Multimedia streams transmitted through the Internet have a strict playback delay time. Multimedia data arriving aster the playback time cannot be played in the receiver and are discarded. Thus, this paper proposed a protocol, in which the multimedia stream server determines whether data can be played in the receiver before sending the data. The proposed model has a PSCTP sub-layer on top of existing PR-SCTP and decides whether to send data messages, which have come from the multimedia applicationserver, and which PR-SCTP stream the data will be sent to. In addition, the proposed model uses the differentiated retransmission function of PR-SCTP. We evaluated the performance of SCTP, PR-SCTP and PSCTP using NS2 simulator. According to the results of the evaluation, the PSCTP protocol decreased the volume of transmission and increased the video decodable ratio compared to other protocols.

This paper describes implementation of the core DSM-CC UU interface. It briefly describes the reference model for the DSM-CC and related standards that should be reviewed for the implementation. The Common Object Request Broker Architechture, Revision 2.0 (CORBA 2.0) is sued as a remote procedure call (RPC) scheme for the UU Interface. Entire system was implemented with C++ on Windows NT platforms. The implementation procedure has been decomposed ito two tasks. The first task is to implement the Naming Service for service navigation. The Naming Service is one of the CORBA Services that extend the core CORBA specification. A client GUI is implemented for easy navigation among various services. The second task is to construct multimedia server and client for a Video-on-Demand (VoD) system. MPEG-2 Transport Stream is transported via ATM AAL5 using the Windows Socket 2.2 ATM extension API. A GUI enables the user to navigate the service domain and select a program. After the selection the user can control the MPEG-2 stream with VCR-like buttons.

In this paper, a synchronized stream encryption system for secure link layer communication in a radio channel is designed. Interleaving scheme which is used to enhance the transmission performance over a fading channel is applied to the encrypted information. A designed synchronous scream cipher system consists of a keystream generator, a synchronization pattern generator and a session key generator. The structure of a synchronous stream cipher system with periodic synchronization is composed of the encrypted information which consists of a synchronization pattern, an error correcting coded session key, an encrypted data in a period of synchronization. In this paper, interleaving scheme using dynamic allocation a1gorithm(DAA) is applied the encrypted information. The BER of the DAA has been slightly higher than that of the SAA(static allocation algorithm).

Pattern matching is increasingly being employed in various researches as health care service, RFID-based system, facility management, and surveillance. Geosensor filter correlates a data stream to match specific patterns in distribution environments. In this paper, we present a geosensor query language to represent efficiently declarative geosensor query. Geosensor operators are proposed to use for fast query processing in terms of spatial and temporal area in distribution environments. We also propose a geosensor filter to match new query predicates into incoming stream predicates. Our filter can reduce the volume of transmission data and save power consumption of sensors. It can be utilized the stream data mining system to process in real-time various data as location, time, and geosensor information in distribution environments.

MPEG-2 transcoding scheme is proposed as scalable transmission system for a video-on-demand system is described. In this system video contents encoded by MPEG-2 are transmitted to receiver terminals via communication lines that have different bit rate. A transcoding technique that directly converts a bit stream encoded by MPEG-2 into a lower coding rate stream without decoding is proposed. The transcoder called Trampeg includes size reduction and frame drop approach. The experimental results show that an MPEG-2 stream of 0 Mbps is able to be transcoded into a stream of 1.5 Mbps-300 Kbps.

We have studied the effect of head of the line blocking (HOLB) on session initiation protocol (SIP) session establishment delays. Our results are based on experiments performed in a test bed and on the public Internet. We used the stream control transmission protocol (SCTP) as a transport for SIP because SCTP can be configured to suffer or to avoid HOLB. Our experiments show that the effect of HOLB on session establishment delays generally starts to be significant starting at fairly low packet loss rates. However, there are scenarios where network conditions are good enough to make the effect of HOLB insignificant.

In this paper, we propose an error-resilient transmission technique for the H.263 video data stream over wireless networks. The proposed algorithm employs bit rearrangement hierarchically, providing the robust and exact synchronization against the bit errors, without requiring extra redundant information. In addition, we propose the recovery algorithm for the lost or erroneous motion vectors. We implement the encoder and decoder, based on the H.263 standard, and evaluate the proposed algorithm through intensive computer simulation. The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed algorithm yields good image quality, in spite of the channel errors, and prevents the error propagation both in the spatial and the temporal domain efficiently.

In this paper, this paper, the stream cipher systems and the error propagation are analyzed. During the ciphertext transmission. for the error control of errors occurred in the channel, the DSEC(31, 27) RS codes will be used for bothe internal and external error controls for the self-synchromizing cipher system with ciphertext feedback.

Very low bit rate video coding uses the inter-picture video coding method for high compression. The inter-picture video coding is coded based on the information of the previous frames so any packet loss can lead to reduce the image quality on the transmission. In this paper, we proposed the multi-stream generation method for inter-media synchronization of very low bit rate video based on TCP for reliable transmission. The proposed approach performs a reliable transmission via a TCP based protocol. This method incorporates multi-streams in order to enhance the robustness of delivery and can withstand against network jitter. Moreover, the client bandwidths are fully utilized in a highly efficient way.

In this paper, we propose the method in which a stream of multimedia data simultaneously transfers to the main memory and the multimedia processor from the network interface card using a conventional system bus. The proposed method can reduce the input/output time of multimedia data and improve the data stream in the system bus. Also, we compared the number of system bus accesses, bus cycles and data transmission time to the number of participants between the proposed method and the conventional methods in the multi-party video conference systems. The comparison results of performance anticipate that the number of bus accesses of the proposed method was reduced by 50%, and the total transmission time was reduced by 75% as much as the conventional method regardless of the relation of the participant numbers.
