Purpose: The purpose of this study was to compare the reliability of unilateral hip abductor strength assessment in side-lying with break and make test in subjects with pelvic drop. Hip abduction muscles are very important in the hip joint structures. Therefore, it is essential to evaluate their strength in a reliable way. Methods: Twenty-five subjects participated in this study. Unilateral isometric hip abductor muscle strength was measured in side-lying, with use of a specialized tensiometer using smart KEMA system for make test, of a hand held dynamometer for break test. Coefficients of variation, and intra class correlation coefficients were calculated to determine test-retest reliability of hip abductor strength. Results: In make test, maximal hip abductor strength in the side-lying position was significantly higher compared with break test (p<0.05). Additionally, Test-retest reliability of hip abductor strength measurements in terms of coefficients of variation (3.7% for make test, 16.1% for break test) was better in the side-lying position with make test. All intraclass correlation coefficients with break test were lower than make test (0.90 for make test, 0.73 for break test). Conclusion: The side-lying body position with make test offers more reliable assessment of unilateral hip abductor strength than the same position with break test. Make test in side-lying can be recommended for reliable measurement of hip abductor strength in subjects with pelvic drop.

This paper deals with two contents: first, distributions of plate slenderness ratios, stiffened plate slenderness ratios, and stiffener slenderness ratios, which include dimensions and material variables of stiffened plates, of stiffened plates of large-sized in-service vessels, and, second, comparison of compressive strengths. The investigated vessels consist of 59 tankers, 49 bulkers, 28 product carriers, 15 container carriers, and 12 multi-purpose vessels. The tankers are ranged from handymax class to VLCC and larger than Suezmax class. The sizes of the bulkers are 20K to 200K deadweight. The maximum size of containers is less than 5000TEU class. Two parameters for normal distributions of the slenderness ratios (mean and standard deviation) are suggested and probable ranges of the slenderness ratios are also graphically presented. The ultimate strengths of the stiffened plates are presented using the various simplified formulas and nonlinear FEAs. As well, average compressive strength curves, which are necessary for the estimation of the hull girder moment capacities, are proposed. It is proved that formulas for stiffened plates in CSR overestimate slightly in overall average strain range. Mode5 formula (plate buckling mode) in CSR show unreasonably conservative results with respect to the ultimate strengths rather than post-ultimate average compressive strengths.
Purpose: This study was performed to investigate the influence of the condition with and without external support on the strength of hip flexor in supine position in subjects without core stabilization. Hip flexor muscles are very functional in the hip joint structures. Therefore, it is essential to evaluate the strength of hip flexor in a clinical and precise way. Methods: Twenty subjects participated in this study. The double bent leg-lower test was used to evaluate subjects without core stabilization. The strength of hip flexor muscles was evaluated in supine position, both with and without external support condition. The paired t-test was used to compare the strength of hip flexor muscles according to external support. The level of statistical significance was at α=0.05. The intra-rater reliability of the repeated measures of hip flexor strength was estimated by calculating the intra-class correlation coefficients (ICC). Results: In subjects without core stabilization, the strength of hip flexor in supine was greater with external support than that without external support (p<0.05). In addition, the intra-rater reliability with an ICC (3, 1) of the strength measurement of hip flexor with external support was higher than that without external support. Conclusion: In subjects without core stabilization, the condition with external support can contribute to the strength of hip flexor in supine position and the strength measurement of hip flexor should be considered with the condition with and without external support.
This paper presents an investigation of the mechanical and microstructural properties of Class F fly ash based geopolymer containing sodium sulfate as an additive. Sodium sulfate was used as an chemical additive at the dosage levels of 0, 2, 4, and 6wt% of fly ash. Sodium hydroxide and sodium silicate solutions were used to activate fly ash. The compressive strengths of geopolymer pastes were measured at the age of 28 days. The microstructures of the geopolymer pastes were examined using XRD, MIP and SEM tests. The additions of 2wt% and 4wt% sodium sulfate produced geopolymers with high strength, while increasing the dosage of levels to 6% resulted in almost no changes in strength, comparing with the control geopolymer. The optimum increase in strength was obtained with the addition of 4wt% sodium sulfate. As the amount of sodium sulfate is increased, no additional crystalline phase was detected and no change of amorphous phase indicated despite the change in the strength development. The increase in the strength was due to the change of pore size distribution in samples. As addition of sodium sulfate altered the morphologies of reactive productions and Si/Al ratios of the reaction products, the strengths were thus affected. It was found that the strengths of geopolymer were larger for lower Si/Al ratios of reaction products formed in samples. The optimal amount of sodium sulfate in the fly ash based geopolymer helps to improve mechanical properties of the geopolymer, on the other hand, the high percentage of sodium sulfate could exist as an impurity in the geopolymer and hinder the geopolymer reaction.
Armed aircraft of a basic trainer class installs external stores under wing box by using pylon and performs an operation such as weapon delivery and jettison, and should be designed to withstand all kinds of loads applied to external stores. The static strength test of pylons and wing box was performed to assess the static strength of pylon and their support structures for substantiation. Based on the test, the structures were verified to fully satisfy a given design requirement. In this paper, methods of test load generation of wing box and pylon, evaluation of test result data and design result of test set-up were presented. Comparing the FEM analysis with the same test data can lead to good match and reasonable deviation between both. Finally, based on the test and the analysis, the static strength of test article was substantiated and the reliability and effectiveness of analysis math model were obtained.
The objective of this study is to investigate the criteria of the width-to-thickness ratio and to evaluate the buckling strength of high strength steel beam-columns and to compare their buckling strength with design codes, which are the Limit State Design code and the Allowable Stress Desogn code(drift). SM520TMC and SM570Q class steels are used for high strength steels. The coupon test and the stub column test were carried out to investigate the properties of high strength steels and the stress-strain curves of stub columns. The buckling strength of high strength steel beam-columns are assessed by numerical analysis used axial force, moment and curvature relationships.
In recent years, the performance requested for which an ultra-high rise buildings is diversified. Large spans are designed in order to gain wide workspace. Column positions are shifted in middle stories to provide space different from neighboring floors. Moreover, in the bottom layers of the building, it is becoming more important to expand freedom to plan flexibility such as creating publically opened wide atria that gives attractive free space. Earthquake-proof criteria is also changing not only human life protection deign but also a design that allows functional continuity. In order to achieve thee needs, as one of technology, we have developed ultra-high strength concrete filled tubular (CFT) columns of the box section that combine ultra-high strength concrete with specified strength of $150N/mm^2$ and ultra-high strength steel material with tensile strength of $780N/mm^2$. In this paper, the outline of development of an ultra-high strength CFT column is reported. Also, the structural design of the ultra-high-rise building using the CFT columns is reported.

