  • The analysis of the springback is done based on the stress of sheet after forming. Therfore, it is important to get the accurate stress from forming analysis. In this study, some parameters that influence on the accuracy of the springback estimation are investigated. Discretization of sheet and tools, choice of penalty constant and damping in contact treatment, and tool speed scaling are chosen as parameters. As a numerical example, the 2D draw bending benchmark problem of the NUMISHEET'93 is used. Also, the springback results of the s-rail benchmark problem of the NUMISHEET'96 are presented.

  • We consider two components parallel system in which the lifetimes have the bivariate Pareto model with bivariate random censored data. We assume that bivariate Pareto model is affected by common stress which is independent of the lifetimes of the components. We obtain estimators for the system reliability based on likelihood function and relative frequency. Also we construct approximated confidence intervals for the reliability based on maximum likelihood estimator and relative frequency estimator, respectively. Finally we present a numerical study.

  • This paper estimates the time-dependent crack-tip stress fields under elastic-plastic-creep conditions. We perform Finite-Element (FE) transient creep analyses for a Single-Edge-notched-Bend (SEB) specimen. We investigate the effect of the initial plasticity on the transient creep by systematically varying the magnitude of the initial step-load. We consider both the same stress exponent and different stress exponent in the power-law creep and plasticity to determine the elastic-plastic-creep behaviour. To estimation of the crack-tip stress fields, we compare FE analysis results with those obtained numerically formulas. In addition, we propose a new equation to predict the crack-tip stress fields when the creep exponent is different from the plastic exponent.

  • Most of mechanical structures are combined of substructures such as beam and/or plates. There are few system with unibody structures but are not a few systems with united body structures. Generally the dynamic analysis of whole structures is perform ed under alternating load. However, the analysis of each joint area is more important than others for zero severity. This paper presents the results of analysis of concentration stress in bolt jointed structure with variable preload. At frist, a static vibration test was performed to find out a nominal stress of bolt joint ed plates from the relationship between natural frequency and nominal stress. Then a concentration stress was computed at contact point between bolt and plate in the structure. It is believed that the proposed method has promising implications for safer design with fatigue quality index of stress concentration factor and has merit for cost down and saving time at the beginning of vehicle development.

  • In nuclear power plants, ferritic low alloy steel components were connected with austenitic stainless steel piping system through alloy 82/182 butt weld. There have been incidents recently where cracking has been observed in the dissimilar metal weld. Alloy 82/182 is susceptible to primary water stress corrosion cracking. Weld-induced residual stress is main factor for crack growth. Therefore exact estimation of residual stress is important for reliable operating. This paper presents residual stress computation performed by 6" safety & relief nozzle. Based on 2 dimensional and 3 dimensional finite element analyses, effect of welding variables on residual stress variation is estimated for sensitivity analysis.

  • Apparent mechanical properties in structural components can be different from the initially designed values due to the formation of the residual stress in metal forming and welding. Therefore, the evaluation of residual stress has great importance in the reliability diagnosis of structural components. A nondestructive instrumented indentation technique has been proposed to evaluate various strength concerning mechanical properties from the analysis of load-depth curve. In this study, quantitative residual stress estimation on API X65 welded joints for natural gas pipeline was performed by analyzing the variation of indentation loading curve by residual stress through a new proposed theoretical model. The residual stress from the indentation method was compared with that from the saw-cutting method.

  • Accelerated degradation tests (ADTs) measuring failure-related degradation characteristic at the accelerated condition are widely used to assess the reliability of highly reliable products. Often, however, little degradation could be observed even in single-stress ADTs due to the high reliability of test unit, and as a result poor estimate of the reliability may be obtained. ADTs with multiple stress variables can be employed to overcome such difficulties. In this paper, optimal ADT plans with two stress variables are developed assuming that the degradation characteristic follows Weibull distribution by determining the stress levels, the proportion of test units allocated to each stress level such that the asymptotic variance of the maximum likelihood estimator of the q-th quantile of the lifetime distribution at the use condition is minimized.

  • The welding residual stress should be considered in fatigue stress analysis because it develope during the process of the electric resistance spot welding and it causes bad affect on the fatigue crack initiation and growth at nugget edge of spot welded points. Therefore the accurate estimation of residual stress is crucial. In this study, nonlinear finite element analysis on welding residual stress generated during the process of the spot welding was conducted, and their results were compared with the experimental data measured by X-ray diffraction method. From the results, it was found that welding residual stress existed as tension in the nugget center and as compression around the nugget edge.
