Physical and Mechanical Properties of Concrete Using Waste Activated Carbon (폐활성탄을 혼입한 콘크리트의 물리.역학적 성질)

  • This study was performed to evaluate the physical and mechanical properties of concrete using waste activated carbon. Materials used were ordinary portlant cement, crushed coarse aggregate, natural fine aggregate, waste activated carbon, and superplasticizer. The substitution ratios of waste activated carbon were 0,1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9 and 10%. The unit weight was decreased and water absorption ratio was increased with increasing the waste activated carbon content, respectively. When the substitution ratio of waste activated carbon was 3%, compressive strength, flexural strength and dynamic modulus of elastisity were more higher than that of the ordinary portland cement (OPC), and it was decreased with increasing the waste activated carbon content, respectively. The most effective contents of waste activated carbon was 2% in performance and 4% in practical use Accordingly, waste activated carbon can be used for concrete material.

  • This study concerns the cement-solidification/stabilization of the municipal waste incineration fly-ash. Compressive strength and leaching test of heavy metals were evaluated for varying types and ratios of cements and the effects of some additives of Hauyne clinker and slag were also discussed. In the cases of using cement binders more than 10%, the compressive strength after 3 days showed the values over $20kgf/cm^2$. Type III cement and Hauyne clinker improved the compressive strength, especially early strength. And the values of leaching test showed that cement-solidification is effective method to stabilize heavy metals especialy when using type III cement and adding Hauyne clinker and slag,.

An Experimental Study on Shear Strength of Chemically-Based Self-Consolidating Concrete

  • An experimental investigation was conducted to compare the shear strength of full-scale beams constructed with chemically-based, self-consolidating concrete (SCC) with conventional concrete (CC). This experimental program consisted of 16 rectangular beams (12 without shear reinforcing and 4 with shear reinforcing in the form of stirrups), 8 beams for each mix design. Additionally, three different longitudinal reinforcement ratios were evaluated within the test matrix. The beam specimens were tested under a simply supported four-point condition. The experimental shear strengths of the beams were compared with both the shear provisions of selected standards (U.S., Australia, Canada, Europe, and Japan) and a shear database of CC specimens. This comparison indicates that chemically-based SCC beams possess comparable shear strength as CC beams.

Long-term deflection of high-strength fiber reinforced concrete beams

  • The paper presents an experimental and theoretical study on the influence of steel fibers and longitudinal tension and compression reinforcements on immediate and long-term deflections of high-strength concrete beams of 85 MPa (12,300 psi) compressive, strength. Test results of eighteen beams subjected to sustained load for 180 days show that the deflection behavior depends on the longitudinal tension and compression reinforcement ratios and fiber content; excessive amount of compression reinforcement and fibers may have an unfavorable effect on the long-term deflections. The beams having the ACI Code's minimum longitudinal tension reinforcement showed much higher time-dependent deflection to immediate deflection ratio, when compared with that of the beams having about 50 percent of the balanced tension reinforcement. The results of theoretical analysis of tested beams and those of a parametric study show that the influence of steel fibers in increasing the moment of inertia of cracked transformed sections is most pronounced in beams having small amount of longitudinal tension reinforcement.

초고강도 콘크리트의 재료특성 및 휨 거동에 관한 실험적 연구

  • The object of this study is to investigate material characteristics and flexural behavior of high strength concrete. Principal causes of variations of high compressive strength include the strength-producing capabilities of cement and silica hume. Compressive strength of 1200 kgf/$\textrm{cm}^2$ is introduced for identifying the effect of the variation of the size of porocity and alternative method of measurement, Acoustic Emition method, is applied to examine the phenominon of concrete failure. The main test variables in the beam element are tensile steel ratios, presence of shear reinforcement, and change of steel shape. The estimation of stress block in the flexural test of this element tends to support the present theory and may suggest a desirable shape of the stress block.

Study on the characteristics of grout material using ground granulated blast furnace slag and carbon fiber

  • This study aims to evaluate the applicability of a grout material that is mixed with carbon fiber, biogrout, ground granulated blast furnace slag (GGBS) powder and cement. Uniaxial compressive strength tests were performed on homo-gel samples at days of 1, 3, 7, 14 and 28. In addition, the variation of permeability with the mixing ratios was measured. Based on the uniaxial compressive strength test, it was confirmed that the uniaxial compressive strength increased by 1.2times when carbon fiber increased by 1%. In addition, as a result of the permeability test, it was found that when the GGBS increased by 20%, the permeability coefficient decreased by about 1.5times. Therefore, the developed grout material can be used as a cutoff grouting material in the field due to its strength and cut-off effect.

