The relaxation of the intrinsic stresses in the diamond films fabricated by the hot filament CVD was studied, and it was confirmed that the tensile intrinsic stresses in the films could be controlled without any degradation in the quality of the diamond films. The tensile intrinsic stresses in the films decreased from 2.97 to 1.42 GPa when the substrate thickness increased from 1 to 10mm. This result showed that the residual stress was affected by the substrate thickness as well as by the interaction between grains. Applying of +50 V between the W filament and the Si substrate during deposition, the tensile intrinsic stress in the film deposited at 0 V was decreased from 2.40 GPa to 0.71 GPa. Such large decrease in the tensile intrinsic stress was due to $\beta$-SiC which acted as a buffer layer for the stress relaxation. However, the application of the large voltage above +200V resulted in the change of quality of the diamond film, and nearly had no effect on relaxation in the tensile intrinsic stress.
Most of ferrous b.c.c weld materials may experience martensitic transformation during rapid cooling after welding. It is well known that volume expansion due to the phase transformation could influence on the relaxation of welding residual stress. To apply this effect practically, it is a prerequisite to establish a numerical model which is able to estimate the effect of phase transformation on residual stress relaxation quantitatively. For this purpose, the analysis is carried out in two regions. i.e., heating and cooling, because the variation of material properties following a phase transformation in cooling is different in comparison with the case in heating, even at the same temperature. The variation of material properties following phase transformation is considered by the adjustment of specific heat and thermal expansion coefficient, and the distribution of residual stress in analysis is compared with that of experiment by previous study. consequently, in this study, simplified numerical procedures considering phase transformation, which based on a commercial finite element package was established through comparing with the experimental data of residual stress distribution by other researcher. To consider the phase transformation effect on residual stress relaxation, the transition of mechanical and thermal property such as thermal expansion coefficient and specific heat capacity was found by try and error method in this analysis.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of exercise therapy and relaxation therapy on catecholamine and heart rate in people in white color jobs and to determine this information the effectiveness of applied exercise therapy and relaxation therapy as a nursing intervention method for stress patients. The subjects were divided into an exercise therapy group, a relaxation therapy group, and control group and the research design was a nonequivalent control group pretest-post test design(exercise therapy : n= 12, relaxation therapy : n=12, control group, the group without any treatment in exercise on relaxation therapy : n=12), The subjects in the exercise therapy group were given a particular intensity for each kp during 30min, bicycle ergometer which is using an LX PE training system before & after 4weeks of training. The exercise therapy that was used was Astrard load method which tested absolute exercise load of heart rate before & after four weeks, and resting heart rate was tested for exercise and relaxation therapy before, after four weeks, and at eight weeks. The results of each kp & absolute exercise load were calculated with the target rate formula(maximal heart rate-rest heart rate) x exercise intensity(%) + rest heart rate so the subjects could continue 60-70% exercise intensity for exercise therapy over eight weeks. The relaxation therapy subjects were trained using a modified Jacobson's relaxation technique for eight weeks. The exercise and relaxation therapy were trained at the following intensity for eight weeks(3times/week, 30min/day) to see changes in catecholamine & heart rates. After eight weeks, statistical analysis of exercise & relaxation therapy were carried out Two-way ANOVA and multiple range test(SNK : Student Newman Keul) were used. The results are as follows : 1. The change of epinephrine & norepinephrine in the exercise therapy, relaxation therapy, and control group was statistically significant at the .05 level after four weeks & eight weeks. Also, exercise therapy was statistically significant at .05 level over that of the control group after 4weeks. 2. The change of heart rate in relaxation therapy was statistically significant at the .05 level, and was statistically significant at the .05 level over that of the exercise therapy and control group. In conclusion, it is obvious that exercise therapy and relaxation therapy should be one of the most effective stress treatment and desirable nursing interventions methods for job stress in people in white color jobs.
Purpose: This study is to identify the effects of muscle relaxation therapy on mood state and job stress of clinical nurses, finally to purpose the bases of nursing intervention to increased of work efficiency and job satisfaction. Method: The research design was a nonequivalent control group pretest-posttest design. The subjects were 50 clinical nurses (23 for experimental group), who were working for 1-5 years in medical and surgical ward from the 2 C-University medical center in Seoul. This study was conducted from May 12 to July 25, 2000. The muscle relaxation therapy was performed 5 weeks to experimental group. The experimental group participated in the muscle relaxation training sessions for 20minutes twice a week during five weeks. The level of job stress was measured by nurses occupational stress scale. The level of Psychological response was measured by Profile of mood state. The data was analyzed using descriptive statistics, $X^2$-test, t-test, paired t-test. Result: The results of this study were as follows: The experimental group who received the muscle relaxation therapy showed more reduction of job stress level (t=1.35, p=0.038) and profile of mood state level (t=2.27, p=0.027) after therapy than those in control group. Conclusion: This study reveals that the muscle relaxation therapy is effective in reduction of nurse's job stress and promotion of mood state. So the researcher thinks that it is useful in reduction of job stress and increased of job satisfaction in hospital.
In the case where the bottom of railroad is penetrated by non-excavation construction method, the design is performed based on the assumption that there is no displacement and no change of stress However, measurement data showed that reduction of earth pressure and relaxation of stress take place by the displacement. In this study, we investigated the earth pressure on the structure under the railroad constructed by a non-excavation method and the stress relaxation region. The design based on earth pressure is non-economical because it is an over design. Relaxation of stress may lead to road base settlement and rail irregularly due to the reduced railroad supporting stiffness, to ballast crack in the case of concrete roadbed. The result showed that it is reasonable to set the stress on the structures as active earth pressure not as earth pressure at rest. Additionally, the study on the stress relaxation region identified the regions that should be supported in future construction by a non-excavation method.
