  • The foundation of the multi-span greenhouse structures is designed with small shallow concrete foundation considering mainly the vertical load. However, recently, due to an abnormal climate such as strong wind, horizontal load and up-lift load over design strength are applied to the foundation, causing safety problems of the greenhouse foundation. In order to reasonably evaluate the safety of greenhouse foundations, rotational and pullout stiffness expressed by the ground-foundation interaction should be evaluated, which also affects the safety of the upper structural members. In this study, three representative basic foundation types were selected by classifying greenhouse standards in Korea according to the shape, and the horizontal loading tests and theoretical calculation were performed for each foundation type. As a result of the comparison and analysis of the test and calculation, it was found that rotational resistance of the foundation is different according to the ratio of the contact area between the foundation and ground when the conditions of the foundation - ground contact surface and the mechanical properties of the ground are the same.

  • Auxiliary support systems such as the reinforced protective umbrella method have been applied before tunnel excavation to increase ground stiffness and to prevent the large deformation. However, determination procedure of geotechnical parameters along the construction sequence contains various errors. This study suggests a method to characterize the time-dependent behavior of pre-reinforced zones around the tunnel using elastic waves. Experimental results show that shear strength as well as elastic wave velocities increase with the curing time. Shear strength and strength parameters can be uniquely correlated to elastic wave velocities. Obtained results from the laboratory tests are applied to numerical simulation of tunnel considering its construction sequences. Based on numerical analysis, initial installation part of pre-reinforcement and portal of tunnel are critical for tunnel stability. Result of the time-dependent condition is similar to the results of for $1{\sim}2$ days of the constant time conditions. Finally, suggested simple analysis method combining experimental and numerical procedure which considering time-dependent behavior of pre-reinforced zone on tunnel would provide reliable and reasonable design and analysis for tunnel.

  • In this study, a floater was developed for a frame-type solar power plant. The floater supports the frame and the solar panels. A finite element analysis was performed to design its shape and thickness, and the floater was manufactured by a rotational molding method using linear low-density polyethylene. It was found that the floater did not cause collapse and it maintained its stiffness even at 4 times the maximum load of 322.7 kgf. To perform a long-term compression test, a weight-type load application device that uses gravity was designed and manufactured. The amount of compressive deformation was measured for 7 days, and a long-term deformation equation was obtained. Even under small loads, continuous deformation was observed. However, the 10-year deformation amount for a constant load of 100 kgf was predicted to be small at about 4.64 mm. As a result, it was found that the developed floater could be used in a solar power plant on a body of water.

  • Damage level of coastal structures has been scaled up according to increase of wave height and duration of the storm due to the abnormal global climate change. So, the design criteria for new breakwaters is being intensified and structural strengthening is also conducted for the existing breakwaters. Recently, interlocking concept has been much attention to enhance the structural stability of the conventional caisson structure designed individually to resist waves. The interlocking caisson breakwater may be survival even if unusual high wave occurs because the maximum wave force may be reduced by phase lags among the wave forces acting on each caisson. In this study, the dispersion characteristics of wave forces using interlocking system that connect the upper part of caisson with cable in the normal direction of breakwater was investigated. A simplified linear model was developed for computational efficiency, in which the foundation and connection cables were modelled as linear springs, and caisson structures were assumed to be rigid. From numerical experiments, it can be found that the higher wave forces are transmitted through the cable as the angle of incident wave is larger, and the larger the stiffness of the interlocking cable makes larger wave dispersion effect.

  • In the case of railway facilities in cities such as a railway station or a bridge, the significance of design for reducing vibration and noise is getting more significant. The vibration control solution is in need especially for an elevated railway station to block vibration of a train and secondary noise effectively. Even though a vertical vibration isolation device is able to be applied effectively to railway facilities such as elevated railway stations which transfer vibration directly from a train to a structure, the development of the vertical device is much slower than a horizontal vibration isolation device. In this paper, a vibration isolation device using wedge type friction material which is currently developing to reduce train-induced vibration effectively is introduced and test results for verification of dynamic performance is also presented. The vibration test on a concrete structure equipped with the developed vibration isolation device is conducted through which the isolation performance and dynamic properties are verified and needs for improving the performance of the device is identified.

  • Flexural tests of full-scale concrete-filled U-shape hybrid composite beams were conducted. Ordinary (SS400) and high-strength (SM570) steel plates were used in the web and in the bottom flange of U-shape steel section respectively. The primary objectives were to develop the hybrid section configuration with maximized flexural capacity and to investigate its flexural strength and deformation capacity. All the hybrid test specimens in this study exhibited the plastic moment capacity and resonable deformability. It is shown that the plastic stress distribution can be assumed in calculating the flexural strength of the proposed hybrid composite beams if the plastic neural axis is located within 15% of the total beam depth from the top of the composite slab. The procedure for computing the effective flexural stiffness of hybrid composite beams is also recommended based on test results.

