  • I want to focus on developments in the areas of general relativity and gauge theory. The topics to be considered are the singularity theorms of Hawking and Penrose, the positivity of mass, instantons on the four-dimensional sphere, and the string picture of quantum gravity. I should mention that I will not have time do discuss either classical mechanics or symplectic structures. This is especially unfortunate, because one of the roots of differential geometry is planted firmly in mechanics, Cf. [GS]. The French geometer Elie Cartan first formulated his invariant approach to geometry in a series of papers on affine connections and general relativity, Cf. [C]. Cartan was trying to recast the Newtonian theory of gravity in the same framework as Einstein's theory. From the historical perspective it is significant that Cartan found relativity a convenient framework for his ideas. As about the same time Hermann Weyl in troduced the idea of gauge theory into geometry for purposes much different than those for which it would ultimately prove successful, Cf. [W]. Weyl wanted to unify gravity with electromagnetism and though that a conformal structure would fulfill thel task but Einstein rebutted this approach.

  • The purpose of this study is to propose a topological design principles and to analyze the space of digital architecture applying topological invariant expressive characteristics. As this study is based on topology as a science of true world's pattern, we intented to explain the concepts and provide some methods of low-level and hyperspace topological invariant Properties. Four major aspects are discussed. Those are connection theory, boundary concept, homotopy group, knot Pattern theory as topological invariant properties. Then we intented to make understand topological characteristics of the Algorithms, luring machine, cellular automata, string theory, membrane, DNA and supramolecular chemistry. In fine, the topological invariant properties of the digital architecture as genetic algorithms based on self-organization and heterogeneous networks of interacting actors can be analyzed and used as a critical tool. Therefore topology can be provided endless possibilities for architecture, designers and scientists intended in expressing the more complex and organic patterns of nature as life.

  • Stage costumes perform not only the instrumental but also the expressive functions. The major goal of this study is to develop the functional and aesthetic costume designs for musical players considering the characteristics of instruments, players' postures. This study will increase the related market size and the players' choices and move aurally and visually more. The scope of this study is restricted to the musical costumes for female adult soloists playing the wind and string instruments. This study is composed of theory research, empirical research and manufacturing a real costume.

  • At present, the time of easy oil and gas is over. Now, the largest part of fossil fuels is concentrated in the deepest levels of tectonic structures and in the sea shelves. One of the most cumbersome operations of their extraction is the bore-hole drilling. In connection with austere tectonic and climate conditions, their drivage every so often is associated with great and diversified technological difficulties causing emergencies on frequent occasions. As a rule, they are linked with drill string accidents. A key role in prediction of these situations should play methods of theoretical modelling. For this reason, there is a growing need for development and implementation of new numerical methods for computer simulation of critical and post-critical behavior of drill strings (DSs). In this paper, the processes of non-linear deforming of a DS in cylindrical cavity of a deep bore-hole are considered. On the basis of the theory of curvilinear flexible rods, non-linear constitutive differential equations are deduced. The effects of the longitudinal non-uniform preloading, action of torque and interaction between the DS and the bore-hole surface are taken into account. Owing to the use of curvilinear coordinates in the constraining cylindrical surface and a specially chosen concomitant reference frame, it became possible to separate the desired variables and to reduce the total order of the equation system. To solve it, the method of continuation the solution by parameter and the transfer matrix technique are applied. As a result of the completed numerical analysis, the critical states of the DS loading in the cylindrical channels of inclined bore-holes are found. It is shown that the modes of the post-critical deforming of the DS are associated with its irregular spiral curving prevailing in the zone of bottom-hole-assembly. The possibility of invariant state generation during post-critical deforming is established, condition of its bifurcation is formulated. It is shown that infinite variety of loads can correspond to one geometrical configuration of the DS. They differ each from other by contact force functions.

  • The suffix array is a data structure storing all suffixes of a string in lexicographical order. It is widely used in string problems instead of the suffix tree, which uses a large amount of memory space. Many researches have shown that not only the suffix array can be built in O(n), but also it can be constructed with a small time and space usage for real-world inputs. In this paper, we analyze a practical suffix sorting algorithm due to Maniscalco and Puglisi [1], and we propose an efficient algorithm which improves Maniscalco-Puglisi's running time.

  • Based on attachment theory and family system theory, this study was attempted to construct a path model in which showed how adult son-mother relationship and mother's marital relationship influence son's marital satifaction. Predictor variables examined were the attachment between mother and married son, mother's dependency, mother's marital relationship, son's filial obligation, son's marriage years. Data were analyzed from survey and structured interviews conducted with 111 families including married son, his wife and his mother. Results indicated that the attachment between mother and married son influenced directly to son's marital satisfaction while the other variables had an indirect influence via the attachment between mother and son. The importance of the relationship between mother and married son to son's marital satisfaction received string support.

  • Computer Science Unplugged is a collection of free learning activities that teach Computer Science through engaging games and puzzles that use cards, string, crayons and lots of running around. In spite of the success of unplugged activities, the unplugged resources for experiencing the concepts of data structures is lacked. In this study, we design, implement and survey the 3 hour lessons of the core concepts of graph theory and the shortest path algorithm for the primary students using computer science unplugged activities. Our survey results showed that our lesson plan is adequate for primary school students and will have a positive effects for primary school students.

  • In this study, vibrational tendon tension measurement methods are applied to estimate tension of external tendons used in segmental post-tensioned bridges. The acceleration of various length type of tendons is measured and natural frequencies are obtained using FFT (Fast Fourier Transform). The obtained natural frequencies are within 1% error regardless of sensor direction and location. On the basis of natural frequency of tendon, estimation of the tendon tension is performed by using many types of solutions such as string theory equation, multi mode estimation, practical formula estimation and stiff string with clamped-clamped boundary conditions. The results are compared with each other and have shown that the flexural stiffness is not negligible in tendons of this type causing the vibration mode to be inharmonically related. The results have shown that the method using stiff string equation with clamped-clamped boundary conditions is more accurate than the other methods. Application example of in-service bridges has shown that force distribution effects from friction at deviation blocks can be effectively detected.

  • The cable tension plays an important role in the construction, assessment and long-term health monitoring of cable structures. The cable vibration equation is nonlinear if cable sag and bending stiffness are included. The engineering implementation of a vibration-based cable tension evaluation is mostly carried out by the simple taut string theory. However, the simple theory may cause unacceptable errors in many applications since the cable sag and bending stiffness are ignored. From the practical point of view, it is necessary to have empirical formulas if they are simple and yet accurate. Based on the solutions by means of energy method and fitting the exact solutions of cable vibration equations where the cable sag and bending stiffness are respectively taken into account, the empirical formulas are proposed in the paper to estimate cable tension based on the cable fundamental frequency only. The applicability of the proposed formulas is verified by comparing the results with those reported in the literatures and with the experimental results carried out on the stay cables in the laboratory. The proposed formulas are straightforward and they are convenient for practical engineers to fast estimate the cable tension by the cable fundamental frequency.
