Change of magnetic properties in CoCrPt/Ti perpendicular media with varying CoCrPt films thickness has been studied. As CoCrPt films thickness increase, the Ms(magnetization saturation) drastically increases at thinner thickness and gradually increases with further increase in thickness from 25nm. This Ms behaviour is associated with primarily the formation of "amorphous-like" reacted layer by intermixing of CoCrPt and Ti at CoCrPt/Ti interface and secondarily change of Cr segregation mode with varying the CoCrPt films thickness. Magnetic domain structure distinctively changes with increasing CoCrPt magnetic layer(ML) thickness. Also the strength of exchange coupling measured from the slope in demagnetizing region in M-H loop changes with ML thickness. Details of the above magnetic properties will be discussed. The expansion of lattice parameters a and c at thinner thickness suggests that Cr segregation mode may be connected with the residual stress of the films. Finally, negative nucleation field(Hn) behaviour with the exchange slope will be reported.
This study shows functionally graded material structural topology optimization under buckling constraints. The SIMP (Solid Isotropic Material with Penalization) material model is used and a method of moving asymptotes is also employed to update topology design variables. In this study, the quadrilateral element is applied to compute buckling load factors. Instead of artificial density properties, functionally graded materials are newly assigned to distribute optimal topology materials depending on the buckling load factors in a given design domain. Buckling load factor formulations are derived and confirmed by the resistance of functionally graded material properties. However, buckling constraints for functionally graded material topology optimization have not been dealt with in single material. Therefore, this study aims to find the minimum compliance topology optimization and the buckling load factor in designing the structures under buckling constraints and generate the functionally graded material distribution with asymmetric stiffness properties that minimize the compliance. Numerical examples verify the superiority and reliability of the present method.

Stress is one of the major causes threatening the mental and physical health of human today. In this paper, we analyzed the heart rate variability(HRV), galvanic skin response(GSR), and skin temperature data measured from the university subjects before and after the class to examine the influence on bio-signal in stress environment. Thirty subjects from university students (aged between 21 and 27 years; mean=22.31, STD=1.45) took part in this study. From the experiment results, RMSSD(p=0.033), LF peak(p=0.003), VLF(p=0.045) were statistically significant from those of the control group(p<0.05) of HRV both in time and frequency domain. We observed that mean skin conductivity after the class(mean=5.993(uS), SD=3.406) is higher than that before the class(mean=3.039(uS), SD=2.628) by 97.2% on average and the skin temperature after the class($34.835{\pm}0.305$) is slightly higher than that before the class($34.471{\pm}0.281$) by 1.055% on average. The results in this research could be used to examine the autonomic response in clinical stress related research.
The distributions of heat and momentum fluxes on the surface over the oceans around the Korean Peninsula are obtained based on the surface-layer flux model of Kim and Kang (1994), and their seasonal variations are examined in the present study. the input data of the model is the oceanatmosphere data with a grid interval of 2$^{\circ}$ in longitude and latitude. The atmosphere data, which are the pressure, temperature, and specific humidity on the 1000 mb level for 3 year period of 1985∼1987, are obtained from the European center for Medium Range Forecast. The sea surface temperature (SST) is obtained from National Meteorological Center (NMC). The solar insolation and longwave radiation on the ocean surface are obtained, respectively, from the NASA satellite data and based on an emprical formula. It is shown from the net heat flux that the oceans near Korea lose heat to the atmosphere in January and October with the rates of 200∼ 400 Wm/SUP -2/ and 100 Wm/SUP -2/, respectively. But the oceans are heated by the atmosphere in April and July with about the same rate of 100 Wm/SUP -2/. The annualmean net heat flux is negative over the entire domain except the northern part of the Yellow Sea. The largest annual-mean cooling rate of about 120 Wm/SUP -2/ is appeared off the southwest of Japan. In the East Sea, the annual-mean cooling rate is 60∼90 Wm/SUP -2/ in the southern and northern parts and about 30 Wm/SUP -2/ in the middle part. The magnitude of wind stress in january is 3∼ 5 times bigger than those of the other months. As a result, the spatial pattern of annual-mean wind stress is similar to that of January. It is also shown that the annual-mean wind stress curl is negative. in the East China Sea and the South Sea,but it is positive in the northern part of the Yellow Sea.In the East sea,the stress curl is positive in the southeast and northern parts and negative in the northwestern part.

