  • Recently, a rivers' bridge that locate on among the mountains area is destroyed by debris accumulation and debris flow, because of frequent occurrence of typhoon and a localized torrential downpour. therefore a river make a part of dam's effect. Actually, this situation gives damages like inundation of a bridge upper stream area's. Generally, It the main cause of the occurrence route of the debris accumulation is that outbreaks of driftwood and debris flow because of landslide, that occurred by severe rain storm. Also, a lot of debris are occurred when big flood come up during long period at this time, this kind of debris accumulation remove to other place, in several, and specially, debris accumlation move to the place where the depth of water is deep and velocity is fast river center. According to these kind of fact, this research put in effect and analyze that movement characteristic's numerical simulations of debris accumulation at flood according to a domestic outside literature investigation, on-site monitoring survey and parameter scenario which comes out through the hydraulic modeling analysis.

  • We investigated the flow properties of groundwater in areas of carbonate rocks at Yeongwol and Jeongseon, Gangwon Province, based on measurements of hydraulic conductivity. Existing hydraulic conductivity data were compiled from 46 wells in the study area. These wells were sunk close to Golji stream and the Joyang and Dong rivers, which flow through the study area. The hydraulic conductivities range from 0.004 to 1.1 m/day, and show a gradually decreasing trend with decreasing well depth (y=-0.003x - 0.927, $r^2$=0.129). The study area was classified into zone A (< 0.1 m/day), zone B (0.1-1.0 m/day), and zone C (> 1 m/day) according to hydraulic conductivity. Zones A, B, and C make up 87% (n = 40), 11 % (n = 5), and 2% (n = 2) of the surface of the study area, respectively. Among the three zones, zone A contains few fractures whereas zone C contains many fractures. These results indicate that groundwater flow in carbonate regions is strongly influenced by the fracture network.

  • This study was aimed to analyze the water quality characteristics of the Hwapocheon Stream and to be utilized in the further related research. Water in the upper stream became a dammed pool due to the existence of 14 weirs, and pollutants such as both sewage and irrigation water were introduced into the mainstream passing through farming settlements and agricultural land. For these reasons, filamentous cyanobacteria (Oscillatoria sp.) bloomed at the bottom of the dammed pool. Also in the midstream and downstream, tributaries with high pollutant concentrations [e.g., Comocheon (T3) and Yongdeokcheon (T8)] were inflowed, and had a negative impact on water quality of the mainstream, especially nitrogen and phosphorus. In the Hwapocheon Stream, dissolved oxygen (DO) decreased, and suspended solid (SS) increased toward the downstream. The result showed that hydraulic retention time, SS, COD, and concentration of $NH_4{^+}$ were important water quality factors of the Hwapocheon Stream. The high concentration of benthic organic matter and rich in attached algae in the core of Hwapo-wetland were expected to give impact on the water quality of the mainstream. In the spatial manner, water quality showed increasing trend in the weir zone, and it was constant or decreased trend in wetland. In the seasonal manner, the nutrient concentrations were high in the winter dry season, however, the organic matter concentrations were high in spring and summer. Generally, the concentrations of phytoplankton value were $40{\mu}g\;chl-{\alpha}/L$ or less in all reaches except for the high concentrations in the weir and wetland area in June.

  • In this study, the coastal urban flood prediction and warning system based on HEC-RAS and SWMM were investigated to evaluate a watershed of On-Cheon stream in Busan which has characteristics of costal area cased by flooding of coastal urban areas. The basis of this study is a selection of various geological data from the numerical map that is a watershed of On-Cheon stream and computation of hydrologic GIS data. Thiessen method was used for analyzing of rainfall on the On-Cheon stream and 6th regression equation, which is Huff's Type II was time-distribution of rainfall. To evaluate the deployment of flood prediction and warning system, risk depth was used on the 3 selected areas. To find the threshold runoff for hydraulic analysis of stream, HEC-RAS was used and flood depth and threshold runoff was considered with the effect of tidal water level. To estimate urban flash flood trigger rainfall, PCSWMM 2002 was introduced for hydrologic analysis. Consequently, not only were the criteria of coastal urban flood prediction and warning system decided on the watershed of On-Cheon stream, but also the deployment flow charts of flood prediction and warning system and operation system was evaluated. This study indicates the criteria of flood prediction and warning system on the coastal areas and modeling methods with application of ArcView GIS, HEC-RAS and SWMM on the basin. For the future, flood prediction and warning system should be considered and developed to various basin cases to reduce natural flood disasters in coastal urban area.

  • There are many long and round shape shores due to terrain characteristics in Daecheong reservoir. Therefore it is indicated different spatial distribution of algae every year since the stream is being regulated by these terrain characteristics and reservoir operation about inflow and outflow discharge. Also oversupply of nutrient salt from tributaries of Daecheong reservoir where pollutants were concentrated generates massive growth of algae and depending on hydrological, reservoir operation condition, those proliferated algae at the stagnant tributaries moves to the mainstream of Daecheong reservoir which could create problems of water quality. In this study, it was analyzed the tendency of algae generation by examining algae occurring status for the last 4 years since 2008, and implemented hydraulic analysis at Daecheong reservoir through numerical tracer simulation by applying 3-dimensional hydrodynamic model, ELCOM. Also it was implemented a quantitative analysis of causal relationship based on the algae generation tendency and hydraulic behavior at Daecheong reservoir. Through numerical tracer simulation in this study, it could be noticed the degree of spread of inflow indicated similar trend to the algae occurring status at Daecheong reservoir and verified the different tendency of algae generation in 2011 unlike previous year caused by the rise of water temperature.