Numerous experimental investigations on metallic materials and solid polymers have shown that relaxation behavior is nonlinearly dependent on prior strain rate. The stress drops in a constant time interval nonlinearly increase with an increase of prior strain rate. And the relaxed stress associated with the fastest prior strain rate has the smallest stress magnitude at the end of relaxation periods. This paper deals with the performance of three classes of unified constitutive models in predicting the characteristic behaviors of relaxation. The three classes of models are categorized by a rate sensitivity of kinematic hardening rule. The first class uses rate-independent kinematic hardening rule that includes the competing effect of strain hardening and dynamic recovery. In the second class, a stress rate term is incorporated into the rate-independent kinematic hardening rule. The final one uses a rate-dependent format of kinematic hardening rule.
Viscoelastic properties of PET filament fibers on stress relaxation were investigated in the solvents of $H_2$O, 0.05% NaOH and 50% DMF using an Instron (UTM4-100 Tensilon) with solvent chamber. The theoretical stress relaxation equation derived by applying the Ree-Eyring's hyperbolic sine law to dashpot of three element non-Newtonian model was applied to the experimental stress relaxation curves, and the model parameters $G_1,G_2$, ${\alpha}$ and ${\beta}$ were obtained. By analyzing temperature dependency of the relaxation time, the values of activation entropy, activation enthalpy and activation free energy for flow in PET filament fiber were evaluated, the activation free energy being about 25.7 kcal/mol. The self diffusion coefficient and hole distance were obtained from parameters ${\alpha}$, ${\beta}$ and crystallite size in order to study the self diffusion and the orientation of crystallites in amorphous region and the effect of solvent.
Residual stress is a dominant obstacle to efficient production and safe usage of products by reducing the mechanical strength and failure properties. Especially, it causes interfacial failure and substrate deflection in the case of thin film. So, the exact evaluation and optimum control of thin film residual stress is indispensable. However, hole drilling or X-ray diffraction techniques have some limits in application to thin film. And, curvature technique for thin film materials cannot give the information about local stress variation. Therefore, we applied the nanoindentation technique in evaluating the thin film residual stress. In this study, we modeled the change of indentation loading curve for residually stressed and stress-free thin films during stress relaxation. The value of residual stress was directly related to the indentation depth change by relaxation. The residual stress from nanoindentation analysis was consistent with the result from curvature technique.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of exercise therapy and relaxation therapy on the level of ACTH and cortisol in workers and to determine, from this information, the effectiveness of applied exercise therapy and relaxation therapy as a nursing intervention method for workers experiencing stress. Method: The subjects were divided into an exercise therapy group. a relaxation therapy group, and a control group. The research design was a nonequivalent control group pretest-posttest design (exercise therapy : n=12. relaxation therapy: n=12, control group, the group without exercise or relaxation therapy: n= 12). The subjects in the exercise therapy group were given a particular intensity for each kp over 30 min, bicycle ergometer which uses the LX PE training system before and after four weeks of training. The subjects did 60-70% exercise intensity exercise therapy for eight weeks The relaxation therapy subjects were trained using a modified Jacobson's relaxation technique for eight weeks. The exercise and relaxation therapy groups were trained at the following intensity for eight weeks (3 times/week, 30 min/day). Changes in the levels of ACTH and cortisol were identified. Two-way ANOVA and multiple range test (SNK: Student Newman Keul) were used to examine the effects of exercise therapy and relaxation therapy at four and eight weeks. Result: 1. Changes in the level of ACTH in the relaxation therapy group were statistically significant at .05 level, and were better than that of the exercise therapy group after eight weeks. But there was no significant difference between the exercise therapy group and the control group. 2. Change in the level of cortisol in the relaxation therapy group were statistically significant at .05 level as compared to the exercise therapy group and the control group after four weeks, but not after eight weeks. Also, the relaxation therapy was statistically significant at .05 level after four weeks compared to before treatment, but there was a tendency toward increased cortisol after eight weeks. Conclusion: Relaxation therapy was found to be more effective in stress treatment than exercise therapy and as such is a desirable nursing intervention method for stress hormone reduction in workers.
This paper studies mechanical behavior of the superelastic shape memory alloy (SMA) rods in terms of local deformations and time via tensile loading-unloading cycles for both ends fixed end constraints. Besides the unique stress induced martensitic transformation (SIMT), SMA's time dependent behavior when it is in mixed-phase condition upon loading and unloading, also need careful attention with a view of investigating the local deformation of the structural elements made of the same material. With this perspective, the so-called stress-relaxation tests have been performed to demonstrate and investigate the local strains-total strains relationships with time, particularly, during the forward SIMT. Some remarkable phenomena have been observed pertaining to SIMT, which are absent in traditional materials and those unique phenomena have been explained qualitatively. For example, at the stopped loading conditions the two ends (fixed end and moving end of the tensile testing machine) were in fixed positions. So that there was no axial overall deformation of the specimen but some notable increase in the axial local deformation was shown by the extensometer placed at the middle of the SMA specimen. It should be noted that this peculiar behavior termed as 'inertia driven SIMT' occurs only when the loading was stopped at mixed phase condition. Besides this relaxation test for the SMA specimens, the same is performed for the mild steel (MS) specimens under similar test conditions. The MS specimens, however, show no unusual increase of local strains during the stress relaxation tests.
