  • The design process of a relational database system consists of requirement analysis, conceptual design using ER diagram, logical design, and physical design. In logical design process, the conceptual schema is transformed to relational schema, and relational schema is normalized. This traditional design process is hard to applied in real database design process, since there is an ambiguity in conceptual design process. In this paper, we suggest a new design process, which provides more structural design steps by removing the conceptual design process. In new approach, we produce the data flow diagram by the structural methodology. From the attributes in the data store of data flow diagram, we construct relational table schema, and we normalize relational schema. Finally we produced table relationship diagram in order to figure out relationships between tables.

  • This paper is the study of methodology for development of preliminary structural design modules for an intergated system for reinforced concrete structures. To develop the modules. it is used that the iteratived and incremental development process of object-orientied methodology and affects. The aspect is a tool to capture characteristics of the objects. The aspects consists of .user, structure, and system. By using aspects, we can find that objects and relationships between the objects consisting of the modules in the phases of process. In this paper, UML(Unified Modeling Language) is used to the notation. It serves as the language for communicating decisions that are not obvious and provides semantics to capture all important stategic and tactical decisions. Therefore such a series of mothods is valuable to development of preliminary structural design modules. Then preliminary structural design modules were programed by using Visusl C++, a windows environmental development tool.

  • Wind turbine blades represent a key component of wind turbines, which extract energy from the wind. In the present study, the structural design of a small wind turbine blade is undertaken using a numerical analysis. The reliability of numerical results is verified through a comparison with the full-scale structural test data of a current blade. To modify the blade design, the blade was divided into several sections and the effect of the thickness of each section was investigated in a numerical analysis. Finally, the modified blade was designed with a lightweight and high-strength.

  • This study suggests a structural design process for the upper control arm installed at a vehicle. Static strength and durability are the most important responses in the structural design of a control arm. This study considers the static strength in the optimization process. The inertia relief method for FE analysis is utilized to simulate the static loading conditions. According to the classification of structural optimization, the structural design of a control arm is included in the category of shape optimization. In this study, the metamodel technique using the kriging method is adopted to obtain the minimum weight satisfying the strength constraint. Then, the final design is suggested by considering the durability criteria. The durability assessment is obtained by the index of fatigue durability called the SWT (Smith-Watson-Topper) index. The final optimum shape has been proposed by trial and error method.

  • A first-order moment method (FORM) reliability analysis is commonly used for structural stability analysis. It requires the values and partial derivatives of the performance to function with respect to the random variables for the design. These calculations can be cumbersome when the performance functions are implicit. A Gaussian process (GP)-based response surface is adopted in this study to approximate the limit state function. By using a trained GP model, a large number of values and partial derivatives of the performance functions can be obtained for conventional reliability analysis with a FORM, thereby reducing the number of stability analysis calculations. This dynamic renewed knowledge source can provide great assistance in improving the predictive capacity of GP during the iterative process, particularly from the view of machine learning. An iterative algorithm is therefore proposed to improve the precision of GP approximation around the design point by constantly adding new design points to the initial training set. Examples are provided to illustrate the GP-based response surface for both structural and non-structural reliability analyses. The results show that the proposed approach is applicable to structural reliability analyses that involve implicit performance functions and structural response evaluations that entail time-consuming finite element analyses.

  • In structural design procedure, The procedure of member selection manages complex data relationship and reflects structural expert's knowledge. It is a difficult problem to construct an effective system with the conventional l programming technique. Knowledge_based s!'stem is a software system capable of supporting the explicit representation of expert's knowledge in member selection process through member data and reasoning mechanisms. This study describes useful methodology for structuring knowledge and representing relation between member data and knowledge. And this study shows the application of this member for member selection in the steel structural design.

  • The purpose of this study is to Propose data models for central database in integrated system for structural design building. In order to efficiently express data related to structure, I analyzed the structure design process and classified data considering design step. 1 used an object-oriented modeling methodology for logical data model and relational modeling for physical data model. Based on this model, we will develop an integration system with several applications for structure design. Each application will communicate through the central database.

  • Structural optimization problems with discrete design variables require more function calculations (or finite element analyses) than those in the continuous design space. In this study, a method to find an optimal solution in the discrete design of the truss structure is presented, reducing the number of function calculations. Because a continuous optimal solution is the Karush-Kuhn-Tucker point that satisfies the optimality condition, it is assumed that the discrete optimal solution is around the continuous optimum. Then, response values such as weight, displacement, and stress are predicted using approximate models-referred to as hybrid metamodels-within specified design ranges. The discrete design method using the hybrid metamodels is used as a post-process of the continuous optimization process. Standard truss design problems of 10-bar, 25-bar, 15-bar, and 52-bar are solved to show the usefulness of this method. The results are compared with those of existing methods.

  • An entity-based integrated design product and process model uses product and process entities to describe design information and design activities, respectively. The concepts and notation for product and process entities in the entity-based integrated design model are similar to the concepts of object-oriented programming languages such as C++ and Smalltalk. This paper uses C++ to program an entity-based integrated design model for building frames structures. The design information and activities involved in the three dimensional building space, the locations of frames, and the grouping of frames represented as entities in the entity-based integrated design model are transformed to C++ codes. Each product or process entity can be basically transformed to an class. The attributes of an entity can be defined as variables and member functions of a class.

  • The purpose of this study is to evaluate the structural safety of the front-end loader for the 90 kW class of agricultural tractors in impact test conditions. Deformation and stress on the loader under the impact test conditions are analyzed using the commercial finite element analysis software ANSYS. In previous research dealing with the initial design of the loader, the maximum stress occurred in the mount and exceeded the yield strength of the material. In this paper, an improved design of the mount of the loader was proposed to reduce the stress concentration in the initial design. The safety of the improved design was verified by performing rigid-body dynamics analysis, transient structural analysis, and static structural analysis under three impact test conditions: a drop and catch test, a corner pull test, a corner push test. It was found that the local stress concentration in the mount that appeared in the initial design was greatly reduced in the improved design, and that the maximum stresses occurred in the three impact test conditions are smaller than the yield strength. It is expected that the design improvement of the mount proposed in this study and the method of analysis may be effectively used to enhance structural safety in the development of new model front loaders in the future.
