  • In this paper, the effect of corrosion level and crack width on the cohesive strength-slip behavior of corroded steel rebar and concrete interface is conducted. The existing studies mainly focus on the decrease in bond strength with respect to the level of corrosion; there are, however, few studies on the decrease in cohesive strength according to the crack width of the concrete surface due to corrosion. Therefore, in this study, a series of tests for the cohesive strength, slip behavior and mass loss of the reinforcing bar is evaluated at the surface of corroded rebar and concrete. It is found that the tendency to decrease the bond strength is closely related to the crack width rather than the corrosion level. Hence, to determine the degradation performance for the bond strength-slip behavior relation, the occurrence of cracks on the concrete surface can be a suitable index.

  • This experimental study is to evaluate the effects of recycled coarse aggregate replacement level on the mechanical properties of concrete produced at Batcher plant. The main test parameter was replacement level of recycled coarse aggregate with the ratio of 0, 30, 60 and 100% to the natural coarse aggregate. From the test results, it was found that compressive strength, elastic modulus and splitting strength are decreased with the increased proportion of replacement level. Therefore, some design coefficients or recommendations for elastic modulus and splitting strength of concrete need to be reconsidered with minor reduction factor of '0.85'.

  • The purpose of this study was to evaluate the bond strength of orthodontic brackets bonded to metal bar with chemically cured adhesive (Ortho-one, Bisco Co, USA) in various types and directions of force application. Three types of metal bracket with different bracket base configurations; Micro-Loc base(Tomy Co, Japan), Chessboard base(Daesung Co, Korea), Non-etched Foil-Mesh base(Dentaurum, Germany); were used in this study. Peel, shear, tensile bond strengths were measured by universal testing machine and compared each other. The peel force directions applied were $0^{\circ},\;15^{\circ},\;30^{\circ},\;45^{\circ},\;60^{\circ},\;75^{\circ},\;90^{\circ}$ And then, in consideration of the different surface area of the bracket bases, the bond strength Per unit area were calculated and compared. The results obtained were summarized as follows: 1. The bond strengths according to the types and the directions of the forces were greatest at the shear forces in all three bracket base configuration groups(p<0.01). 2. As the peel force direction grew higher in degree, peel bond strength decreased. The Patterns of peel bond strength change according to force direction was similar in all three bracket base configurations. The minimum bond strength was 60 degree-peel bond strengths in all three bracket base configurations. 3. In Micro-Loc base group, minimum peel bond strength$(_{60}PBS)$ was in $29\%$ level of shear bond strength and $52\%$ level of tensile bond strength. In Chessboard base group, $_{60}PBS$ was in $34\%$ level of shear bond strength and $61\%$ level of tensile bond strength. In Non-etched Foil-Mesh base group, $_{60}PBS$ was in $34\%$ level of shear bond strength and $55\%$ level of tensile bond strength. 4. The bond strengths per unit area were lowest in Non-etched Foil-Mesh base group and highest in Chessboard base group(p<0.05). However, there were no differences in shear bond strength, tensile bond strength, $75^{\circ}\;and\;90^{\circ}$ per unit area between Micro-Loc and Chessboard base groups.

  • Fastener tapes are widely used as auxiliary materials in textile products, and military textiles products are also applied. However, in Korea, the HL3-WA class of KS K 1309 was applied to military uniforms without consideration of the operating environment. Instead of adopting the standard of initial strength for Korean military uniforms, the US military applied the value after 3 washings, and presented different properties according to the items. Also in Japan, the standard was applied differently according to products in general clothing. The purpose of this study in to examine the quality level of fastener tapes used for military materials. The changes of tensile shear strength and peel strength of military and commercial fastener tape were studied after washing. As a result, the initial strength of the current military fastener tapes was higher than commercial one, but the strength retention rate was rapidly decreased as the number of washing. So it was confirmed that the decrease in strength was relatively lower than commercial one. It is necessary to improve the durability by adjusting the adhesive strength to suit the purpose of the product, and it is necessary to consider the priority of maintaining the durability according to the initial performance and repeated use according to the use environment, respectively.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the strengths of single-parent families and the related variables based on the family strength approach. The major findings were as follows. First, good communication, family bond, children's adjustment and coping ability were characteristics of single-parent family strengths. Secondly, strengths of single-parent family were related to income and period of becoming a single-parent family. Thirdly, single parents who had a higher level of personal resources such as high self-esteem and economic stability perceived a higher level of family strengths. Fourth, single parents who had a higher level of social support perceived a higher level of family strength. Fifth, there was no interaction effect between personal resource and social resource on single-parent family strengths. Last, both personal and social resources had effects on the strength of single- parent family. Especially personal resource and self-esteem were the most important variables and had a strong influence on single-parent family strengths. The results of this study have important implications for theory, research and practice. Research on the strengths of the Korean single-parent family is new and more extensive investigation is required.

  • This experimental research presents the seismic performance of steel reinforced high-strength concrete (SRHC) short columns. Eleven SRHC column specimens were tested under simulated earthquake loading conditions, including six short column specimens and five normal column specimens. The parameters studied included the axial load level, stirrup details and shear span ratio. The failure modes, critical region length, energy dissipation capacity and deformation capacity, stiffness and strength degradation and shear displacement of SRHC short columns were analyzed in detail. The effects of the parameters on seismic performance were discussed. The test results showed that SRHC short columns exhibited shear-flexure failure characteristics. The critical region length of SRHC short columns could be taken as the whole column height, regardless of axial load level. In comparison to SRHC normal columns, SRHC short columns had weaker energy dissipation capacity and deformation capacity, and experienced faster stiffness degradation and strength degradation. The decrease in energy dissipation and deformation capacity due to the decreasing shear span ratio was more serious when the axial load level was higher. However, SRHC short columns confined by multiple stirrups might possess good seismic behavior with enough deformation capacity (ultimate drift ratio ${\geq}2.5%$), even though a relative large axial load ratio (= 0.38) and relative small structural steel ratio (= 3.58%) were used, and were suitable to be used in tall buildings in earthquake regions.
