Optimal Scheduling in Power-Generation Systems with Thermal and Pumped-Storage Hydroelectric Units

  • This paper is concerned with the unit commitment problem in an electric power system with both thermal and pumped-storage hydroelectric units. This is a mixed integer programming problem and the Lagrangean relaxation method is used. We show that the relaxed problem decomposes into two kinds of subproblems : a shortest-path problem for each thermal unit and a minimum cost flow problem for each pumped-storage hydroelectric unit. A method of obtaining an incumbenet solution from the solution of a relaxed problem is presented. The Lagrangean multipliers are updated using both subgradient and incremental cost. The algorithm is applied to a real Korean power generation system and its computational results are reported and compaired with other works.

이기종 저장장치를 위한 제거 비용 평가 기반 캐시 관리 기법 (A Cache Management Technique Based on Eviction Cost Estimation for Heterogeneous Storage Devices)

  • The objective of cache is to reduce I/O access of physical storage device so that user accesses their data faster. Traditionally, the most important metric to measure the performance of cache is hitratio. Thus, when the cache maintains hitratio high, it is regarded as a good cache replacement policy. However, the cache miss latency is different when the storages are heterogeneous. Though the cache hitratio is high, if the cache often misses with low performance disk, then the user experiences low performance. To address this problem we proposed eviction cost estimation based cache management. In our result, the eviction cost estimation based cache management has 10~30% throughput improvement compared with LRU cache management.

  • 최근 데이터 폭증으로 인한 시스템 및 스토리지 성능저하에 따른 upgrade와 용량증설 등의 요구가 거세지고 있어 단편적인 증설에 의한 해결보다는 보다 근원적이고 장기적 관점의 해결책이 요구되고 있다. 본 논문에서는 이에 대한 해결책으로 기업의 운영 중인 스토리지 시스템의 운영 상태와 데이터 가치 분석을 통한 정보수명주기 기반 스토리지 계층화 방안을 개선안으로 제시하고 구현하였다. 본 연구를 통해 체계화된 데이터 관리방안 수립과 정보수명주기 기반 계층화된 스토리지 시스템으로 재구성한 후 기존 대비 약 21%의 전체 Throughput이 개선되었고 장기적 관점에서 지속적인 품질유지 및 운영비용 절감에 매우 효과적임을 확인하였다.

효율적 전력 관리를 위한 독립형 가로등의 ESS 설계 및 구현 (Design and Implementation of an ESS for Efficient Power Management of Stand-Alone Type Street Lights)

  • Several efforts to replace the use of existing fossil energy resources have already been made around the world. As a result, a new industry of renewable energy has been created, and efficient energy distribution and storage has been promoted intensively. Among the newly explored renewable energy sources, the most widely used one is solar energy generation, which has a high market potential. An energy storage system (ESS) is a system as required. In this paper, the design and implementation of an ESS for the efficient use of power in stand-alone street lights is presented. In current ESS applied to stand-alone street lights, either 12V~24V DC (from solar power) or 110V~220V AC (from commercial power) is used to recharge power in systems with lithium batteries. In this study, an ESS that can support both solar power and commercial power was designed and implemented; it can also perform emergency recharge of portable devices from solar powered street lights. This system can maximize the scalability of ESSes using lithium batteries with efficient energy conversion, with the advantage of being an eco-friendly technology. In a ripple effect, it can also be applied to smart grids, electric vehicles, and new, renewable storage markets where energy storage technology is required.

