  • The potential antioxidant activities of different fractions from methanolic extract of Curcuma longa L. were assayed in vitro. All of the fractions exception of n-hexane and $H_2O$ showed a strong antioxidant activity, especially the ethylacetate (EtOAc) fraction, which showed the highest 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) free radical scavenging activity ($IC_{50}=9.86\;{\mu}g/mL$). The results of 2,2'-azinobis (3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid) diammonium salt (ABTS) radical scavenging activity and ferric reducing antioxidant power (FRAP) assay showed concentration dependency, the EtOAc fraction demonstrating a better result than the other fractions at the same concentration in this studies. Additionally, when the total phenolic contents of fractions were measured, the EtOAc fraction contained the highest level. Meanwhile, correlation analysis indicated a high correlation between the antiradical activity and the total phenolic contents, suggesting that fractions obtained from the methanolic extract of Curcuma longa L. have wide potential for use as sources of antioxidant material.

  • Newly developing SAR (Synthetic Aperture Radar) sensors commonly include high resolution X-band those data are expected to contribute various applications. Recent few studies are presenting potential of X-band SAR data in forest related application. This study tried to investigate the relationship between forest stand parameters and multi-band SAR normalized backscattering. Multi-band SAR data was radiometric corrected to compare signal from different forest stand condition. Then correlation coefficients were estimated between attribute of forest stand map and normalized backscattering coefficients. Although overall correlation coefficients are not high, only X-band shows strong relationship with DBH class than other bands. The signal of C- and L-band is composed of a large number of discrete tree components such as leaves, stems, even background soil. In forest, strength of radar backscattering is affected by complex parameters. Further study might be considered more various forest stand parameters such as canopy density, stand height, volume, and biomass.

  • Solution chemistry, sorbate chemistry, and sorbent chemistry were widely investigated to find important factors that affect PAH sorption on mineral surfaces and to elucidate its microscopic mechanism. The solution chemistry, pH and ionic strength caused measurable change of HOC sorption reaction to minerals. The detectable change of Ka occurred at a pH region crossing the PZC (Point of Zero Charge) of each mineral. The PAH hydrophobicity, one of sorbate chemistry, was observed to have a strong correlation with PAM sorption to mineral. Mineral surface area was not found to be a predominant factor controlling PAH sorption. The mineral type might be more likely to play a crucial role in controlling the PAH sorption behavior. The CEC (Cation Exchange Capacity) of mineral, representing surface charge density, has meaningful correlation with regression slope of sorption coefficients (log $K_{d}$) versus aqueous activity coefficients (log Υ$_{w}$).).).

  • We have analyzed the characteristics of the sea surface winds and wind waves near the Korean marginal seas on the basis of prediction results of the sea surface winds from MM5/KMA model, which is being used for the operation system at the Korea Meteorological observation buoy data to verify the model results during Typhoon events. The correlation coefficients between the models and observation data reach up to about 95%, supporting that these models satisfactorily simulate the sea surface winds and wave heights even at the coastal regions. Based on these verification results, we have carried out numerical experiments about the wave modulation. When there exist an opposite strong current for the propagation direction of the waves or wind direction, wave height and length gets higher and shorter, and vice versa. It is proved that these modulations of wave parameters are well generated when wind speed is relatively week.

  • In order to analyze the effect of meteorological elements on ozone concentration, we carried out cross-correlation of the elements with ozone concentraton, and time series analysis on them. As a result, it revealed that temperature, wind speed and humidity are not independent variables with ozone concentrations, and also, solar radiation and mixing height are the major elements that affect them. We developed models for ozone with solar radiation and mixing height as dependent variables to verify the effect of major meteorological elements. The predicted ozone concentration has strong correlation coefficients, So, We could conclude that we can predict ozone concentreation only with solar raidation and mixing height as dependents.

  • In this paper we suggest a new two-wheelers detection algorithm using local cell features. The first, we propose new feature vector matrix extraction algorithm using the correlation two cells based on local cell histogram and shifting from the result of histogram of oriented gradients(HOG). The second, we applied new weighting values which are calculated by the modified histogram intersection showing the similarity of two cells. This paper applied the Adaboost algorithm to make a strong classification from weak classification. In this experiment, we can get the result that the detection rate of the proposed method is higher than that of the traditional method.

  • In this study, abiotic transformation of 1-naphthol via oxidative-coupling reaction was evaluated using Mn oxide which is ubiquitous in natural soils. The transformation of 1-naphthol catalyzed by synthetic birnessite $({\delta}-MnO_2)$ followed pseudo-lst order reaction, and the rate constants was in the range of $0.053{\sim}0.13\;min^{-1}$ with birnessite loadings of $12.5{\sim}50\;mg/20\;mL$. Since the oxidation of 1-naphthol was occurred on the reactive surface of the oxide particles, the rate constants with various birnessite loadings were correlated with birnessite surface area concentration. The correlation showed a strong linearity, which confirms the supposition of the surface reaction. From the correlation, therefore, the surface area normalized rate constant, $k_{surf}$, was determined to be 0.032 $L/m^2\;min$.

  • Advertising is the most powerful marketing communication tool. Fashion magazines are a popular media for fashion advertising because of their multi-color visual printing. In this study, the interest in and attitude toward fashion advertising were investigated with high school girls in Seoul, along with their interrelation with buying experience and post-purchase satisfaction. The consciousness of the endorser and the fashion of celebrities both increased with rising interest in fashion advertisement. However, the brand orientation showed no relationship with the interest in fashion advertisement. The interest in fashion advertisement was useful to explain buying experience with limited variance. The correlation between brand orientation and buying experience increased with rising interest in fashion advertisement, indicating that those with little interest in fashion advertisement showed strong dependence on brand loyalty. Those with more interest in fashion advertisement counted distinctive aspects of fashion advertisement more seriously. Affective aspects of fashion advertisement showed a correlation with buying experience and post-purchase satisfaction.

  • Water is an essential ingredient to brew coffee. Mineral contents in the water can affect both water quality and taste quality of coffee. The effects of minerals in the water on sensory characteristics of coffee were investigated in different water samples (A: Arisu, B: Claris, C: Spring water, D: Samdasoo, E: Evian, Distilled water as control). Based on the results of quantitative descriptive analysis (QDA), there were statistically significant (p<0.01) in flavor, acidity, bitterness, sweetness, body and aftertaste according to different water samples used to brew coffee. The canonical correlation analysis of minerals (Ca, Mg, Na, K) and taste (acidity, bitterness, sweetness) indicated that there were highly correlated in the relationship between bitterness and Mg content. A strong negative relationship was shown between bitterness and acidity, sweetness. A result of preference test using hedonic scale showed an inverse linear relationship between taste quality and total mineral contents.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate speech rate and fluency in stuttering adults. It was suggested that a measurement guideline of speech rate and fluency for collecting clinically meaningful data be used. Subjects included 10 adults who stutter (mean age=25;8). Syllables were used as the unit of measurement for analyzing the duration of speech. The mean rate was 241 SPM (syllables per minute) for reading, and 196 SPM for spontaneous speaking. Fluency was also measured in both cases. The correlation between rate of speech and fluency was high (r=0.92). A strong positive correlation was found between different investigators in measuring speech rates and fluencies.
