The green-emitting CeMgAl11O19:Tb (CMAT) phosphor has been prepared at 1200 °C by the simple solid-state reaction using AlF3 as a self-flux. This preparation temperature is much lower than those (1500-1700 °C) for conventional solid-state reaction and spray pyrolysis method. In particular, the complete process to produce high-quality phosphor particles was carried out through the single-step heat treatment of the mixture of corresponding oxide-type metal sources. An addition of AlF3 as a self-flux significantly decreased the crystallization temperature of CMAT with plate-like shape. The particle morphology could be controlled from plate-like to spherical by using H3BO3 as an additional flux. Thus, an optimal morphology and luminescence characteristics of CMAT were achieved when both AlF3 and H3BO3 fluxes were simultaneously used. Compared with conventional solid-state process, which is accompanied by the calcination step(s), and other alternative liquid solution techniques such as sol-gel method and spray pyrolysis, no use of active precursors and liquid media that are harmful to the environment is a distinctive advantage for the industrial purpose.

There have been a number of studies conducted in order to compare the efficiencies of recovery rates, utilizing different protocols, for the isolation of L. monocytogenes. However, the severity of multiple cell injury has not been included in these studies. In the current study, L. monocytogenes ATCC 19112 was injured by exposure to extreme temperatures ($60^{\circ}C$ and $-20^{\circ}C$) for a one-step injury, and for a two-step injury the cells were transferred directly from a heat treatment to frozen state to induce a severe cell injury (up to 100% injury). The injured cells were then subjected to the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the ISO-11290, and the modified United States Department of Agriculture (mUSDA) protocols, and plated on TSAyeast (0.6% yeast), PALCAM agar, and CHROMAgar Listeria for 24 h or 48 h. The evaluation of the total recovery of injured cells was also calculated based on the costs involved in the preparation of media for each protocol. Results indicate that the mUSDA method is best able to aid the recovery of heat-injured, freeze-injured, and heat-freeze-injured cells and was shown to be the most cost effective for heat-freeze-injured cells.
To investigate the factors influencing the artifical transformation in Escherichia coli, E. coli C600 was transformed by pBR322 DNA with tetracycline and ampicillin resistant gene purified by CsCl-Etbr equilibrium density gradient centrifugation from E.coli HB 101. The influencing factors in the transformation such as concentration of calcium chloride, time of ice incubation, temperature and time of heat shock, time of gene expression, effects of plasmid DNA concentration and adding time were examined in these experiments. The results obtained were as follows; 1. The highest transformation frequency was observed in the treatments of 100 mM $CaCl_2$ before heat shock and the treatment of $CaCl_2$ was essential step in the process of E. coli transformation. 2. The highest transformation frequency was observed in the treatment of heat shock at $42^{\circ}C$ for 4 min. or $37^{\circ}C$ for 6 min., but the prolonged heat shock resulted a decreased transformation frequency. 3. Treatments of ice incubation at $0^{\circ}C$ for 45 min. before heat stocks or at $0^{\circ}C$ for 30min. after heat shock resulted an increased transformation frequency. 4. There was a linear relationship between DNA concentration and transformation frequency at the concentration of $8{\times}10^3$ recipient cells. The highest transformation frequency reached in carte of 7 mcg of donor DNA, but above 1 mcg of DNA concentration, transformation frequency was not remarkably increased. Addition of donor DNA just after the treatment of $CaCl_2$ was the best. 5. The best condition of gene expression at $37^{\circ}C$ were 40min. for TC-resistant gene and 100min. for AP-resistant gene. TC-resistant gene was higher in the transformation frequency and faster in the gene expression time than AP-resistant gene. In these results, the best conditions for the transformation of E. coli C 600 with pBR322 DNA were: treatment with 100mM $CaCl_2$, ice incubation at $0^{\circ}C$ for 45 min, heat shock at $42^{\circ}C$ for 4 min., 30 min. of ice incubation and incubation at $37^{\circ}C$ for 100min. for gene expression in that order.
Alumina composite membranes were prepared by chemical vapor deposition (CVD) using aluminum-tri-isopropoxide as a precursor. Porous alumina supports were used in deposition, which were in disk shape with mean pore diameter of 0.1 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ and prepared by slip-coasting process. film deposition morphology on porous support was simulated through depositing alumina film on polycrystalline silicon pattern, and its step coverage observed by SEM showed one deviated from uniform step coverage. N2 permeability through composite membranes and the pressure dependence decreased as the deposition time increased. Initially, the N2 permeability of the top layer was tend to decrease rapidly, and then the degree of decrease in N2 permeability was tend to diminish with deposition time. The N2 permeability increased with heat treatment temperature and the crack was generated in top layer at 100$0^{\circ}C$.
A new multi-seeding process for the growth of YBa$_2$Cu$_3$Oxx single crystals was developed. This process introduces an additional heating step to peritectic temperature and a subsequent slow cooling step to the growth temperature following the point when the crystals contacted. The crystal growth was resumed thereafter. The results obtained with this new process were compared with those of the conventional growth process, in which materials were only kept at the growth temperature. It was observed that the liquid phase between crystals were almost completely eliminated, but that Y2ll grains were grown during this new process. There was no significant improvement in trapped magnetic field over the conventional process, which is believed to be due to the cracks generated during the oxygen heat treatment or to the growth of YBa$_2$Cu$_3$Ox grains.
$Bi_{2}Sr_{2}CaCu_{2}O_{x}$(Bi-2212) and $Bi_{2}Sr_{2}Ca_{2}Cu_{3}O_{y}$(Bi-2223) high-$T_{c}$ superconductor(HTS) coating have been prepared by plasma spraying and heaat treatment. The Bi-2212 HTS coating later is synthesized through the peritectic reaction between Sr-Ca-Cu oxide coating layer and Bi-Cu oxide coating later, and $Bi_{2}Sr_{2}CaCu_{2}O_{y}$(Bi-2212) superconducting phase grow by partial melting process. The superconducting characteristic depends strongly on the conditions of the partial melting process. the Bi-2212 HTS layer consists of the whiskers grown in the diffusion direction. Above the 2212 layer, Bi-2223 phase and secondary phase was observed. The secondary phase is distributed uniformly over the whole surface. This is caused to the microcrack on the coatings surface. Despite everything, the film shows superconducting with an onset $T_{c}$ of about 115K. There are two changes steps. One changes (1step) at 115K is due to the diamagnetism of the Bi-2223 phase and the other changes (2step) at 78K is due to the diamagnetism of the Bi-2212 phase.
The importance and interests for saving of energy and cost in industry has been steadily grown up. Therefore, process optimization to reduce the processing step and energy is one of the most important things. The micro-alloyed steel of which post-heat-treatment is not necessary, has attractive points for high strength materials. However, for the application of non-heat-treated steel to structural parts, it is necessary to confirm the reliability of mechanical properties. In order to estimate mechanical properties. The microstructure, hardness, tensile strength, compressive strength and tensile fatigue strength of micro-alloyed steel having 900MPa tensile strength has been investigated.
Purpose: The aim of this study is to compare the healing response of various Hydroxyapatite(HA) coated dental implants by Ion-Beam Assisted Deposition(IBAD) placed in the surgically created circumferential gap in dogs. Materials and methods: In four mongrel dogs, all mandibular premolars and the first molar were extracted. After an 8 weeks healing period, six submerged type implants were placed and the circumferential cylindrical 2mm coronal defects around the implants were made surgically with customized step drills. Groups were divided into six groups : anodized surface, anodized surface with 150nm HA and heat treatment, anodized surface with 300nm HA and heat treatment, anodized surface with 150nm HA and no heat treatment, and anodized surface with 150nm HA, heat treatment and bone graft, anodized surface with bone graft. The dogs were sacrificed following 12 weeks healing period. Specimens were analyzed histologically and histomorphometrically. Results: During the healing period, healing was uneventful and implants were well maintained. Anodized surface with HA coating and $430^{\circ}C$ heat treatment showed an improved regenerative characteristics. Most of the gaps were filled with newly regenerated bone. The implant surface was covered with bone layer as base for intensive bone formation and remodeling. In case that graft the alloplastic material to the gaps, most of the coronal gaps were filled with newly formed bone and remaining graft particles. The bone-implant contact and bone density parameters showed similar results with the histological findings. The bone graft group presented the best bone-implant contact value which had statistical significance. Conclusion: Within the scope of this study, nano-scale HA coated dental implants appeared to have significant effect on the development of new bone formation. And additional bone graft is an effective method in overcoming the gaps around the implants.

