The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship between nurslng students' self-differentiation, their stress level and stress coping strategies. And following research questions were established. First, what is the difference of the stress level depending on the self-differentiation? Second, what is the difference of stress coping strategies in accordance with the self-differentiation? Participants for this study were 159 students selected from the 1st grades of G University, located in Incheon Metropolitan city. SPSS 10.0 statistic program was taken for drawing its frequency, percentage, average and standard deviation. And t-test, F-test, correlation and multiple regression were conducted. The results are summarized as follows: 1. The mean score for the level of self- differentiation, level of stress, level of stress coping strategies were 3.59, 2.50, 3.35. 2. The relationship between self-differentiation and stress level revealed a negative significant correlation 3. The relationship between self-differentiation and stress coping strategies revealed a no significant correlation. 4. The relationship between stress level and stress coping strategies revealed a no significant correlation. Conclusion: The results of investigating the variation differences depending on stress level, self-differentiation, and stress coping strategies were revealed self-differentiation and stress coping strategies explained stress level by 28.6%.
This study investigated 3- and 5-year-old preschoolers' stress coping strategies depending on tasks, and whether preschoolers' stress coping strategies in each task depended on their temperament types. Subjects were 96 3- and 5-year-old preschoolers selected from three day-care centers in Seoul, Kounggi. A Parent Temperament Questionnaire for preschooler was used, and the coping strategies which each preschooler showed in task with perceived controllable, task with perceived uncontrollable were recorded by a video camera. Preschoolers' stress coping strategies recorded by a video camera were transcribed and analyzed according to the categories the researcher generated. Data were analyzed by paired t-tests and t-tests. As a results, there was a significant differences in preschoolers' stress coping strategies depending on the tasks and a significant temperament type difference in the preschoolers' stress coping strategies in each task.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the moderated effects of coping strategies in the relationship between life stress and psychological well-being in university students. Methods: Self-report questionnaires were used to collect the data from 278 university students. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, pearson correlation coefficient and hierarchial multiple regression. Results: Psychological well-being is negatively associated with life stress and avoidance coping, and positively associated with problem solving coping. Results showed that there were significant moderated effects of coping strategies in the relationship between life stress and psychological well-being. Under high life stress levels with high problem solving coping and low avoidance coping, there was a high level of psychological well-being. Moreover, life stress and coping strategies interacted well with each other to affect psychological well-being. A negative correlation between life stress and psychological well-being was remarkable for the high problem solving coping group and high avoidance coping group. Conclusion: The study results suggest that in order to improve psychological well-being, it is necessary to provide intervention programs to promote problem solving coping and to reduce the avoidance coping for university students.
This study examined whether specific coping strategies for the university entrance examination stress are related to high school seniors' depression and whether these strategies moderate the relationship between additional life event stress and depression. A sample of 358 high school seniors reported their level of additional life event stress, coping strategies they were using to handle examination stress, and their levels of depression. Problem-focused coping strategies and affective-regulation coping strategies were found to be related to reduction in depression. And, coping with examination stress was found to be related to depression independent of the level of additional life event stress.
The purpose of this study was to gain an understanding about urban housewives' stress in family financial management, their coping strategies, and their sense of economic well-being, which will eventually provide some baseline data for policy development. The findings of this study are summarized in the following. First, the mean score of the level of financial management-related stress among urban housewives was 2.61 when the maximum level was set at 5. In order to overcome the stress from financial management, housewives utilized various strategies, such as purchasing management, financial planning, financial information gathering, getting a loan, and delaying payments. The average level of economic well-being among urban housewives was 2.82 when the maximum level was 5. Second, among socio-demographic factors, the family's monthly income and the husband's job satisfaction were the two most significant factors that affected the level of financial management stress among housewives. Third, there was a difference in employing coping strategies according to the level of stress. The group with a higher level of financial stress employed more coping strategies than the group with, a lower level of stress. Fourth, there were differences in the level of economic well-being, depending on the types of coping strategies employed. Fifth, the results from regression analyses, which were conducted to determine the relative explanatory power of different independent variable groups including subjective factors, financial management stress, and coping strategies, showed that socio-demographic and objective economic factors significantly affected economic well-being.
The strategies used by 274 $4^{th}$ and $6^{th}$ graders for coping with stress were assessed by the Daily Hassles Coping Scale(Min & Yoo, 1998), and their behavior problems were assayed by their mothers with the Korean version of Achenbach's Child Behavior Check List(Oh, Lee, Hong, & Ha, 1997). Data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, 2-way ANOVA, and hierarchical regressions. Findings were that girls used more passive/avoidant coping strategies than boys; $6^{th}$ graders used more passive/avoidant coping strategies than $4^{th}$ graders; $6^{th}$ grade boys had more internalized behavior problems than $4^{th}$ grade boys; $4^{th}$ grade girls had more internalized behavior problems than $6^{th}$ grade girls; passive/avoidant strategies were positively related to internalized behavior; aggressive strategies were positively related to externalized behavior; strategies of seeking social support were negatively related to both internalized and externalized behavior problems.
