  • CARALL(Carbon fiber reinforced aluminum laminates) was fabricated with CFRP prepreg and A17075, using a autoclave. The mechanical properties of three samples i.e. A17075, CFRP and CARALL were also investigated as a function of size in circular holes. Theoretical approach into analysing mechanical behaviors near the circular hole notch was carried out to compare with experimental data, furthermore. By the adhesive bonding of A17075 to CFRP, abrupt strength reduction was prevented. From the consideration of modified point stress failure criterion, predicted results was well consistent with the experimental one.

  • Since stainless steel sheets have good mechanical properties, weldability, appearance and corrosion resistance, they are commonly used as one of the structural materials of the railroad cars or the commercial vehicles which are manufactured by the spat welding. Among the many kinds of spot welded lap joints, it can be found that multi-lap joints are employed in their body structure. But, fatigue strength of these joints is lower than that of base metal due to high stress concentration at the nugget edge of spot weld and is considerably influenced by welding conditions as well as the mechanical and geometrical factors. Thus, it is necessary to establish a reasonable and systematic design criterion for the long life design of the spot-welded body structures. In this paper, the stress distribution and deformation around the spot-welded multi-lap joints subjected to tensile shear load was numerically analyzed. Also, the $\Delta$P-Nf curve was obtained by fatigue tests. Using these results, $\Delta$P-Nf curves were rearranged in to the ${\Delta}{\sigma}$-Nf relation with the maximum stress at nugget edge of spot weld.

  • The quality of the surface layer in concrete structures plays an important role in the durability of the concrete. The concrete factory products are made as they improve the appearance of the surface and compressive strength in need. A common criterion to judge the quality of concrete products frequently seen in our daily life appears to be "beauty" in terms of consistent shaping. However, as for most concrete curb in such areas where a large amount of anti-freezing agents(NaCl) and ice and snow melting agents(CaCl2) are spread over roads to ensure road safety during the winter season, since deterioration advances from the surface, scaling is seen on the surface concrete due to deterioration which combined freezing damage and salt damage. Especially, In cold northern districts, the spreading amount of deicing salts increases by regulation of studded tire use, and the scaling of the concrete products, the various parts of concrete structures for roads is increasing in recent years. In this study, L-shape concrete curb were targeted, the permeable form method with the commercial permeable sheet was applied to it and the improvements of the quality were examined. By the permeable form method, surface layers got strengthened, which prevented permeation of the deterioration factor from the outside, and the scaling resistance of the upper surface where the permeable sheet was applied improved exceedingly. It will be expected by applying the permeable form method to various concrete products that frost resistance improves and scaling damage decreases.

  • Parameters of failure criteria, compressive strength and elastic modulus are most important for design and stability analysis of rock structure using numerical analysis. In this study, it suggests that the application of input data for numerical analysis by the literature study and the result of the 150 sets of triaxial compressive test. There was much different between parameters of failure criterion suggested by Hoek-Brown and parameters resulted from the analysis using 150 sets of triaxial compressive test. But the converting equations of compressive strength have had an interrelation with RMR. However, the converting of elastic of elastic modulus were different as chosen of equation, and the equation by Nicholson et at was more useful than others.

  • The designer of a tall building even in moderate and low seismic regions should, in finalizing the desist consider the probable impact of the design basis earthquake on the selected structural system. In this study, seismic response analysis was conducted to evaluate the seismic performance of concentrically braced steel highrise buildings which were designed only for governing wind loading under moderate seismicity. The main purpose of this analysis was to see if the wind design would create a system whose elastic capacity clearly exceeds the probable demand as suggested by the design basis earthquake. The strength demand-to-capacity study revealed that the wind-designed steel highrise buildings with the aspect ratio of larger than five can withstand the design basis earthquake elastically by a sufficient margin due to the system over-strength resulting from the wind-serviceability criterion. The maximum story drift demand from the design basis earthquake was just 0.25% (or half the limit of Immediate Occupancy performance level in FEMA 273)

  • This paper deals with the topology optimized design of the riser support structures for floating production storage and offloading units (FPSOs) under global and local loading conditions. For a preliminary study and validation of the numerical approach, a simplified plate under static loading is first evaluated with the representative topology optimization methods, the Homogenization Design Method (HDM) and Density Method (DM) or Simple Isotropic Material with Penalization (SIMP). In the context of the corresponding riser support structures, the design problem is formulated such that structure shapes based on design domain variables are determined by minimizing the compliance subject to a mass target, considering the stress criterion. An initial design model is generated based on an actual FPSO riser support configuration. The topology optimization results present improved design performances under various loading conditions, while staying within the allowable limit of the offshore area.

