Effect of Light Quality on Shape and Greening of Selling Mungbean Sprouts (판매용 숙주나물의 형태(形態) 및 녹화(綠化)에 미치는 광질의 효과)

  • Storage conditions of selling mungbean sprouts should affect their marketability. The study was done to examine the effect of light quality (blue, green, yellow, red, far-red) on greening period, shape, fresh and dry weights of mungbean (cv. Zhong Lu 1) sprouts for 5 days to get some information on designing their various polyethylene envelops with different colors. Periods taking to green were 2 to 3.5 days in blue, red and far-red lights but longer than 6 days in green and yellow lights. Yellow lights had the longest total length adding hypocotyl and root, and blue light did the widest hypocotyl diameter while all light treatments showed similar lateral roots for the period. Total fresh and dry weights were the highest in red light but the least in far-red light. Their lengths and weights in green and yellow lights showing the longest periods for their greening declined with increased storage periods but showed no difference between them, meaning that the envelops should be designed mainly by green and yellow colors.

Bio-Green' Functional Water Supply Influences Mineral Uptake and Fruit Quality In Tsugaru Apples (‘바이오 그린’ 기능수 처리가 사과 쓰가루 품종의 무기성분 흡수와 과실품질에 미치는 영향)

  • Commercial Bio- Green(B.G.) functional water was manufactured through a series of processes : water - ultra-purification - adding catalysts - energy imprinting fermenting with energized water + zeolite and others + photosynthetic bacteria in fermenter longrightarrow filtering. Control(0), 5 or 10 liters per plant of B.G. functional water were supplied to the orchard soil under canopy of 10 year- old ‘Tsugaru’/M26 apple trees on March 20, May 20 and June 20, 1995, respectively. pH and content of Ca and Mg of orchard soil were increased by supply with B.G. functional water. However, P$_2$ $O_{5}$, K, and B contents were not influenced by the treatment. At harvest time soluble solid content of flesh tissue and anthocyanin of fruit skin were increased by the treatment. B.G functional water treatment showed higher root activities, and photosynthesis of leaves than that of control. Also B.G. functional water treatment enhanced Ca content in fruit skin and flesh tissues, whereas not affected N, K, and Mg contents. During storage at 4$^{\circ}C$ cold room, the more volume of B.G. functional water supply showed lower bitter pit symptom. Respiration and ethylene evolution in fruit decreased, while fruit firmness increased by the treatment during storage.

  • The SLODSVAT consists of interrelated submodels that simulate : the transfer of radiation, water vapour, sensible heat, carbon dioxide and momentum in two canopy layers determined by environmental conditions and ecophysiological properties of the vegetation ; uptake and storage of water in the "root-stem-leaf" system of plants ; interception of rainfall by the canopy layers and infiltration and storage of rain water in the four soil layers. A comparison of the results of modeling experiments and field micro-climatic observations in a spruce forest(Picea abies [L].Karst) in the Soiling hills(Germany) shows, that the SLODSVAT can describe and simulate the short-term(diurnal) as well as the long-term(seasonal) variability of water vapour and sensible heat fluxes adequately to natural processes under different environmental conditions. It proves that it is possible to estimate and predict the transpiration and evapotranspiration rates for spruce forest ecosystems on the patch and landscape scales for one vegetation period, if certain meteorological, botanical and hydrological information for the structure of the atmospheric boundary layer, the canopy and the soil are available.