  • To resolve the problem which is demand and supply imbalance of fine aggregate by the shortage of natural fine aggregate and the environment regulations, the studies for the application of recycled fine aggregate made from waste concrete have been recently carried out. The objective of this study is to shed light on the mechanical properties and durability performance of concrete using recycle fine aggregate with various water to cement ratios and unit water contents. And it is intend to propose the fundamental data for structural application of recycled concrete. In particular, the effects according to the variations of water to cement ratios and unit water contents in recycled concrete with recycled fine aggregate replacement of 100 percent are discussed by the test results, such as air content, slump, time of set, compressive strength, tensile strength, carbonation, chloride penetration.

Characteristics of Environment-Friendly Porous Polymer Concrete for Permeable Pavement

  • This study was performed to develop environment-friendly porous polymer concrete utilizing recycled aggregates [RPPC] for permeable pavement of uniform quality with high permeability and flexural strength as well as excellent freezing and thawing resistance. The void ratios of RPPC are in the range of 15$\sim$$24\%$, showing the tendency that it is reduced to a great extent as the mixing ratio of the binder increases. The compressive and flexural strength of RPPC are in the range of 19$\sim$26 MPa and 6.2$\sim$7.4 MPa, respectively. Also, it shows a tendency to increase as the mixing ratio of the binder and filler increases. The permeability coefficients of RPPC are in the range of $6.3\times$$10_{-1}$$\sim$$1.5\times$$10_{-2}$cm/s. The flexural loads of RPPC are in the range of 18$\sim$32 KN. The weight reduction ratios obtained from the test for freezing and thawing resistance are in the range of 1.1$\sim$$2.4\%$ after 300 cycles of repeated freezing and thawing of the specimen for all mixes. The relative compressive strengths of RPPC after 300 cycles of freezing and thawing against the compressive strength before freezing and thawing test are in the range of 89$\sim$$96\%$.

Behavior of Concrete-Filled Square Steel Tubular Column-H Beam Connections with Exterior Diaphragm (외부다이아프램으로 보강한 콘크리트충전 각형강관 기둥-H형강보 접합부의 거동)

  • The objective of this study is to investigate the structural behavior of concrete-filled steel tubular column-H beam connections with exterior stiffeners. As a preliminary test, simple tensile test on the column to H-beam flange connections stiffened were conducted The paramaters of tensile test are the thickness(T=9, 12, 15m) and the width(W=50, 75, 100, 150mm) of exterior stiffeners. The simple tensile test were conducted to 7 kinds of specimens. Estimating the load, displacement, and strain from each kind, results of simple tensile test were compared with results of second test. On the basis of simple tensile test, test on the column to H-km connections stiffened with the sames under monotonic and cyclic load were conducted. Specimens of 5 for the second experiment were made. In analysis, comparing each strengthes and stiffnesses we estimated deformation capacity. Comparing and estimating each yielding strength ratios and maxium-strength ratios on the basis of yield line theory, new strength formula of beam-to-column connections was suggested.

Study on the Physical Property of Stretch Film for Wrapping of Roughage (조사료 래핑용 스트레치 필름의 물리적 특성에 관한 연구)

  • Recently more dairy farmers are interested in the utilization of stretch film for wrapping silage material. Most of stretch film are imported from abroad and one domestic product was developed, but its quality has not yet been tested. Therefore this study was executed to offer basic data on this material to the farmers. Measured items were tensile load, extension ratio, and tear propagation strength of stretch films. Comparisons were made among the white color of domestic product(Kw), and white(Fw), black (Fb) and green color(Fg) of foreign products. The result were summarized as follows: 1. Tensile loads of lengthwise direction in stretch films were 557.4, 377.4, 282.6 and 398.4kgf/$\textrm{cm}^2$ in Kw, Fw, Fb and Fg, respectively, and tensile loads of width direction were 415.9, 418.1, 360.2 and 433.0kgf/$\textrm{cm}^2$ in Kw, Fw, Fb and Fg, respectively. 2. Extension ratios of lengthwise direction were 650, 462.5, 512.5% and 537.5% in Kw, Fw, Fb and Fg, respectively, Extension ratios of width direction were 930, 962.5, 950 and 1,000% in Kw, Fw, Fb and Fg, respectively. 3 Tear propagation strength of lengthwise direction 187.9, 148.9, 157.3 and 142.8kgf/cm, and tear propagation strength of width direction were 141.4, 129.8, 140.4 and 106.6kgf/cm in Kw, Fw, Fb and Fg, respectively. 4. In the light transmittance, there was no difference between white and green color stretch film, but it was very low in black one. Therefore, it is thought that research on quality of roll bale silage treated with each stretch film would be needed.
