In higher dicotyledonous plants, the floral organs are arranged in four different whorls, containing sepals, petals, stamens and carpels. petals, stamens and carpels. The specification of floral organ identity is explained by the ABC model (Weigel and Meyerowitz 1994). Expression of an A-function gene specifies sepal formation in whorl 1. the combination of A-and B-function genes specifies the formation of petals in whorl 2, B-and C-function genes spesify stamen formation in whorl 3, and expression of the C-function alone determines the formation of carpels in whorl 4. A-. B-, C-function genes have been isolated from many plant species and most of them belong to the family of MADS-box genes encoding transcription factor. In contrast to the flower of higher dicots, the perianths of genseng plants have three whorls of almost identical petaloid organs. van Tunen et al. (1993) proposed a modified ABC model, exemplified with tulip. In this model, B-function genes are expressed in whorl 1 as well as whorl 2 and 3, theefore the organs of whorl 1 and whorl 2 have the same petaloid structure. They proposed this model with the molphological data of wild type and mutant flowers of tulip, however, there are no molecular data.(중략)
We consider a negative unity feedback control system in which Che PIO, PI, PD or P controller and a transfer function having only poles are in cascade, We define the notion of the structural polynomial which means that there exists a subdomain of the coefficient space in which the polynomial is Hurwitz (left half plane stable) polynomial. We obtain the necessary and sufficient condition of the structure of the transfer function of which the characteristic polynomial is a structural polynomial, In addition, this paper present another necessary and sufficient condition for the existence of a constant gain controller with which the characteristic polynomial is structurally stable, For the structurally stabilizable P controller, it is allowed that the transfer function may not to all pole plants.
Light exerts two primary roles in plant growth and development. Plants acquire all biochemical energy required for growth and propagation solely from light energy via photosynthesis. In addition, light serves as a medium through which plants recognize environmental fluctuations, such as photoperiod and presence of neighboring animals and plants. Plants therefore constantly monitor the direction, intensity, duration, and wavelength of environmental light and integrate these light signals into the intrinsic regulatory programs to achieve an optimized growth in a given light condition. Although light regulates all aspects of plant growth and developmental aspects, the molecular mechanisms and signaling cascades involved have not been well established until recently. However, recent advances in genetic tools and plant transformation techniques greatly facilitated the elucidation of molecular events in plant photomorphogenesis. This mini-review summarizes the gist of recent findings in deetiolation and suppression of shade avoidance response as classic examples of the phytochrome-mediated photomorphogenesis.

The plant pigment proteins phytochromes are a molecular light sensor or switch for photomorphogenesis involving a variety of growth and developmental responses of plants to red and far-red wavelength light. Underscoring the photomorphogenesis mediated by phytochromes is the light signal transduction at molecular and cellular levels. For example, a number of genes activated by the phytochrome-mediated signal transduction cascade have been identified and characterized, especially in Arabidopsis thaliana. The light sensor/switch function of phytochromes are based on photochromism of the covalently linked tetrapyrrole chromophore between the two photoreversible forms, Pr and Pfr. The photochromism of phytochromes involves photoisomerization of the tetrapyrrole chromophore. The "photosensor" Pr-form ("switch off" conformation) of phytochromes strongly absorbs 660 nm red light, whereas the "switch on" Pfr-conformation preferentially absorbs 730 nm far-red light. The latter is generally considered to be responsible for eliciting transduction cascades of the red light signal for various responses of plants to red light including positive or negative expression of light-responsive genes in plant nuclei and chloroplasts. In this paper, we discuss the structure-function of phytochromes in plant growth and development, with a few examples of biotechnological implications.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of writing science diary on science learning motivation, science academic achievement and ecological sensitivity of elementary students. Teaching unit was focused on 'The structure and function of plants' in 6th grade science text book. The subjects of study were 51 students of two classes. One class of 25 students, experimental group, wrote science diaries as homework. While the other class of 26 students, comparative group, performed homeworks with fill-in-the-blank worksheets. The results of this study can be summarized as follows: First, writing science diary had a meaningful effect on improvement of science learning motivation. Second, writing science diary had a meaningful effect on improvement of science academic achievement. Third, writing science diary had a meaningful effect on improvement of ecological sensitivity. And we could find that students had a favorable impression and high satisfaction level about writing science diary from the questionnaire.

