  • Smart water cities (SWC) are urban municipalities that utilizes modern innovations in managing and preserving the urban water cycle in the city; with the purpose of securing sustainability and improving the quality of life of the urban population. Understanding the different urban water characteristics and management strategies of cities situate a baseline in the development of evaluation scheme in determining whether the city is smart and sustainable. This research herein aims to develop measurements and evaluation for SWC Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), and set up a unified global standard and certification scheme. The assessment for SWC is performed in technical, as well as governance and prospective aspects. KPI measurements under Technical Pillar assess the cities' use of technologies in providing sufficient water supply, monitoring water quality, strengthening disaster resilience, minimizing hazard vulnerability, and maintaining and protecting the urban water ecosystem. Governance and Prospective Pillar on the other hand, evaluates the social, economic and administrative systems set in place to manage the water resources, delivering water services to different levels of society. The performance assessment is composed of a variety of procedures performed in a quantitative and qualitative manner, such as computations through established equations, interviews with authorities in charge, field survey inspections, etc. The developed SWC KPI measurements are used to evaluate the urban water management practices for Busan Eco Delta city, a Semulmeori waterfront area in Gangseo district, Busan. The evaluation and scoring process was presented and established, serving as the basis for the application of the smart water city certification all over the world. • This has been possible by integration techniques such as very large scale integration (VLSI) and wafer scale integration (WSI). Redundancy has been extensively used for manufacturing memory chips and to provide repair of these devices in the presence of faulty cells. If there are too many defects, the momory has to be rejected. But if there are a few defects, it will be more efficient and cost reducing for the company to use it by repairing. Therefore, laser-repair process is nedded for such a reason and redundancy analysis is needed to establish correct target of laser-repair process. The proposed CRA (Correlation Repair Algorithm) simulation, beyond the idea of the conventional redundancy analysis algorithm, aims at reducing the time spent in the process and strengthening cost competitiveness by performing redundancy analysis after simulating each case of defect.

  • Recently, demand for cloud computing has increased and remote access due to home work and external work has increased. In addition, a new security paradigm is required in the current situation where the need to be vigilant against not only external attacker access but also internal access such as internal employee access to work increases and various attack techniques are sophisticated. As a result, the network security model applying Zero-Trust, which has the core principle of doubting everything and not trusting it, began to attract attention in the security industry. Zero Trust Security monitors all networks, requires authentication in order to be granted access, and increases security by granting minimum access rights to access requesters. In this paper, we explain zero trust and zero trust architecture, and propose a new cloud security system for strengthening access control that overcomes the limitations of existing security systems using zero trust and blockchain and can be used by various companies.

  • The liquefaction of soil occurs when a soil loses strength and stiffness because of applied stress, such as an earthquake or other changes in stress conditions that result in a loss of cohesion. Hence, a method for improving the strength of liquefiable soil needs to be developed. Many techniques have been presented for their possible applications to mitigate liquefiable soil. Recently, alternative methods using biopolymers (such as xanthan gum, guar gum, and gellan gum), nontraditional additives, have been introduced to stabilize fine-grained soils. However, no studies have been done on the use of carrageenan as a biopolymer for soil improvement. Due to of its rheological and chemical structure, carrageenan may have the potential for use as a biopolymer for soil improvement. This research aims to investigate the effect of adding carrageenan on the soil strength of treated liquefiable soil. The biopolymers used for comparison are carrageenan (as a novel biopolymer), xanthan gum, and guar gum. Then, sand samples were made in cylindrical molds (5 cm × 10 cm) by the dry mixing method. The amount of each biopolymer was 1%, 3%, and 5% of the total sample volume with a moisture content of 20%, and the samples were cured for seven days. In terms of observing the effect of temperature on the carrageenan-treated soil, several samples were prepared with dry sand that was heated in an oven at various temperatures (i.e., 20℃ to 75℃) before mixing. The samples were tested with the direct shear test, UCS test, and SEM test. It can increase the cohesion value of liquefiable soil by 22% to 60% compared to untreated soil. It also made the characteristics of the liquefiable increase by 60% to 92% from very loose sandy soil (i.e., ϕ=29°) to very dense sandy soil. Carrageenan was also shown to have a significant effect on the compressive strength and to exceed the liquefaction limit. Based on the results, carrageenan was found to have the potential for use as an alternative biopolymer.