의류 물류센터 보관효율 향상을 위한 실증적 연구 : 행거 랙 보관과 건물기둥 간격을 중심으로 (An Empirical Study on Clothing Distribution Center to Improve Storage Efficiency : Especially on Hanger Rack Storage According to Distance between Columns)

  • Sales of the Korean clothing industry grew to 16.9 percent on-year in 2010, but the growth rate dropped to 3 percent from 2011 to 2016 and the overall market began to slump to 1.1.6 percent in 2017. The competitiveness of clothing companies is also a major sector in logistics capability, and the average logistics cost of domestic clothing companies is 8.3 percent of sales in 2011, higher than the average 8 percent of domestic industries, and 36.4 percent of the total storage cost in 2011, higher than the 28.8 percent share of the total storage cost of domestic companies. As domestic production conditions such as wage hikes and labor disputes worsened in the 1990s, production facilities were rapidly moved overseas, which led many clothing companies to have no production facilities or a minimal production base in Korea and focus on marketing and design capabilities. The total storage capacity and storage efficiency of the logistics center became very important as the products were changed to the form of mass warehousing and small-volume forwarding. Research shows that building column spacing, a model of this research, can affect the amount of hanger rack storage empirically, so for sustainable growth of clothing companies, it is necessary to improve competitiveness in the logistics market by reducing costs and improving efficiency to overcome difficulties in corporate management. Because logistics costs are 8.3 percent and operating profit to sales ratio is 2 percent, it is expected that operating profit will increase by 41.5 percent if logistics costs are reduced by 10 percent. If 10% of storage cost is saved based on storage cost, operating profit is expected to increase by 15% To strengthen the competitiveness of the clothing industry, a reduction in logistics costs is essential. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to provide hints that logistics experts can have empirically small amounts in reducing storage costs through column spacing adjustment of logistics centers that have not been dealt with statistically until now, and to contribute to the continued growth of clothing companies and the development of the domestic logistics industry.

냉동 저장 온도가 쇠고기의 저장성에 미치는 영향 (Effects of freezing storage temperature on the storage stability of beef)

  • 본 연구는 쇠고기의 단기 저장 중 이화학 분석을 통하여 가정에서 쇠고기 저장 시 냉동 저장 조건을 탐색해보았다. 쇠고기의 지방 산패 정도를 나타내는 TBA가에서는 $-5^{\circ}C$ 저장군이 $-20^{\circ}C$ 저장군과 유사한 경향을 보였으며, 쇠고기의 단백질 신선도를 나타내는 VBN 함량과 일반세균수도 $-5^{\circ}C$ 저장군과 $-20^{\circ}C$ 저장군이 유사한 추세를 보이며 증가하였다. 적색도와 전단력에서는 $-5^{\circ}C$ 저장군이 $-20^{\circ}C$ 저장군보다 $-1^{\circ}C$ 저장군과 흡사한 경향을 보였다. 이에 대해 식품의 유통기한에 대한 식품의약품안전처의 고시(2014)에 따르면 식육의 설정실험 지표는 TBA가, 휘발성염기질소, 세균수, 대장균수이므로 본 실험의 TBA가와 VBN 함량, 일반세균 수 항목에서 $-5^{\circ}C$에서의 저장이 $-20^{\circ}C$ 저장과 유사한 결과를 나타낸 점에 의의가 있다. 이상의 연구결과를 종합해 볼 때, 쇠고기의 단기 저장 시 $-5^{\circ}C$에서의 저장은 $-20^{\circ}C$에서의 저장과 유사한 측면을 보이며 약 52일간 저장이 가능할 것으로 예측되어 쇠고기의 단기 저장 시 신선도 유지에 효율적이라고 생각된다. 추후 온도 조절뿐만 아니라 가정용 냉장고의 습도, 쇠고기의 포장 방법, 저장 시 용량 등 여러 인자들의 조절로 가정 내 쇠고기의 냉동 저장에 대한 연구가 필요할 것으로 보인다.