By extracting the variables related to the work stress generated from dental hygiene, identifying their relationships, this study aims to contribute to academic progress on work stress. The test results of this study are as follows for each hypothesis: 1. Among the work stress sensing factors, role ambiguity showed correlation to the active coping strategy and the passive coping strategy, whereas it did not have any correlation to the evasive reation. However, the physical resource environmental factor showed correlation to the active coping strategy, whereas it did not have any correlation to the other reation. 2. The passive coping strategy, among the work stress coping strategies, influences the role ambiguity, B type, work ambiguity, physical resource environmental factor by about 18.7%. 3. The active coping strategy, among the work stress coping strategies, influences the social support, role ambiguity, work place of health center factor by about 18.9%. 4. The evasive reaction, among the work stress coping strategies, was influenced by only the 36 years old over factor by approximately 4.2%. 5. It was found in all work stress sensing factors that the group with lower social support had a more degree of experiencing stress than the group with higher social support. In case of the behavior pattern, the type A experienced more stress than the type B only in role ambiguity. 6. It was found that the group with the higher social support tended to choose more active coping strategy than the lower social support. In case of behavior pattern, the type B coped more actively than type A in the passive coping strategy.
Purpose: This study examined relationships among stress, stress coping strategies, and somatization in mothers-in-law from multi-cultural families in a rural area. Methods: Elderly mothers-in-law (n=227) living with foreign daughters-in-law completed a self-reporting questionnaire. Data were collected from April to August 2009. Questions related to stress (Visual Analog Scale, VAS), coping strategies (Coping Strategy Scale) for stress, and somatization (Symptom Check List 90, Revised). SPSS/WIN 12.0 program was used for descriptive analysis, t-test, one-way ANOVA, Pearson correlation, and multiple regression analyses. Results: Subjects had a moderate level of stress (5.03). There were significant differences in stress level according to age, educational level, religion, chronic disease, health status, number of children, agreement of an international marriage of her sons, satisfaction in living with a foreign daughter-in-law, and family conflict. Stress showed a significant positive correlation with offensive coping strategy, passive strategy, and somatization. Stress, offensive coping strategy, and passive coping strategy affected the level of somatization. Conclusion: In a family situation involving co-habitation of mother- and foreign daughter-in-law, increased stress experienced by the mother-in-law can lead to increased offensive and passive coping strategies, and increased somatization. More effective means of stress reduction are needed for mothers-in-law from multi-cultural families.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to explore the stress-coping process used by elderly people. Method: This study was based on the grounded theory methodology of Strauss & Corbin. The participants were 15 elders selected by theoretical sampling. Over a period of 3 months, in-depth interviews using audiotape recording were used to collect the data. The data were analyzed simultaneously by a constant comparative method in which new data were continuously coded in categories and properties according to Strauss and Corbin's methodology, Result: Stress in elderly people is caused by illness, family conflict, and loss of economic power. Stress occurred in connection with aging and limitation of social activity. The central incidents for stress were fear, alienation and anxiety. It was found that action/interactional strategies of stress-coping behavior were related to social support and mobility disorders. Action/interactional strategies to stress-coping in elderly people were dependent on medical treatment, mind control, participation of social activity, and renunciation of offensive behavior. Stress-coping in elderly people resulted in stability or instability in body and mind. Conclusion: It is suggested that the results of this study may contribute to the development stress-coping strategies for elderly people. There is need to develop social support systems and a positive environment to avoid negative coping strategies.
This study investigated the relationships between stress-coping strategies and the mental health of college students from health related and non-health related departments by developing an efficient managerial indicator using student lifestyle guidance and employment guidance. Results indicated that there are differences in stress factors between general characteristics and departments. Hope management was used the most for stress-coping strategies for health related departmental students and emotional management was used the most for stress-coping strategies for non-health related departmental students. Compulsion scored high for health related departmental students in regards to mental health while fear and hostility scored high for non-health related departmental students. Results also showed that active stress-coping strategies and paranoia were negatively correlated, while passive stress-coping strategies and many mental health substructure were positively correlated. In conclusion, negative influences on mental health is the reason for instances where stress-coping strategies were not pertinent. Therefore colleges and professors should consider developing a program which can appropriately manage and regulate college students stress and thereby allow students to actively participate with benefits from college lifestyle guidance and employment guidance.