Browning inhibition of fresh-cut lotus roots by blanching in Glycyrrhiza glabra L. and Astragalus membranaceus Bunge extracts (감초, 황기 추출물로 블랜칭 처리한 신선편이 연근의 갈변 억제)

  • This study was conducted to inhibit the browning of fresh-cut lotus roots by blanching in a Glycyrrhiza glabra L. and Astragalus membranaceus Bunge extract solution (0.5%). Lotus roots were cut to 1 cm using a knife. The fresh-cut lotus roots were blanched at $50^{\circ}C$ in distilled water (DW, Cont), Glycyrrhiza glabra L. extract solution (GE), and Astragalus membranaceus Bunge extract solution (AE). After treatment, they were packaged with 0.04 mm PE bags and were stored at $10^{\circ}C$ for 12 days. Their color, hardness, DPPH radical scavenging activity, pH, and total soluble solids were then investigated. During storage, the samples treated with GE and AE had high $L^*$ values. They were also found to have higher values compared to the control group in the analysis of the browning index. No difference was found, however, in the hardness analysis. With regard to the DPPH radical scavenging activity, the sample treated with Glycyrrhiza glabra L. extract had the highest activity. In the pH analysis, all the groups were found to have a decrease tendency for all the storage periods. The total soluble solids decreased in the control group and slightly increased in the AE and GE groups. These results show that blanching in Glycyrrhiza glabra L. or Astragalus membranaceus Bunge extract is effective for preventing the browning of fresh-cut lotus roots.

Optimal Design of Generalized Process-storage Network Applicable To Polymer Processes (고분자 공정에 적용할 수 있는 일반화된 공정-저장조 망구조 최적설계)

  • The periodic square wave (PSW) model was successfully applied to the optimal design of a batch-storage network. The network structure can cover any type of batch production, distribution and inventory system, including recycle streams. Here we extend the coverage of the PSW model to multitasking semi-continuous processes as well as pure continuous and batch processes. In previous solutions obtained using the PSW model, the feedstock composition and product yield were treated as known constants. This constraint is relaxed in the present work, which treats the feedstock composition and product yield as free variables to be optimized. This modification makes it possible to deal with the pooling problem commonly encountered in oil refinery processes. Despite the greater complexity that arises when the feedstock composition and product yield are free variables, the PSW model still gives analytic lot sizing equations. The ability of the proposed method to determine the optimal plant design is demonstrated through the example of a high density polyethylene (HDPE) plant. Based on the analytical optimality results, we propose a practical process optimality measure that can be used for any kind of process. This measure facilitates direct comparison of the performance of multiple processes, and hence is a useful tool for diagnosing the status of process systems. The result that the cost of a process is proportional to the square root of average flow rate is similar to the well-known six-tenths factor rule in plant design.

Storage and Retrieval of XML Documents Without Redundant Path Information (경로정보의 중복을 제거한 XML 문서의 저장 및 질의처리 기법)

  • This Paper Proposes an approach that removes the redundancy of Path information and uses an inverted index, as an efficient way to store a large volume of XML documents and to retrieve wanted information from there. An XML document is decomposed into nodes based on its tree structure, and stored in relational tables according to the node type, with path information from the root to each node. The existing methods using path information store data for all element paths, which cause retrieval performance to be decreased with increased data volume. Our approach stores only data for leaf element path excluding internal element paths. As the inverted index is made by the leaf element path only, the number of posting lists by key words become smaller than those of the existing methods. For the storage and retrieval of U data, our approach doesn't require the XML schema information of XML documents and any extension of relational database. We demonstrate the better performance of on approach than the existing approaches within the scope of our experiment.

Predictive Model for Growth of Staphylococcus aureus in Suyuk (수육에서의 Staphylococcus aureus 성장 예측모델)

  • Cooked pork can be easily contaminated with Staphylococcus aureus during carriage and serving after cooking. This study was performed to develop growth prediction models of S. aureus to assure the safety of cooked pork. The Baranyi and Gompertz primary predictive models were compared. These growth models for S. aureus in cooked pork were developed at storage temperatures of 5, 15, and $25^{\circ}C$. The specific growth rate (SGR) and lag time (LT) values were calculated. The Baranyi model, which displayed a $R^2$ of 0.98 and root mean square error (RMSE) of 0.27, was more compatible than the Gompertz model, which displayed 0.84 in both $R^2$ and RMSE. The Baranyi model was used to develop a response surface secondary model to indicate changes of LT and SGR values according to storage temperature. The compatibility of the developed model was confirmed by calculating $R^2$, $B_f$, $A_f$, and RMSE values as statistic parameters. At 5, 15 and $25^{\circ}C$, $R^2$ was 0.88, 0.99 and 0.99; RMSE was 0.11, 0.24 and 0.10; $B_f$ was 1.12, 1.02 and 1.03; and $A_f$ was 1.17, 1.03 and 1.03, respectively. The developed predictive growth model is suitable to predict the growth of S. aureus in cooked pork, and so has potential in the microbial risk assessment as an input value or model.