데이타 종류에 기반한 NOD 시스템의 데이타 배치 방법 (A Data Placement Method of NOD systems based on data types)

  • NOD(News On Demand) 시스템은 텍스트, 이미지, 그리고 비디오 등의 다양한 형태의 데이타를 포함하며, 데이타의 형태에 따라 크기가 다르다. 따라서, 본 논문에서는 데이타의 종류에 따라 데이타의 배치 방법을 다르게 하는 DPMDT(Data Placement Method based on Data Types)방법을 제안하고, 생성된 날짜를 기반으로 데이타를 배치하는 TBSM(Time Based Storage Management) 방법과 생성날짜와 접속 비율을 기반으로 데이타를 배치하는 RBSM(Rate Based Storage Management) 방법과의 성능을 비교, 분석하였다. 분석 결과, 비디오 뉴스의 재생 시간이 길고 디스크의 개수가 적은 경우(1개)에는 DPMDT 방법이 TBSM이나 RBSM 방법에 비해 다소 낮은 성능을 보였으나, 디스크의 개수가 2개 이상인 경우에는 DPMDT 방법이 TBSM이나 RBSM 방법에 비해 좋은 성능을 보였다.

E2GSM: Energy Effective Gear-Shifting Mechanism in Cloud Storage System

  • Recently, Massive energy consumption in Cloud Storage System has attracted great attention both in industry and research community. However, most of the solutions utilize single method to reduce the energy consumption only in one aspect. This paper proposed an energy effective gear-shifting mechanism (E2GSM) in Cloud Storage System to save energy consumption from multi-aspects. E2GSM is established on data classification mechanism and data replication management strategy. Data is classified according to its properties and then be placed into the corresponding zones through the data classification mechanism. Data replication management strategies determine the minimum replica number through a mathematical model and make decision on replica placement. Based on the above data classification mechanism and replica management strategies, the energy effective gear-shifting mechanism (E2GSM) can automatically gear-shifting among the nodes. Mathematical analytical model certificates our proposed E2GSM is energy effective. Simulation experiments based on Gridsim show that the proposed gear-shifting mechanism is cost effective. Compared to the other energy-saved mechanism, our E2GSM can save energy consumption substantially at the slight expense of performance loss while meeting the QoS of user.

저수지 내용적 곡선의 모의발생 (Simulation of Stage-Storage Curve Function in Irrigation Reservoirs)

  • The uses of stage-storage curve function are diverse in irrigation reservoirs. The curve functions would be used to determine the optimal size of spillway length and the inundation area above full water level based on the flood routing in reservoirs. In addition, the curve function would he used to transform the stage to the storage for the reservoir water management, in which the storage is the supply water. Besides those, the curve is necessary for the planning of dredging, the estimation of the effective and the dead storage, the drought management by reservoir, etc. The curve function data, however, are almost unavailable for these purposes. According to the statistics, about 74% of the 2, 900 resevoirs which are maintained by Farm Land Improvement Association have no more effective data. Therefore, the simulation of the curve function could be better alternative. The curve functions were simulated derivating the regression equations based on the basin relief ratio and the effective depth. The results of the verification show the enough reliability of the application to generate the curve function in some reservoirs which do not have the surveyed stage-storage data. Also, even though the averaged curve function would be applicated without the basin relief ratio data, the result shows that the simulated curve is closer to the real one than the linear function by only the existing effective storage data.

고속 데이터베이스 시스템을 위한 컬럼-인지 양분화 기법 (Column-aware Polarization Scheme for High-Speed Database Systems)

  • 최근 컬럼-기반 저장 장치는 우수한 입출력 성능으로 고속 데이터베이스 시스템의 진보적인 중요 모델이 되었다. 본 논문에서는, 기존의 가로-기반 저장 모델과 비교 분석하고, 고속 컬럼-기반 데이터베이스 시스템의 유효 성능을 향상시키기 위하여, 플래시 메모리와 어시스트 드라이브를 활용한 새로운 컬럼-인지 스토리지 관리 모델을 제안한다. 컬럼-인지 폴라라이징이라고 하는 본 스토리지 관리 기법은 테이블 컬럼을 활성-컬럼과 비활성-컬럼으로 양분하여 압축 저장하며, 고부하시에 어시스트 드라이브를 활용하여 적체된 저장 연산을 리벨런싱한다. 실험 결과는 본 제안 기법이 컬럼-기반 스토리지의 초당 저장 연산 처리치를 19% 개선하였고, 그 응답 성능도 49%개선되었음을 보였다.