Conventional power spectrum methods based on FFT, AR method are not appropriate for analyzing biomedical signals whose spectral characteristics change rapidly. On the other hand, time-frequency analysis has more desirable characteristics of a time-varying spectrum. In this study, we investigated the spectral components of heart rate variability(HRV) in time-frequency domain using time frequency analysis methods. In the various time-frequency kernels functions, we studied the suitable kernels for the analysis of HRV using synthetic HRV signals. First, we evaluated the time/frequency resolution and cross term reduction of various kernel functions. Then, from the instantaneous frequency, obtained from time-frequency distribution, the method extracting frequency components of HRV was proposed. Subjects were 17 healthy young men. A coin-stacking task was used to induce mental stress. For each subjects, the experiment time was 3 minutes. Electrocardiogram, measured during the experiment, was analyzed after converted to HRV signal. In the results, emotional stress of subjects produced an increase in sympathetic activity. Sympathetic activation was responsible for the significant increase in the LF/HF ratio. Subjects were divided into two groups with task ability. Subjects who have higher mental stress have lack of task ability.
The generalized Hoek-Brown (GHB) failure criterion developed by Hoek et al. (2002) is a nonlinear function which defines a stress condition at failure of rock mass. The relevant strength parameter values are systematically determined using the GSI value. Since GSI index is a value quantifying the condition of in-situ rock mass, the GHB criterion is a practical failure condition which can take into the consideration of in-situ rock mass quality. Considering that most rock mechanics engineers are familiar with the linear Mohr-Coulomb criterion and that many rock engineering softwares incorporate Mohr-Coulomb criterion, the equations for the equivalent friction angle and cohesion were also proposed along with the release of the GHB criterion. The proposed equations, however, fix the lower limit of the minor principal stress range, where the linear best-fitting is performed, with the tensile strength of the rock mass. Therefore, if the tensile stress is not expected in the domain of analysis, the calculated equivalent friction angle and cohesion based on the equations in Hoek et al. (2002) could be less accurate. In order to overcome this disadvantage of the existing equations for equivalent friction angle and cohesion, this study proposes the analytical formula which can calculate optimal equivalent friction angle and cohesion in any minor principal stress interval, and verified the accuracy of the derived formula.
The finite element and boundary element methods of underground analysis are both well established numerical techniques for determination of stress and displacement distributions at underground excavation. The finite element method presents antithetical advantages and limitations. Complex constitutive behaviour may be modelled, at the expense of numerical efficiency and, for infinite domain, inadequate representation of remote bounadry conditions. The inherent advantages of the boundary element method are the ease with which infinite domain problems may be analysed, and the efficiency of analysis typically associated with a boundary value solution procedure. Application of the method is limited by the requirements linear constitutive behaviour for the medium. A combined of the finite element and boundary element methods of underground analysis is shown to preserve the advantages of each procedure, and, eliminates their individual disadvantages. Procedures employed in this papers described combined FEBEM algorithm. Solutions of underground excavation verifying the performance of combined FEBEM code are compared with theoretical solution, boundary element solution and finite element solution.
As the construction of nuclear power plants are increased, nuclear wastes disposal has been faced as a serious problem. If nuclear wastes are to be buried in the underground stratum, thermo-mechanical behavior of stratum must be analyzed, because high temperature distribution has a significant effect on tunnel and surrounding stratum. In this study, in order to analyze the structural behavior of the underground which is subject to concentrated heat sources, a coupling method of nonlinear finite elements and linear boundary elements is proposed. The nonlinear finite elements (NFE) are applied in the vicinity of nuclear depository where thermo-mechanical stress is concentrated. The boundary elements are also used in infinite domain where linear behavior is expected. Using the similar method as for the problem in mechanical field, the coupled nonlinear finite element-boundary element (NFEBE) is developed. It is found that NFEBE method is more efficient than NFE which considers nonlinearity in the whole domain for the nuclear wastes depository that is expected to exhibit local nonlinearity behavior. The effect of coefficients of the rock mass such as Poisson's ratio, elastic modulus, thermal diffusivity and thermal expansion coefficient is investigated through the developed method. As a result, it is revealed that the displacements around tunnel are largely dependent on the thermal expansion coefficients.

Heterogeneous hydraulic conductivity in a flow domain is generated under the assumption that it is a random variable with a lognormal, spatially-correlated distribution. The hydraulic head and the conductivity in a groundwater flow system are represented as a stochastic process. The method of Monte Carlo Simulation (MCS) and the finite element method (FEM) are used to determine the statistics of the head and the logconductivity. The second moments of the head and the logconductivity indicate that the cross-covariance of the logconductivity with the head has characteristic distribution patterns depending on the properties of sources, boundary conditions, head gradients, and correlation scales. The negative cross-correlation outlines a weak-response zone where the flow system is weakly responding to a stress change in the flow domain. The stochastic approach has a potential to quantitatively delineate the zone of influence through computations of the cross-covariance distribution.

The magnetic interaction between elliptic Janus magnetic particles are investigated using a direct simulation method. Each particle is a one-to-one mixture of paramagnetic and nonmagnetic materials. The fluid is assumed to be incompressible Newtonian and nonmagnetic. A uniform magnetic field is applied externally in a horizontal direction. A finite-element-based fictitious domain method is employed to solve the magnetic particulate flow in the creeping flow regime. In the magnetic problem, the magnetic field in the entire domain, including the particles and the fluid, is obtained by solving the governing equation for the magnetic potential. Then, the magnetic forces acting on the particles are calculated via a Maxwell stress tensor formulation. In a single particle problem, it is found that the orientation angle at equilibrium is affected by the aspect ratio of the particle. As for the two-particle interaction, the dynamics and the final conformation of the particles are significantly influenced by the aspect ratio, the orientation, and the spatial positions of the particles. For the given positions of the particles, the fluid flow is also influenced by the orientation of each particle. The self-assembly structure of the particles is not a fixed one, but it varies with the above-mentioned factors.