  • In this study, the channel and floodplain widths are indirectly measured for three different watersheds using satellite images to reflect the shape of Korean channels in the Soil and Water Assessment Tool (SWAT) model. For measuring the channel and floodplain widths, multiple satellite images were referred to ensure the widest width of certain points. In the single channel, the widths at the multiple points were measured. Based on the measured data, the regression equations were derived to estimate the channel and floodplain widths according to watershed areas. Applying these developed equations, this study evaluated the effect of the change of channel and floodplain widths on the SWAT simulation by comparing to the measured streamflow data. The developed equations estimated larger channel width and smaller floodplain compared with those calculated in the current SWAT model. As shown in the results, there was no considerable changes in the predicted streamflow using the current and developed equations. However, the flow velocity and channel depth calculated from the developed equations were smaller than those of the current equations. The differences were caused by the effect of different channel geometries used for calculating the hydraulic characteristics. The channel geometries also affected the water quality simulation in channels because the hydraulic characteristics calculated by the channel geometries are directly related to the water quality simulation. Therefore, application of the river cross-sectional regression equation reflecting the domestic stream shape is necessary for accurate water quantity / quality and water ecosystem simulation using hydrological model.

  • The groundwater drawdown at each monitoring well near a radial collector well along Anseong Stream, Korea, was measured and compared with the calculated drawdown using the mirror well concept. The drawdown calculation is performed by treating the collector well as a large vertical well in a homogeneous isotropic aquifer. The measured drawdown at each monitoring well is slightly different from the calculated value due to anisotropy in the hydraulic conductivity and aquifer thickness. The difference between the measured and calculated values at Well OW-7 is large, reaching approximately 48 cm, because a horizontal well is not installed along this direction. Sensitivity analysis of the hydraulic conductivity and aquifer thickness indicates that the hydraulic conductivity is more sensitive to groundwater level changes. Groundwater level changes become a concern when a radial collector well with a large pumping rate capacity is installed, which highlights the need to thoroughly investigate the aquifer characteristics in the surrounding area.

  • The estimation of PMP (Probable Maximum Precipitation) and the analysis of characteristics of PMF (Probable Maximum Flood) according to the types of time distribution of rainfall and variations of base flow for the determination of design flood of major hydraulic structures in the watershed area of Wi stream were analysed. The PMP was estimated by the hydro-meteorological method suggested by the guideline of the World Meteorological Organization(WMO). The Blocking method was cited to transpose from PMP to PMS (Probable Maximum Storm) with time distribution. The unit hydrograph, applied for the estimation of PMF was derived by Clark's method. The summaryzed results : (1) The 72 hrs duration PMP in the area is 477.3mm which is 80mm less than the PMP map in Korea and 134 mm lager than the maximum precipitation of 342.9mm in Taegu, near the Wi stream watershed. (2) According to the types of time distribution and variations of base flow, the ranges of PMF for advanced type, central type and delayed type are 3,145.3~3,348.3cms, 3,774.6~3,977.7cms and 3,814.6~4,017.3cms, respectively. Those mean that peak discharge of advanced type is 600cms less than the central type and delayed type. (3) Delayed type among three types by Blocking method has been estimated the largest PMF of 4,017.3cms, and the advanced type has been estimated the smallest PMF of 3,145.3cms. The mean value of the peak PMF of 3,653.6cms may probably be resonable PMF in the Wi stream watershed. The mean PMF could probably be 1.7 times lager than the result of Gajiyama's equation. It is equivalent to the flood of return period 1,000 to 10,000 yrs.

  • In this paper, the reasons of damages and the case study are review in which bridge pier with debris accumulation, and safety Influence factors by debris around the bridge piers are review. Also experiment Is conducted for the characteristic of flow around piers by different area and angle of debris and the basic characteristics was review for safe design of bridge and embankments. As result of review of several standards of design, hydraulic structure's freeboard is simply decided by discharge, so it needs more detail standards. And as result of experiment, in the case of that water depth is deep and velocity is slow, variation of water depth Is more increase as increasing of debris. Therefore the variation regime of flow characteristics like velocity and water depth by debris is more large in the stream of small or medium size, which streams have large water depth and slow velocity so Froude Number Is expressed as small in the flood. Also when Froude Number is about 0.5, the water elevation is over freeboard in the standard if the debris over 20%. Therefore when hydraulic structure is constructed in the stream of small or medium size, it need to conduct more detail experiments about influence of debris, distribution of velocity and variation of elevation, and than the more safe freeboard will be presented using the experimental results.

  • In order to investigate the hydraulic characteristics of a boundary layer streaming over the beach cusps appeared in swells prevailing mild seas, we numerically simulated the shoaling process of Edge waves over the beach cusp. Synchronous Edge waves known to sustain the beach cusps could successfully be duplicated by generating two obliquely colliding Edge waves in front of beach cusps. The amplitude AB and length LB of Beach Cusp were elected to be 1.25 m and 18 m, respectively based on the measured data along the Mang-Bang beach. Numerical results show that boundary layer streaming was formed at every phase of shoaling process without exception, and the maximum boundary layer streaming was observed to occur at the crest of sand bar. In RUN 1 where the shortest waves were deployed, the maximum boundary layer streaming was observed to be around 0.32 m/s, which far exceeds the amplitude of free stream by two times. It is also noted that the maximum boundary layer streaming mentioned above greatly differs from the analytical solution by Longuet-Higgins (1957) based on wave Reynolds stress. In doing so, we also identify the recovery procedure of natural beaches in swells prevailing mild seas, which can be summarized such as: as the infra-gravity waves formed in swells by the resonance wave-wave interaction arrives near the breaking line, the sediments ascending near the free surface by the Phase II waves orbital motion were carried toward the pinnacle of foreshore by the shoreward flow commenced at the steep front of breaking waves, and were deposited near the pinnacle of foreshore due to the infiltration.
