  • We have developed the Scan-backlight Stereoscopic LCD that is a kind of field-sequential -Stereoscopic LCD combining the Dual- Directional- Backlight and the fast-response OCB panel. The Dual-Directional-Backlight using a double-sided prism sheet can change the direction of light by switching the LED light sources. The OCB panel using Feed-Forward Drive can realize frame rate of 120 Hz. As a result, the Scan-backlight Stereoscopic display works at its original resolving power, and produces flicker-free stereoscopic images. This auto- stereoscopic display can resolved the problems of the double images and the pseudoscopic images in case of watching at oblique angles.

  • Two cameras which function like human eyes, are needed to make 3D stereoscopic image. That is, stereoscopic image is made via 3 dimensional image processing for combining two images from left and right camera. In this paper two high resolution zoom cameras are used to make HD resolution stereoscopic camera. And the algorithm which convert to stereoscopic image from HD resolution zoom camera image, is implemented using FPGA for real-time operation. The algorithm which measure the depth of object between left and right image is proposed.

  • A 3D stereoscopic image is generated by interdigitating every scene with video editing tools that are rendered by two cameras' views in 3D modeling tools, like Autodesk MAX(R) and Autodesk MAYA(R). However, the depth of object from a static scene and the continuous stereo effect in the view of transformation, are not represented in a natural method. This is because after choosing the settings of arbitrary angle of convergence and the distance between the modeling and those two cameras, the user needs to render the view from both cameras. So, the user needs a process of controlling the camera's interval and rendering repetitively, which takes too much time. Therefore, in this paper, we will propose the 3D stereoscopic image editing system for solving such problems as well as exposing the system's inherent limitations. We can generate the view of two cameras and can confirm the stereo effect in real-time on 3D modeling tools. Then, we can intuitively determine immersion of 3D stereoscopic image in real-time, by using the 3D stereoscopic image preview function.

  • In this paper, a study on the physical properties of mortar applying 3D Textile was conducted to compensate for the shortcomings of the existing concrete surface repair and reinforcement method. In the tests conducted to analyze the physical properties, compressive strength, flexural strength, and dynamic modulus measurement tests were conducted. As a result of the compressive strength test, as the number of surfaces to which the stereoscopic fiber was applied increased, the amount of displacement and strength reduction rate increased, and the flexural strength also increased as the number of surfaces to which the stereoscopic fiber was applied increased. In addition, it was confirmed that the use of stereoscopic fibers tended to decrease the dynamic modulus of elasticity. This result is a characteristic of the application of stereoscopic fibers, and it caused a decrease in compressive strength due to a decrease in the mortar content of the part to which the stereoscopic fib er was applied, and the high tensile force of the stereoscopic fiber is believed to have affected the increase in flexural strength.

  • Recently, diverse 3D image processing technologies have been applied in industries. Among them, stereoscopic conversion is a technology to generate a stereoscopic image from a conventional 2D image. The technology can be applied to movie and broadcasting contents and the viewer can watch 3D stereoscopic contents. Further the stereoscopic conversion is required to be applied to other fields. Following such trend, the aim of this paper is to apply the stereoscopic conversion to medical fields. The medical images can deliver more detailed 3D information with a stereoscopic image compared with a 2D plane image. This paper presents a novel methodology for converting a 2D medical image into a 3D stereoscopic image. For this, mean shift segmentation, edge detection, intensity analysis, etc are utilized to generate a final depth map. From an image and the depth map, left and right images are constructed. In the experiment, the proposed method is performed on a medical image such as CT (Computed Tomograpy). The stereoscopic image displayed on a 3D monitor shows a satisfactory performance.

  • Recently, RGB images and depth maps have been supplied to academic fields. The depth maps are utilized to the generation of stereoscopic images in the diverse formats according to the users' preference. A variety of methods that use depth maps have been introduced so far. One of applications is a medical field. In this area, the improvement of the perceptual quality of 2D medical images has gained much interest. In this paper, we propose a novel scheme that expands the conventional method to 3D stereoscopic image, thereby achieving the perceptual depth quality improvement as well as 3D stereoscopic perception enhancement at the same time. For this, contrast transformation as well as depth darkening are proposed and their performance is validated through the subjective test. Subjective experiments peformed for stereoscopic enhancement as well as visual fatigue validate that the proposed method achieves better 3D perception than the usage of the original stereoscopic image and suggests the limitation in terms of the visual fatigue.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine factors that affect 3D stereoscopic movie audiences' satisfaction in Korea, and to provide strategic solutions to improve audiences' satisfaction. According to study about movie audiences' satisfaction, factors that affect movie audiences' satisfaction are separated to movie internal factors, movie environmental factors and movie audience factors. And leverage of movie internal factors is bigger than either. But 3D stereoscopic movie is different from ordinary movie in shooting, screening, seeing and recognizing method. So it is expected that movie environmental factors and audience factors' influence is bigger than internal factors. So this study carried out a survey targeting 3D stereoscopic audiences. Main result of this study are shown as follows. First, the method to reduce visual fatigue is necessary for satisfaction. Second, it is required that improvement method of seat arrangement to provide high quality 3D stereoscopic contents. Third, level of 3D stereoscopic movies' price need to adjust to valid level.

  • However, in order to create a stereoscopic 3D image, independently, it is required to spend expensive manufacturing costs and to have special techniques. As 3D display devices have been generalized, there is an increasing need for implementing a stereoscopic 3D image without a burden of expensive costs. This paper proposes some methods to implement stereoscopic 3D images easily by utilizing a marker tracking technology using a single camera. In addition, the study made it possible for the resolution of an image to be adjustable dynamically. This paper will be committed to the promotion of the field of UCC (User Created Contents) using stereoscopic 3D images by attracting the active participation of general users in the field of the implementation of stereoscopic 3D images.

  • The development of image technologies in such area as broadcasting and movies has recently increased our attention to 3D stereoscopic images. In addition, the development of stereoscopic image representation technologies in 3D contents becomes more active over time due to the representational limitations of 2D images. Without limitation to the above-mentioned area, stereoscopic image technologies have been developed and studied so that they can be widely accessed in diverse areas including medical services and education. Due to the refined production, however, required to represent a three dimensional effects and the fatigue caused by the perception of a three dimensional effects, the stereoscopic image technologies are not combined into real time systems such as games where environments change unforeseeably. In this study we design a technique to adjust the depth scaling that will enable efficient management of a three dimensional effects and to relieve fatigue through automatic view point interval adjustment in accordance with situations based on the geometrical structure of the DirectX SDK graphic pipeline. Through this, we would like to suggest a new alternative idea to activate the production of games combined with stereoscopic image technologies.

  • In stereoscopic television, there is a trade-off between visual comfort and 3-dimensional (3D) impact with respect to the baseline-stretch of a 3DTV camera. It is necessary to adjust the baseline-stretch at an appropriate the distance depending on the contents of a scene if we want to obtain a subjectively optimal quality of an image. However, it is very hard to obtain a small baseline-stretch using commercially available cameras of broadcasting quality where the sizes of the lens and CCD module are large. In order to overcome this limitation, we attempt to freely control the baseline-stretch of a stereoscopic camera by synthesizing the virtual views at the desired location of interval between two cameras. This proposed technique is based on the stereo matching and view synthesis techniques. We first obtain a dense disparity map using a hierarchical stereo matching with the edge-adaptive multiple shifted windows. Then, we synthesize the virtual views using the disparity map. Simulation results with various stereoscopic images demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed technique.