  • The purpose is van Manen's interpretation of verbal violence experienced by nursing students during their growing up period in order to use it as basic data to improve the verbal communication essential for solving nursing problems and performing tasks with guardians and peers. For this, 10 students enrolled in the nursing department of A University in Gyeonggi-do were selected and data were collected through in-depth interviews. Data analysis conducted an existential inquiry process to focus on the essence of experience. Five thematic statements in this study were as follows: 'Beginning with a trivial conversation', 'Getting confused mind', 'Being an opportunity to reflect on myself', 'Changing the frame of my thought' and 'Making a mature me'. As a result, it confirmed the necessity of strengthening language usage and personal competency that respect the other party. Therefore, it is suggested that follow-up studies on empathy or self-positive effects are needed for effective communication techniques.

  • As the aging population grows, the incidence of cancer is increasing. Skin cancer appears externally, but people often don't notice it or simply overlook it. As a result, if the early detection period is missed, the survival rate in the case of late stage cancer is only 7.5-11%. However, the disadvantage of diagnosing, serious skin cancer is that it requires a lot of time and money, such as a detailed examination and cell tests, rather than simple visual diagnosis. To overcome these challenges, we propose an Attention-based CNN model skin cancer classification system. If skin cancer can be detected early, it can be treated quickly, and the proposed system can greatly help the work of a specialist. To mitigate the problem of image data imbalance according to skin cancer type, this skin cancer classification model applies the Over Sampling, technique to data with a high distribution ratio, and adds a pre-learning model without an Attention layer. This model is then compared to the model without the Attention layer. We also plan to solve the data imbalance problem by strengthening data augmentation techniques for specific classes.

  • This research aimed to refine the concrete floor finishing for enhancing its performance compared to the traditional way. The new method involved the removing the deteriorated mortar layer and reinforcing the surface to augment the durability and bond strength of the floor surface. This study performed the experience to evaluate the bond strength, drop depth, rebound hammer hardness, and the surface hardness of the surface by adopting traditional and refined method. The results showed the proposed method enhanced the performance on all the metrics. Based on the experiment, the bond strength increased about 2.79 times before installing the finishing material, and the strength also improved about 1.67 times and 1.44 times at the painted finishing and non-painted finishing, respectively. In addition, the drop depth decreased about 4.42 times when adopting the proposed method, which shows the enhanced resistance to declamination compared with applying the traditional way. Lastly, the surface hardness measured by scratch thickness significantly improved about 505% in this experiment. The finding of this study indicates that the proposed method can substantially enhance in bond strendth and durability of floor finishing, reduce the defects of the concrete-based floor, and extend the life of the products.

  • Brittle failure of Mesozoic granite in the Daejeon region is predicted using empirical analysis and numerical modeling techniques. The input parameters selected for these techniques were based on the results of laboratory tests, including damage-controlled tests. Rock masses that were considered to be strong during laboratory testing were assigned to "group A" and those considered to be extremely strong were assigned to "group B". The properties of each group were then used in the analyses. In-situ stress measurements, or the ratio of horizontal to vertical stress (k), were also necessary for the analyses, but no such measurements have been made in the study area. Therefore, k values of 1, 2, and 3 were assumed. In the case of k=1, empirical analysis and numerical modeling show no indication of brittle failure from the surface to1000 m depth. When k=2, brittle failure of the rock mass occurs at depths below 800 m. For k=3, brittle failure occurs at depths below 600 m. Although both the Cohesion Weakening Friction Strengthening (CWFS) and Mohr-Coulomb models were used to predict brittle failure, only the CWFS model performed well in simulating the range and depth of the brittle failure zone.