  • The reinforced concrete beam-column connections are in lack of constructability and are likely to show anchorage failure because of the complex details of joint regions. Under seismic loads, a destruction of the column or the beam-column joint leads to collapse of the whole structures. For this reason, the safety of structures has to be guaranteed by following procedures which are based on the strong column-weak beam design concept: 1) failure of beam by generating plastic hinge in the beam maintained a certain distance from the surface of column, 2) failure of column or beam-column joint. In this study, headed bars were used as longitudinal reinforcements of beam and joint reinforcements in order to improve the strength and constructability of joint and to relocate plastic hinge. The finite element analyses (FEAs) were performed to the reinforced concrete beam-column joints utilizing headed bar reinforcements. To verify the availability of the analysis models, the FEAs for experimental tests performed by previous researchers were conducted and compared with the experimental results. Additional variables are also considered to confirm the excellence of headed bars. Analysis results indicate that the constructability of beam-column connections can be improved by using headed bars for the full anchorage of longitudinal reinforcements of beam under similar structural performance. In addition, the plastic hinge was relocated to the intended place by using headed bars as joint reinforcements. Under cyclic displacement loading, the energy dissipation capacity and ultimate stress were increased and the decrease in stiffness was minimized.

  • Masonry structure is a style of building which has been widely applied as residential facilities of low and middle stories, commercial and public facilities etc. But it is possible to destroy by loss of adhesive strength or sliding when lateral forces, such as earthquake, occurs. This study proposes a seismic retrofit method for masonry structure and its seismic performance is demonstrated by shaking table test. Two specimens per each shaking direction were made, having out-of-plane(weak axis) and in-plane(strong axis) direction. External load of 1 ton was also applied for each specimen during the test, to model the behavior of reinforced masonry wall. As a result of shaking table tests, it is shown that the specimen applying the proposed seismic retrofit method showed acceptable behaviors in both of Korea building design criteria(0.14g) and USA seismic criteria suggested by IBC(0.4g). However, it was observed that stiffness of the specimen toward out-of-plane was rapidly decreasing when seismic excitations over 0.14g were loaded. In comparison of relative displacements, maximum relative displacement of specimens which were accelerated toward out-of-plane with 0.4g at once was 29~31% of maximum relative displacement when specimens were gradually accelerated from 0.08g to 0.4g, while the maximum relative displacement of specimens accelerated toward in-plane has similar value in both cases. Therefore, it is concluded that the wall accelerated toward out-of-plane is more affected by hair crack or possible fatigues caused by seismic excitation.

In a concrete way, This study exams the effect of reducing horizontal displacement and the shear lag phenomenon, Also, The purpose of this study is to utilize the basic data on the design and study of future high-rise hybrid structural system using this research. As a result, The framed- tube structural system does not effectively cope with horizontal behavior of high-rise buildings, The results of using varying material tested resistance factors and lateral loads in hybrid tube structural system, When each material is compared Bracing material is identified as a key factor in lateral behavior. In a ratio of material quantity framed-tube structural system, The level of sensitivity affecting the horizontal displacement is greater then the beam's column, In case of braced tube structural system, Braced appeared to be most sensitive in comparison of material quantity ratio in columns and beams.

  • The lateral bearing characteristics of large diameter drilled shaft depend greatly on the stiffness of the pile, horizontal subgrade reaction of adjacent ground. In particular, the empirical evaluation results of the horizontal subgrade reaction coefficient which are widely used in pile design are very important factors in evaluating the lateral bearing capacity of drilled shaft because the difference in bearing capacity depends on the estimated result. Nevertheless, the evaluation of the horizontal subgrade reaction coefficient on the large diameter drilled shaft is insufficient. In addition, although the range of influence and the location of the maximum moment which is the weaken zone on the pile may be correlated and relationship of these are major consideration in determining the reinforced zone of drilled shaft, the previous studies have not been evaluated it. In this study, the field test and nonlinear analysis of large diameter drilled shaft were performed to evaluate the horizontal subgrade reaction coefficient and to investigate the relationship between the influence range 1/β of the pile and the location of the maximum moment zm. In the result, the lateral bearing capacity of drilled shaft showed a difference in results by about 190% according to the empirical equation on the horizontal subgrade reaction coefficient. And the relationship between the influence range of the pile and the location of the maximum moment was evaluated as a linear relationship depending on the soil density.
