  • The purpose of this study is to develop and apply effective teaching strategies and program for the gifted-in-science. The teaching material for the gifted students was focussed on microscope. This study consists of three steps according to the enrichment triad model of Renzulli. Firstly, the gifted students investigate and express themselves for theological backgrounds, for examples, kinds, structure and use in various ways of microscope. It is to provide basic data for the effective ideas and interest which help students have the appropriate microscopic conceptions. In the second step, it contains understanding of a term and function of microscope, making of simple microscope, principle of a statue focusing and size estimation of an outline of subjects by scientific investigation activity. Lastly, it focussed on enlargement of post-learning through investigation of relationship with inter-science and experiments using microscope. Therefore, it was concluded that this study may help teachers reconsider scientific program development for the gifted or enriched students and to be successful in the teaching-learning processes.

  • This paper suggests that the immune algorithm can effectively be used in tuning of a PID controller. The artificial immune network always has a new parallel decentralized processing mechanism for various situations, since antibodies communicate to each other among different species of antibodies/B-cells through the stimulation and suppression chains among antibodies that form a large-scaled network. In addition to that, the structure of the network is not fixed, but varies continuously. That is, the artificial immune network flexibly self-organizes accord Eng to dynamic changes of external environment (meta-dynamics function). However, up to the present time, models based on the conventional crisp approach have been used to describe dynamic model relationship between antibody and antigen. Therefore, there are some problems ...

  • This paper describes a step-by-step method to minimize design iterations in a process of product design change. In the design process, two components are coupled if a change of a component can require the other components change, and design iterations are generated by the coupling. The design iteration is one of main factors that increase design effort. In this study, three matrices are used to solve the design iteration of automatic transmission lever, Requirement-Engineering matrix, Engineering-Components matrix, and DSM(Design Structure Matrix). Firstly, with the DSM, the product architecture and conceptual design process are proposed from product function analysis. Secondly, with the QFD, the Requirement-Engineering matrix and Engineering-Components matrix present the relationship among customer requirements, engineering issues, and product components. Lastly, the results of the QFD analysis are used in the DSM to solve the component interactions and to provide design

  • This paper describes the development tool for applications of automotive electronic control unit based on OSEK/VDX. This development tool has a plug-in structure and is written in Java language, because of being based on Eclipse CDT. And also this development tool has another functionality of expansion, which means a special function block can be easily adopted in this development tool. Currently, this development tool consists of five blocks, which are integrated development environment block, fusing program block, system generation block, debugger block, and cross-compiler toolchain block. They have relationship between each other and work for developing OSEK/VDX-based applications. In this paper, we show the functionality of each block of this development tool and its implementation.

  • Recently, Korea's electric industry has experienced substantial changes in its structure and function including the introduction of competition in the generation sector. Korea is in the early stages of market competition where the market price is determined by generation costs. In the future, the market Price will be determined by generators'bids. Therefore, the generators'profit is determined by market pool price, the prospects of pool price are very important for new capacity investment decision made by generators and IPPS. This study analyzes hourly marginal costs and LOLP considering basic generation mix and characteristics develops the relationship of pool price and Profit by generation-type using the change in reserve margin, and proposes basic direction for profits variation and supply-demand analysis in the electricity market in future.

  • To achieve high precision cutting as well as production capability in the machine tool, it is needed to develop excellent rigidity statically, dynamically and thermally as well. In order to predict the qualitative behavior of a machine tool, simultaneous analysis of mechanics and heat transfer is required. Generally, machine tool designers have solved designing problems based on partial estimation of the specified rigidity. This study clears the inter-relationship between therm, and propose multi-phase optimization of machine tool structure using a genetic algorithm. The multi-phase solution method is consists of a series of mechanical design problem. At this first phase of static design problem, multi-objective optimization for the purpose of minimization of the total weight and static compliance minimization is solved using the Pareto Genetic Algorithm.

  • Monolayers of lipids on a water surface have attracted much interest as models of biological membranes, but also as precursors of multilayer systems promising many technical applications. They exhibit very interesting physico-chemical properties as two-dimensional and interfacial systems. Until now, many potential methodologies have been developed in order to gain a better understanding of the relationship between the structure and function of the monolayers.

  • These studies were designed to examine the effects of ginsenosides on glutamate neurotansmission. In primary cultures of rat cerebellar granule cells, ginsenosides (Rb1, Rc did not Rg1, $500\mug/ml$) increased glutamate release which was measured by HPLC. but HPLC, but Re did not shwo an elevation of glutamate release. However, all of these ginsenosides down-regulated N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA)-induced glutamate release. Rc strongly increased glutamate release and elevated intracellular clcium concentrations $([Ca_{2+}]_i)$ which was measured by ratio fluorometry with FURA-2AM. These results indicate that ginsenosides have a homeostatic effect on glutamate neurotransmission, and there is a structure-function relationship among the ginsenosides tested.

  • Nuclear factor-${\kappa}B$ (NF-${\kappa}B$) plays critical roles in physiological and pathological processes such as immune function, cellular growth, homeostasis, apoptosis, and inflammation. As part of our ongoing efforts to develop novel NF-${\kappa}B$ inhibitory agents, we reported that KL-1156 (6-hydroxy-7-methoxychroman-2-carboxylic acid phenylamide) exhibited potent inhibitory activity of NF-${\kappa}B$. For further structure-activity relationship, a series of 7-aryloxy-chroman-2-carboxylamide derivatives were synthesized to explore their inhibitory activities of NF-${\kappa}B$.