Si(Al)ON precursor was synthesized by formation of new Si-N bond using organoaluminum imine and liquid type poly(phenyl carbosilane). It was decomposed between $200-600^{\circ}C$, and the ceramic yield was 51% after pyrolysis. 150 - 200 nm in thickness of coating film was obtained by spin coating method. The precursor was easily oxidized during process because it was unstable in air. However the oxygen content was limited to 0.5 - 0.7 to silicon in heat treatment step. Even though the content of nitrogen was decreased by pyrolysis, Al-N and Si-N bonds were formed in ammonia atmosphere, and Si(Al)ON film was formed with 0.2 in content to silicon.

The purpose of the present study was to examine the efficacy and mechanism of fraction IV cold ethanol fractionation and pasteurization (60$^{\circ}C$ heat treatment for 10 h), involved in the manufacture of albumin from human plasma, in the removal and/or inactivation of the hepatitis A virus (HAV). Samples from the relevant stages of the production process were spiked with HAV and the amount of virus in each fraction then quantified using a 50% tissue culture infectious dose (TCID$\_$50/). HAV was effectively partitioned from albumin during the fraction IV cold ethanol fractionation with a log reduction factor of 3.43. Pasteurization was also found to be a robust and effective step in inactivating HAV, where the titers were reduced from an initial titer of 7.60 log TCID$\_$50/ to undetectable levels within 5 h of treatment. The log reduction factor achieved during pasteurization was $\geq$4.76. Therefore, the current results indicate that the production process for albumin has sufficient HAV reducing capacity to achieve a high margin of virus safety.
