Seismic collapse safety of high-rise RC moment frames supported on two ground levels

  • Reinforced concrete (RC) moment frames supported on two ground levels have been widely constructed in mountainous areas with medium to high seismicity in China. In order to investigate the seismic collapse behavior and risk, a scaled frame model was tested under constant axial load and reversed cyclic lateral load. Test results show that the failure can be induced by the development of story yielding at the first story above the upper ground. The strong column and weak beam mechanism can be well realized at stories below the upper ground. Numerical analysis model was developed and calibrated with the test results. Three pairs of six case study buildings considering various structural configurations were designed and analyzed, showing similar dynamic characteristics between frames on two ground levels and flat ground of each pair. Incremental dynamic analyses (IDA) were then conducted to obtain the seismic collapse fragility curves and collapse margin ratios of nine analysis cases designated based on the case study buildings, considering amplification of earthquake effect and strengthening measures. Analysis results indicate that the seismic collapse safety is mainly determined by the stories above the upper ground. The most probable collapse mechanism may be induced by the story yielding of the bottom story on the upper ground level. The use of tie beam and column strengthening can effectively enhance the seismic collapse safety of frames on two ground levels.

영문학 작품을 기반으로 둔 스토리 DB의 필요성 연구: 모티프 추출 방안을 중심으로 (A Study on the Development of a Story Database Based on English Literature: Focus on Motif Extracting)

  • 본 논문은 서사 창작에 도움을 제공하기 위해서 영문학 작품 기반으로 스토리 DB를 구축해야 하는 필요성과 개발방안의 특성을 탐색하고자 한다. 보다 구체적으로는 영문학 고전으로 알려져 있는 윌리엄 셰익스피어의 작품 <햄릿(Hamlet)>을 예시로 두고 모티프 기반으로 서사의 구성요소간의 관계를 논리적으로 구조화시키기 위한 방안을 제안하였다. 영문학 작품의 특정 텍스트에서 서사의 최소 단위 모티프 데이터를 추출한 후에 내부적으로 데이터를 연결하면서 서사 창작자에게 도움을 제공할 수 있는 스토리 DB의 절차적 개발 틀을 제시하고자 한다. 이와 같은 연구가 축적되면 앞으로 양질의 스토리텔링 콘텐츠가 해외 문학작품 기반으로 (재)생산될 수 있는 기반이 조성될 뿐 아니라 영미문학 작품 역시 보다 대중적인 콘텐츠로 학제간 연구자들에게 노출될 수 있을 것이다.

합성반강접 접합부를 갖는 2차원 8층 비가새 철골골조의 동적거동 (Dynamic Behavior of 2D 8-Story Unbraced Steel Frame with Partially Restrained Composite Connection)

  • 구조물의 지진응답은 구조물의 강성도에 영향을 미치는 접합부의 특성에 영향을 받는다. 본 연구에서는 합성반강접 접합부를 갖는 2차원 8층 비가새 철골구조물에 대하여 동적 비선형 해석 프로그램을 이용한 푸쉬오버 해석과 시간이력해석을 실시하여 구조물의 거동을 예측하였다. 접합부 비선형 모멘트-회전 특성, 합성보 및 철골기둥의 재료 비선형 특성을 고려하여 구조해석을 실시하였다. 합성반강접 접합부를 완전 강접합부로 이상화하면 푸쉬오버 해석에서 구조물의 초기강성도와 종국강도가 증가되었고 시간이력해석에서는 밑면전단력, 최대층간변위, 보 및 기둥에 발생되는 최대 휨모멘트가 접합부 강성 및 이력거동의 영향을 받았다. 최대지반가속도가 0.4g인 지진파에 대하여 합성반강접 구조물에서는 FEMA 273의 최대 층간변위에 대한 인명손상방지 기준을 만족하였으며 보와 기둥이 비탄성 거동을 경험하지 않은 반면 완전 강접합부로 이상화한 구조물에서는 보 및 기둥이 비탄성 거동을 경험하였다.

1/3축소 3층 삼환까뮤 P.C 모델의 진동대 실험 (Shaking Table Test of 1/3-Scale 3-Story Sam-Hwan Camus Precast Concrete Model)

  • The objective of the research stated here was aimed at providing the information needed to establish the Korean Seismic Design Code Recommendations and Guides for precast concrete (P.C) large panel apartment buildings. This was accomplished by investigation and analysis of the response of P.C large panel structures subjected to shaking table excitation simulating earthquake ground motion. one of the test specimens used was 1/3-scaled 3-story box P.C model provided by Sam-Hwan Camus Corporation. The 4m $\times$4m shaking table was used to simulate the earthquake ground motion. the employed input accelerogram was the one recorded as Taft N21E component and the peak ground acceleration(PGA) was scaled depending on the desired level of seismic severity and the time according to dynamic similitude rule. Based on results obtained from shaking table test of this P.C model, the following conclusions were drawn . (1) As far as test specimen is concerned, the seismic safety factors turns out to be 7~8. (2)P.C model has damping ratio of about8% which is twice larger than in-situ R.C. structure. And (3)this model has global displacement ductility ratio of 2~3 through the energy dissipation by opening and sliding of joints.