$T4K^{TM}$(Myofunctional Research Co, Australia) is one of the myofunctional appliance developed to be used in children of mixed dentition. Myofuncitonal appliance stimulate the facial, masticatory and tongue muscle and help to balance the muscular force. Labial bow included in the device exerts strength in excessively labial inclineded upper jaw, Lip bumper blocks strength of the mouth to prevent abnormal strength exerted in lower jaw, Tongue tag secures proper position of tongue, and additional exercise is not required for child patients. For the more, simpler design and softer texture of device prmoted cooperation of patients during use. This case report is to present the satisfactory results gained by using $T4K^{TM}$ on Class II patients. Comment 1. $T4K^{TM}$ was applied in Class II malocclusion patients of mixed dentition with expected space insufficient to gain facial improvement. 2. Excessive overjet, overbite were improved. 3. Main effects are regarded to have been achieved by development of lingual slant of upper jaw, labial slant of lower jaw, and lower part of jawbone. 4. Bad habits, such as mouth breathing, can also be adjusted.

Shipping activities have become possible in the Arctic Ocean due to melting ice by global warming. An increasing number of vessels are passing through the Arctic Ocean consequently bringing concerns of ship-iceberg collisions. Thus, most classification societies have implemented regulations to determine requirements for ice strengthening in ship structures. This paper presents the simulation results of an ice-strengthened polar class ship after an iceberg collision. The ice-strengthened polar class ship was created in accordance with the Unified Requirements for a Polar-Ship (IACS URI). An elastic-perfect plastic ice model was adopted for this simulation with a spherical shape. A Tsai-Wu yield surface was also used for the ice model. Collision simulations were conducted under the commercial code LS-DYNA 971. Hull deformations on the ice-strengthened foreship structure and collision interaction forces have been analysed in this paper. A normal-strength ship structure in an iceberg collision was also simulated to present comparison results. Distinct differences in structural strength against ice impact forces were shown between the ice-strengthened and normal-strength ship structures in the simulation results. About 1.8 m depth of hull deformation was found on the normal ship, whereas 1.0 m depth of hull deformation was left on the ice-strengthened polar class ship.

In this paper, we develop noninformative priors that are used for estimating the reliability of stress-strength system under the Burr-type X distribution. A class of priors is found by matching the coverage probabilities of one-sided Bayesian credible interval with the corresponding frequentist coverage probabilities. It turns out that the reference prior is a first order matching prior. The propriety of posterior under matching prior is provided. The frequentist coverage probabilities are given for small samples.