  • The postbuckling compressive strengths of $[0/90/\pm\theta]_s$ composite laminated cylindrical panels with various fiber angles and width-to-length ratios are characterized by the nonlinear finite element method. For the iteration and load-increment along the postbuckling equilibrium path a modified arc-length method in which the effect of failure can be considered is introduced. In the progressive failure analysis the maximum stress criterion and complete unloading model are used. Present finite element results show good agreement with experiments for $[0_3/90]_s$ cylindrical panel and $[0/\pm45/90/]_s$ plate. The postbuckling compressive strength of $[0/90/\pm\theta]_s$ composite laminated cylindrical panel is independent of the initial buckling stress but high in the panel with large value of the bending stiffness in axial direction. In the several cylindrical panels, it is observed that the prebuckling compressive failures occur and result into the collapse before the buckling.

  • The purpose of this study is to provide basic data, such as exerting muscle power of the lower-extremity, EMG test and pressure distribution for designing ergonomic workstation in sitting posture. The exerting muscle power of the lower-extremity was measured by PRIMUS in 4 postures of 90$^{\circ}$, 120$^{\circ}$, 150$^{\circ}$ and 180$^{\circ}$. And performed ANOVA test on Max. and Mean 100%MVC. In EMG test for surveying muscle mobiligation, 5 muscles(Rectus Femoris, Vastus Lateralis, Gastrocnemius, Soleus, Tibialis Anterior) were employed. Additional experiment in pressure distribution in sitting posture by Pliance(16$\time$16 poles), Max. pressure was measured and performed ANOVA test on the results. Concludingly, sitting posture with 120$^{\circ}$ lower-extremity is the best design criterion for ergonomic workstation in sitting posture.

  • Prediction of the characteristics of both in-plane and out-of-plane elastic waves within conducting nanoplates in the presence of bidirectionally in-plane magnetic fields is of interest. Using Lorentz's formulas and nonlocal continuum theory of Eringen, the nonlocal elastic version of the equations of motion is obtained. The frequencies as well as the corresponding phase and group velocities pertinent to the in-plane and out-of-plane waves are analytically evaluated. The roles of the strength of in-plane magnetic field, wavenumber, wave direction, nanoplate's thickness, and small-scale parameter on characteristics of waves are discussed. The obtained results show that the in-plane frequencies commonly grow with the in-plane magnetic field. However, the transmissibility of the out-of-plane waves rigorously depends on the magnetic field strength, direction of the propagated transverse waves, small-scale parameter, and thickness of the nanoplate. The criterion for safe transferring of the out-of-plane waves through the conducting nanoplate immersed in a bidirectional magnetic field is also explained and discussed.

  • A study has been made of the corrosion fatigue of high strength low alloy steel in 3.5% NaCl solution under tension stress for solution temperature being 25.deg. C, 55.deg. C and 85 .deg. C. The main results obtained are as follows; 1) The corrosion fatigue crack growth rate curve could be divided into the First Region, the Second Region and the Third Region. 2) The corrosion fatigue crack growth rates in the First Region and the Second Region were Arrhenius temperature-dependent in this test range. The apparent activation energies for the corrosion fatigue cack growth rate were found to be 2000cal/mol in the First Region and 3700 cal/mol in the Second Region. 3) Hematite (Fe$_{2}$O$_{3}$) as the hexahedral crystal and magnetite (Fe$_{3}$O$_{4}$) as the octahedral crystal were observed in the corrosion products on the corrosion fatigue fracture surface at 85.deg. C and the anode fusion seem to be generated in the crack tip region at high temperature. 4) The complex environment effect ratio which was defined by the ratio of fatigue crack growth rate in corrosion environment to that in air might be considered not only a criterion estimating the effect of environment quantitatively but also an important parameter in the selection of the design stress for the fail safe design. The complex environment effect was not greater than ten in this test.