유연한 지붕으로 된 단층 구조물의 지진 거동과 성능 분석 (Seismic Behavior and Performance Assesment of a One-story Building with a Flexible Diaphragm)

  • 본 논문에서는 단순화 다자유도 모델링 방법을 이용하여 유연한 지붕을 갖는 l/2 축소 단층 보강조적조 건물의 지진 거동을 분석하였다. 선형 및 비선형 해석에 의한 결과들은 l/2 축소모형 단층 건물의 진동대 실험결과와 비교ㆍ분석되었다. 정확한 면내 및 면외 강성과 강도를 산정할 적절한 방법이 없기 때문에 구조모델 보정방법을 적용하여 반복적인 비교 ·분석 과정에서 각 부재의 강성과 강도변화에 따른 민감도를 평가하였다. 보정된 구조물의 특성을 사용하여 구조 재해석을 수행하였으며, 지붕구조물의 유연성이 전체 건물의 동적 거동에 미치는 영향을 분석하였다. 유연한 지붕은 전단벽의 면외 강성과 강도에 많은 영향을 미치게 되며, 강체 지붕과는 확연히 구분되는 동적 거동을 보여주었다.

Hybrid simulation tests of high-strength steel composite K-eccentrically braced frames with spatial substructure

  • Based on the spatial substructure hybrid simulation test (SHST) method, the seismic performance of a high-strength steel composite K-eccentrically braced frame (K-HSS-EBF) structure system is studied. First, on the basis of the existing pseudostatic experiments, a numerical model corresponding to the experimental model was established using OpenSees, which mainly simulated the shear effect of the shear links. A three-story and five-span spatial K-HSS-EBF was taken as the prototype, and SHST was performed with a half-scale SHST model. According to the test results, the validity of the SHST model was verified, and the main seismic performance indexes of the experimental substructure under different seismic waves were studied. The results show that the hybrid simulation results are basically consistent with the numerical simulation results of the global structure. The deformation of each story is mainly concentrated in the web of the shear link owing to shear deformation. The maximum interstory drifts of the model structure during Strength Level Earthquake (SLE) and Maximum Considered Earthquake (MCE) meet the demands of interstory limitations in the Chinese seismic design code of buildings. In conclusion, the seismic response characteristics of the K-HSS-EBFs are successfully simulated using the spatial SHST, which shows that the K-HSS-EBFs have good seismic performance.

면진된 실대형 일경간-이층 철골조 자유진동 실험 (Free Vibration Test for Base Isolated Real Size One Bay-Two Story Steel Frame)

  • To evaluate the seismic performance of a base isolated building accurate analytical model should be selected. The analytical results such as reduced accelerations member forces and relative displacements of the superstructure of the base isolated building are only meaningful when the analytical model is close enough to the real structure. Real size one bay-two story steel frame and two kinds of seismic isolators(laminated elastomeric bearing and lead-rubber bearing) are designed. manufactured and constructed in the laboratory. Free vibration tests using fuse bars were conducted to evaluate the change of dynamic characteristics(period and damping) before and after base isolation of the steel frame. The experimental results of free vibration tests were also used as a bench mark for adjusting the selected analytical modeling to real base isolated steel frame.

  • The severe shortage of the available sites in the highly developed downtown area in Korea necessitates the construction of high-rise buildings which meet the need of residence and commercial activity simultaneously. The objective of this study is to investigate the seismic performance of this type of building structures. For this purpose, two 1:12 scale 17-story reinforced concrete model structures were constructed according to the similitude law, in which the upper 15 stories have a bearing-wall system while the lower 2-story frames with infilled shear wall have two different layouts of the plan : The one has symmetric plan and the other has unsymmetric plan. Then, this model was subjected to a series of earthquake excitations. The test results show that the layout of shear wall has the negligible effect on the natural period and the base shear coefficient, but great effect on the failure mode of beam-column joint at flexible side frame.

Then, this model was subjected to a series of earthquake excitations. The test results show that the existence of shear wall reduced the shear deformation at the piloti frame, but has almost the negligible effect on the reduction of the overturning-moment angle.

Design of steel moment frames considering progressive collapse

  • In this study the progressive collapse potential of three- and nine-story special steel moment frames designed in accordance with current design code was evaluated by nonlinear static and dynamic analyses. It was observed that the model structures had high potential for progressive collapse when a first story column was suddenly removed. Then the size of beams required to satisfy the failure criteria for progressive collapse was obtained by the virtual work method; i.e., using the equilibrium of the external work done by gravity load due to loss of a column and the internal work done by plastic rotation of beams. According to the nonlinear dynamic analysis results, the model structures designed only for normal load turned out to have strong potential for progressive collapse whereas the structures designed by plastic design concept for progressive collapse satisfied the failure criterion recommended by the GSA guideline.
