school students(examines) preparing for college entrance examination and to identify the relationship between stress responses and self-esteem. The subjects of this study were 261 senior high school students from three high schools located in three different Gu Seoul Korea. Data were collected from 19th to 27th march, 1998. Stress responses were measured by SOS (symptoms of stress) inventory and self- esteem was measured by Rosenberg's self-esteem scale. The data were analyzed with descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA and Pearson's correlation coefficient. The results were as follows : 1. The mean SOS score of subjects was 1.22 and that showed statistically significant according to gender difference (t=-6.00, P<0.0001) and father's occupations (F=3.10, P=0.006). 2. The mean self-esteem score was 2.77 and that showed statistically significant difference according to economic status(F=3.96, P=0.02) and father's occupations (F=2.71, P=0.01). 3. There was significant negative correlation between the mean SOS score and the mean self-esteem score(r=-0.31, P=0.0001). In conclusion, the examines had very high physiological and psychological stress responses and especially female showed higher stress responses than male. For this reason, school nurses are recommended (1)to develop appropriate stress management technique, (2) to provide more intensive care for health of female examines Nursing intervention should be developed for enhancing self-esteem of examines because self-esteem is negatively correlated with SOS.

Many students have misconceptions that upward direction force act on the object which is moving upward after being thrown vertically upward, and no force act on the object at the top of its flight because the object stop or don't' move at the top. To change these misconceptions, in this study, deductive reasoning tasks were used, and student's responses to the tasks were analyzed. In the first part of this study, student's prior conceptions about force and motion and student's deductive reasoning abilities were investigated. And the second part, student's explanations were classified to either the premise-based or idea-based explanation. In the case of the object which is moving upward, 62% of students who had misconception changed their misconceptions to physically correct concept, but, only 24% of students changed their misconceptions for the object at the top. For the first task, more students changed their misconceptions when they made responses based on premises than based on their own idea(p<.05), so, the first task can be helpful for conceptual change. 40% students changed their own misconception by reasoning deductively based on premises provided in the first task, but only 17% students changed by the second task. Student's reasoning abilities investigated in the first part of this study did not affect the conceptual change. Four students for the first task and one student for the second task did not change their misconception even though they made premise-based explanation and had high reasoning abilities.

The purpose of this study was to examine the students' responses and self-understanding in the liberal arts and personality class, one of the compulsory liberal arts subjects at S University. The results of the study are as follows. First, the degree of influence on students' positive change in this class was higher than normal using a five-step Likert scale. In particular, as a result of the film discussion conducted by the researcher, satisfaction was very high. Second, as a result of picture test analysis, changes in coping ability through stress and resource scales were seen in the students, and it was an opportunity for students to understand themselves by looking into their minds. This study presented example of classes that can cultivate students' personality through literature, art, and video, and cultivate their qualities as global citizens, such as responsibility, leadership, cooperation, consideration, communication, and empathy, through discussion.
In order to develop leisure activity programs, the responses of 900 middle and high school students to a questionnaire survey were analyzed. Between May 7 and May 21, 2007. we routinely interviewed adolescent (middle and high school) students from Daegu City. After initial screening, the responses of 874 students were used for statistical and descriptive analysis. The findings were as follows: 1) Respondents indicated the highest preference for 9-leisure activity programs, with physical training rating the highest. 2) Adolescent requirement for leisure activity programs varied according to demographic factors; sex, age, religion, family living standards level, monthly average allowance. 3) Adolescent requirement for leisure activity programs varied according to value disposition patterns; materialism and job achievement-oriented value disposition, human relationship-oriented value disposition, enjoyment-oriented value disposition. 4) Adolescent requirement for leisure activity programs varied according to leisure-constrains factors; social constrains, individual and time constrains, family constrains, economic constrains.
The purpose of this research is to provide basic data by which more suitable hats manufacturing can be possible. The method for this research was to ask male and female college students what their favorite design and size are by the questionnaire. Data were collected from 383 college students in Seoul, Iksan. Statistical tests such as descriptive analysis, Crosstabs, F-test, Duncan test, were used to analyze the data. The conclusion which gotten through this process is that, first of all, their favorite design is Apollo cap, and there is no difference between male and female college students. Then, It also appeared that most of them didn't know their own hat size, but responded that their hats are suitable for their heads, it means that they are contented with their hats. Yet, those positive responses are, in some part, due to the insufficiency of the questions that can point out negative responses.