Effects of Various Packaging Materials on the Quality of Heat Treated Lotus Roots during Storage (포장재질에 따른 열처리한 연근의 저장 중 품질변화)

  • This study was investigated the changes in quality of heat treated fresh-cut lotus roots using various packaging materials. Lotus roots were purchased from Daegu, Korea. Lotus roots were washed, peeled and sliced with a sharp ceramic knife. The prepared peeled and sliced lotus roots were dipped for 45 sec in water at $55^{\circ}C$. After air-dried at room temperature, the slices were packaged with polyethylene films, polyethylene terephthalate tray+wrapping, vacuum packaging and then stored at $4^{\circ}C$. Changes in weight loss, color, firmness, microorganisms and sensory characteristics were measured. In general, the weight loss rate was increased slightly in vacuum packaged lotus roots. Application of heat treatment delayed browning of lotus roots, and especially vacuum packaged lotus roots were the most lowest ${\Delta}E$ value. However, L and ${\Delta}E$ value of PE film packaged lotus roots were increased highly during storage. The heat treated and vacuum packaging inhibited the growth of microorganisms effectively. The organoleptic quality of vacuum packaged lotus roots showed the best by sensory evaluation.

Development of a Basic Wood Density for Carbon Accounting in Bamboo Forests (대나무 탄소계정을 위한 목재기본밀도 개발)

  • This study aimed to derive the basic wood density, one of several carbon emission factors, for carbon accounting of bamboo forests in Korea. Bamboo is mainly distributed in Jeollanam-do and Gyeongsangnam-do provinces, and 101 sample trees were selected for each of the three species (Phyllostachys nigra var. henonis, P. bambusoides, and P. pubescens). The basic wood density derivation used the KS F 2098 method. The measurements showed that the basic wood density was 0.83 g/cm3 for P. nigra var. henonis, 0.81 g/cm3 for P. bambusoides, and 0.72 g/cm3 for P. pubescens. However, the bamboo distribution area in Korea is not very large, and P. pubescens grows in one area only. Therefore, the basic wood density that can be applied to bamboo was 0.79 g/cm3. Evaluation of the uncertainty of the extracted basic wood density showed a very low value of 1.61%, which confirmed the reliability of the basic wood density derived from this analysis. The basic wood density, biomass expansion factor, and root-to-shoot ratio were used to calculate the carbon storage capacity of one bamboo plant and expanded to calculate the capacity for a hectare of bamboo. Carbon storage and absorption of bamboo were calculated by applying a carbon-emission factor, such as the basic wood density. These study results are expected to contribute to the carbon-neutral policy and forest management direction in Korea.

Hardware Crypto-Core Based Authentication System (하드웨어 암호코어 기반 인증 시스템)

  • Default password protection used in operating systems have had many advances, but when the attacker has physical access to the server or gets root(administrator) privileges, the attacker can steal the password information(e.g. shadow file in Unix-like systems or SAM file in Windows), and using brute force and dictionary attacks can manage to obtain users' passwords. It is really difficult to obligate users to use complex passwords, so it is really common to find weak accounts to exploit. In this paper, we present a secure authentication scheme based on digital signatures and secure key storage that solves this problem, and explain the possible implementations using Trusted Platform Module(TPM). We also make a performance analysis of hardware and software TPMs inside implementations.
