  • Strain hardening behavior during hydroforming has been experimentally investigated. The variation of flow stress was used as an index of strain hardening during respective processes and the flow stress was estimated from the correlationship between flow stress and effective strain. The local hardness after hydroformig was also predicted by effective strain. By using the inter-relationships between hardness-flow stress-effective strain at variable pre-strains, the strain hardening behavior during hydroforming has been successfully analyzed. The comparison of predicted hardness with measured hardness confirmed that the methodology used in this study was feasible and the strain hardening behavior can be quantitatively estimated.

  • Mechanical properties such as Young's modulus and hardness of thin film in coated steel are difficult to determine by nano-indentation from the conventional analysis using the load-displacement curve. Therefore, an analysis of the nano-indentation loading curve was used to determine the Young's modulus, hardness and strain hardening exponent. A new method is recently being developed for plasticity properties of materials from nano-indentation. Elastic modulus of the thin films shows relatively small influence whereas yield strength and strain hardening are found to have significant effect on measured data. The load-displacement behavior of material tested with a Berkovich indenter and nano-indentation continuous stiffness method is used to measure the modulus and hardness through thin films.

  • The hardening and the constitutive equation based on the crystal plasticity are introduced for the numerical simulation of hemispherical sheet metal forming. For calculating the deformation and the stress of the crystal, Taylor's model of the crystalline aggregate is employed. The hardening is evaluated by using the Taylor factor, the critical resolved shear stress of the slip system, and the sum of the crystallographic shears. During the hemispherical forming process, the texture of the sheet metal is evolved by the plastic deformation of the crystal. By calculating the Euler angles of the BCC sheet, the texture evolution of the sheet is traced during the forming process. Deformation texture of the BCC sheet is represented by using the pole figure. The comparison of the strain distribution and punch force in the hemispherical forming process between the prediction using crystal plasticity and experiment shows the verification of the crystal plasticity-based formulation and the accuracy of the hardening and constitutive equation obtained from the crystal plasticity.

  • Based upon the experimental data from multi-stage tensile loading at angles to the rolling direction of steel sheets, anisotropic hardening rules are proposed. Experiments show that orthotropic anisotropy is maintained and the orientations of orthotropy axes are changed during tensile loading. A phenomenological model is proposed which includes the rotations of orthotropy axes, work hardening and kinematic hardening. Using the model, uniaxial tensile stress, R-value and tensile necking strain are predicted and compared with the experimental data.

  • In the present study, AZ31B sheets has a bad formability in room temperature, but the formability is improved significantly as increasing the temperature because of rolled magnesium alloy sheet has a hexagonal closed packed structure (HCP) and a plastic anisotropy. In this paper, after tensile test in various temperatures, strain rate, show the tensile mechanical properties, yield and ultimate strength, K-value, work hardening exponent(n), strain rate sensitivity(m). As temperature increased, yield, ultimate strength and K-value, work hardening exponent(n) are decreased but strain rate sensitivity(m) is increased. As cross-head-speed increased, yield, ultimate strength and K-value, work hardening exponent(n) are increased. And according to the temperature, how change the plastic anisotropy factor R. In addition, we observed how temperatures and cross-head-speed effect on microstructure.

  • The ring compression test has been widely employed as an experimental means to determine the friction factor. The calibration curves are obtained by the rigid-plastic finite element analysis for various work-hardening exponent and strain-rate hardening exponent. The effects of work-hardening exponent and strain-rate hardening exponent are thoroughly studied and discussed from the finite element computation. The change of friction factor during height reduction in ring compression is also discussed. Then, the method to estimate the change of friction factor during ring compression is proposed.

  • The sheet perforated with a uniform triangular pattern of round holes and subjected to in-plane stress f arbitrary biaxiality was investigated. The equivalent continuum approach was employed to develop a theoretical model for global analysis, which includes defining a yield criterion and the strain hardening in terms of apparent stresses and apparent strains. Finit element analysis and experiment tension test were performed to examine the validity of proposed yield criterion and strain hardening models of perforated sheets.

  • A new simple method to determined the die shape using a streamline in extrusion is presented. This method assumes that a billet deforms naturally to minimize the energy input for the given process condition. Then an optimal die shape can be determined along a streamline. Extrusion operations with two types of materials strain-hardening material and strain-rate hardening material are examined using this method. Prediction with the proposed method are compared with those by the previous optimizing model to show its efficiency.

  • Numerous experimental investigations on metallic materials and solid polymers have shown that relaxation behavior is nonlinearly dependent on prior strain rate. The stress drops in a constant time interval nonlinearly increase with an increase of prior strain rate. And the relaxed stress associated with the fastest prior strain rate has the smallest stress magnitude at the end of relaxation periods. This paper deals with the performance of three classes of unified constitutive models in predicting the characteristic behaviors of relaxation. The three classes of models are categorized by a rate sensitivity of kinematic hardening rule. The first class uses rate-independent kinematic hardening rule that includes the competing effect of strain hardening and dynamic recovery. In the second class, a stress rate term is incorporated into the rate-independent kinematic hardening rule. The final one uses a rate-dependent format of kinematic hardening rule.