Comprehensive development projects were carried out on the Han River from 1982 to 1986 for the purpose of creating a more serviceable places such as a riverside parks and autoroads and so on. However because of the river development, river ecosystem and function were destroyed. And many local autonomous entity follows comprehensive development projects as if it is a model case. To investigate the impact that the river development effects the river ecosystem, two sites which are Anyangcheon and Sooipcheon were surveyed in the right of around plants ecosystem and structure. Two sites are creek of the Hna River. Sooipcheon maintains the sound ecosystem. It has sufficient carrying capacity for the river recreation activity. The reason is that a hydrophyte absorbs nutrients from the stream and the river ecosystem meets the around terrestrial one neturally. Number of hydrophyte increase from upstream going forward to downstream. Number of hydrophyte increase from upstream going forward to downstream. Anyangchoen is seriously polluted stream out of many branch stream of the Han river. In the upstream various woody plants and hydrophyte appeared. But from the river developed area at midstream, naturalized plants dominated such as Bidens tripartita, panicum dichotomiflorum etc. To manage the creek ecologically, hydrophyts were introduced in partly for natural purification after rehavilitate the riverside, and steadily monitoring is demanded.
For human error analysis, the structure and situation of a task should be analyzed in advance. The paper introduces Structured Information Analysis (SIA) as a task analysis method for error analysis, and delineates the result of application on the emergency procedure of Korean Standard Nuclear Plants (KSNPs). From the task analysis about emergency procedure of KSNP, total 72 specific task goals were identified in the level of system function, and 86 generic tasks were classified from the viewpoint of physical sameness of the task description. Human errors are dependent on task types so that the result of task analysis would be used as a basis for the error analysis on the emergency tasks in nuclear power plants.
This paper presents a mathematical model for a class of vertical integration decisions. The problem structure of interest consists of raw material vendors, components suppliers, components processing plants, final product (assembly) plants and external components buyers. Economic feasibility of operating components plants instead of keeping outside suppliers is our major concern. The model also determines assignment of product lines and production volumes to each open plant considering the cost impacts of economies of scale and plant complexity. The problem formulation leads to a concave, mixed integer mathematical program. Given the state of the art of nonlinear programming techniques, it is often not possible to find global optima for reasonably sized such problems. We developed an optimization solution algorithm within the framework of Benders decomposition for the case of a piecewise linear concave cost function. It is shown that our algorithm generates optimal solutions efficiently.
Many therapeutic glycoproteins have been successfully generated in plants. Plants have advantages regarding practical and economic concerns, and safety of protein production over other existing systems. However, plants are not ideal expression systems for the production of biopharmaceutical proteins, due to the fact that they are incapable of the authentic human N-glycosylation process. The majority of therapeutic proteins are glycoproteins which harbor N-glycans, which are often essential for their stability, folding, and biological activity. Thus, several glyco-engineering strategies have emerged for the tailor-making of N-glycosylation in plants, including glycoprotein subcellular targeting, the inhibition of plant specific glycosyltranferases, or the addition of human specific glycosyltransferases. This article focuses on plant N-glycosylation structure, glycosylation variation in plant cell, plant expression system of glycoproteins, and impact of glycosylation on immunological function. Furthermore, plant glyco-engineering techniques currently being developed to overcome the limitations of plant expression systems in the production of therapeutic glycoproteins will be discussed in this review.
The cold shock domain (CSD) is among the most ancient and well conserved nucleic acid binding domains from bacteria to higher animals and plants. The CSD facilitates binding to RNA, ssDNA and dsDNA and most functions attributed to cold shock domain proteins are mediated by this nucleic acid binding activity. In prokaryotes, cold shock domain proteins only contain a single CSD and are termed cold shock proteins (Csps). In animal model systems, various auxiliary domains are present in addition to the CSD and are commonly named Y-box proteins. Similar to animal CSPs, plant CSPs contain auxiliary C-terminal domains in addition to their N-terminal CSD. Cold shock domain proteins have been shown to play important roles in development and stress adaptation in wide variety of organisms. In this review, the structure, function and regulation of plant CSPs are compared and contrasted to the characteristics of bacterial and animal CSPs.
