  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the structural characteristics, mechanical properties, and stress-relaxation behavior of PET filament, which were prepared at various spinning speeds(1650, 3300, 4500, 5000, 5500, and 6000 m/min) and anneal(12$0^{\circ}C$, 20 min & 15$0^{\circ}C$, 40 min). In 4500 m/min of spinning speed the crystallinity, crystallite size, and degree of orientation of PET filament rapidly increased. By increasing spinning speed, the temperature dependence of stress-relaxation sharply decreased. Same results were obtained from heat-treated samples. As a result, activation energy for stress-relaxation increased with the crystallinity and spinning speed.

  • This paper addresses the modified Dynamic Relaxation algorithm, called mdDR by minimizing displacement error between two successive iterations. In the mdDR method, new relationships for fictitious mass and damping are presented. The results obtained from linear and nonlinear structural analysis, either by finite element or finite difference techniques; demonstrate the potential ability of the proposed scheme compared to the conventional DR algorithm. It is shown that the mdDR improves the convergence rate of Dynamic Relaxation method without any additional calculations, so that, the cost and computational time are decreased. Simplicity, high efficiency and automatic operations are the main merits of the proposed technique.

  • The present study is concerned with the application of dynamic relaxation method in the investigation of the large deflection behavior of spatial structures. This numerical algorithm do not require the computation or formulation of any tangent stiffness matrix. The convergence to the solution is achieved by using only vectorial quantities and no stiffness matrix is required in its overall assembled form. In an effort to evaluate the merits of the methods, extensive numerical studies were carried out on a number of selected structural systems. The advantages of using dynamic relaxation methods, in tracing the post-buckling behavior of spatial structures, are demonstrated.

  • Glass transition temperature (T/sub g/) is proportional to the quadrupole splitting(Δ) of Fe(III) obtained from the /sup 57/Fe Mossbauer spectra (T/sub g/-Δ rule (1990)). The values of Δ reflect the distortion of Fe(III) atoms, which occupy the sites of network-forming atoms. Heat treatment of potassium vanadate and calcium gallate glasses at around the individual T/sub g/ causes a structural relaxation, accompanying a linear decrease of T/sub g/ and Δ values. These experimental results prove that T/sub g/ decreases with a decrease in the distortion of VO₄, GaO₄, and FeO₄tetrahedra, as the T/sub g/-Δ rule predicted.

  • This work presents a new strategy to model stress dependent relaxation process in large deformation. The strategy is relied on the fact that in some particular soft materials undergoing large deformation, e.g., elastomers, rubbers and soft tissues, the relaxation time depends strongly on stress levels. To simplify the viscoelastic model, we consider that the relaxation time is the function of previous elastic deviatoric stress state experienced by materials during loading. Using the General Maxwell Model (GMM), we simulate numerically conditions with the constant and the stress dependent relaxation time for uniaxial tension and compression loading. Hence, it can be shown that the proposed model herein not only can represent different relaxation time for different stress level but also maintain the capability of the GMM to model hysteresis phenomena.

  • This paper studies mechanical behavior of the superelastic shape memory alloy (SMA) rods in terms of local deformations and time via tensile loading-unloading cycles for both ends fixed end constraints. Besides the unique stress induced martensitic transformation (SIMT), SMA's time dependent behavior when it is in mixed-phase condition upon loading and unloading, also need careful attention with a view of investigating the local deformation of the structural elements made of the same material. With this perspective, the so-called stress-relaxation tests have been performed to demonstrate and investigate the local strains-total strains relationships with time, particularly, during the forward SIMT. Some remarkable phenomena have been observed pertaining to SIMT, which are absent in traditional materials and those unique phenomena have been explained qualitatively. For example, at the stopped loading conditions the two ends (fixed end and moving end of the tensile testing machine) were in fixed positions. So that there was no axial overall deformation of the specimen but some notable increase in the axial local deformation was shown by the extensometer placed at the middle of the SMA specimen. It should be noted that this peculiar behavior termed as 'inertia driven SIMT' occurs only when the loading was stopped at mixed phase condition. Besides this relaxation test for the SMA specimens, the same is performed for the mild steel (MS) specimens under similar test conditions. The MS specimens, however, show no unusual increase of local strains during the stress relaxation tests.

  • Function of protein is frequently related with tautomeric states of histidine sidechains. Thus, several NMR experiments were developed to determine the tautomeric states of histidines. However, poor sensitivity of these experiments caused by long duration of magnetization transfer periods is unavoidable. Here, we alleviate the sensitivity of HCN experiment for determining the tautomeric states of histidine residues using TROSY principle to suppress transverse relaxation of $^{13}C$ spins during long polarization transfer delays involving $^{13}C-^{15}N$ scalar couplings. In addition, this experiment was used to assign the sidechain resonances of histidines. These assignments can be used to follow the pH-titration of histidine sidechains.

  • The past three decades have witnessed a tremendous growth is the literature on location proble. A mathematical formulation of uncapacitated plant location problem and the k-median as an integer program has proven very fruitful in the derivation of solution methods. Most of the successful algorithms for the problem are based on so-called "strong" linear programming relaxation. This is due to the fact that the strong linear programming relaxation provides a tight lower bound. In this paper we investigate the phenomenon with a structural analysis of the problem.e problem.

  • This study developed an evaluation system to explore the effect of the environmental temperature on the stress redistribution produced by cable stress relaxation of structural members in a steel cable-stayed bridge. The generalized Maxwell model is used to estimate stress relaxation at different temperatures. The environmental temperature is represented using the thermal coefficients and temperature loads. The fmincon optimization function is used to determine the set of stress relaxation parameters at different temperatures for all cables. The ABAQUS software is employed to investigate the stress redistribution of the steel cable-stayed bridge caused by the cable stress relaxation and the environmental temperature. All of these steps are set up as an evaluation system to save time and ensure the accuracy of the study results. The developed evaluation system is then employed to investigate the effect of environmental temperature and cable type on stress redistribution. These studies' findings show that as environmental temperatures increased up to 40 ℃, the redistribution rate increased by up to 34.9% in some girders. The results also show that the cable type with low relaxation rates should be used in high environmental temperature areas to minimize the effect of cable stress relaxation.
