  • This paper presents a comparative evaluation of eight different types of steel fibers used as reinforcing material in concrete beams. The fibers which used ultra-strength steel fiber reinforced concrete were fiber length of 30 to 60mm, aspect ratio of 43 to 86, W/B ratio 0.16 to 0.30, fiber types of both ends hooked and straight shape and fiber volume fraction of 1 to 5$\%$. As for the test results, it estimated the influence of fiber volume, length and aspect ratio on the mechanical properties of high toughness concrete, the mechanical properties improved according to increase fiber volume, to increase aspect ratio and to long fiber length. And the resonable fiber volume in high toughness concrete was analyzed 2$\%$ based on the results of mechanical properties.

  • In order to prevent brittle failure of concrete, steel fiber reinforcement is effective composite material. However ductility of steel fiber reinforced concrete may be limited due to shrinkage caused by large content of cement binder. Chemical prestressing for steel fiber reinforcement in cement matrix can be induced through expansive admixture and this can increase reinforcing effect of steel fiber. In this study, mechanical performances in concrete with CSA (Calcium sulfoaluminate) expansive admixture and steel fiber reinforcement are evaluated. For this work, steel fiber reinforcement of 1 and 2% of volume ratio and CSA expansive admixture of 10% weight ratio of cement are added in concrete. Mechanical and fracture properties are evaluated in concrete with steel fiber reinforcement and CSA expansive admixture. CSA concrete with steel fiber reinforcement shows increase in tensile strength, initial cracking load, and ductility performance like enlarged fracture energy after cracking. With appropriate using expansive admixture and optimum ratio of steel fiber reinforcement, their interactive action can effectively improve brittle behavior in concrete.

  • Concrete is strong on the compressive property, but weak on the tensile and flexural properties. To improve these problems, the reinforcing bar is used in concrete. But porous concrete with steel fiber has a weak point when exposed to air, because porous concrete has the vast continuous void on its inside and steel fiber is easily rusted by air. For these reasons, this study investigated the void ratio, compressive strength, bending strength and bending toughness as steel fiber mixing ratio and target void ratio. From test results, actual void ratio and strength properties increased as the mixing ratio of steel fiber increase. In case the mixing ratio of steel fiber over the fixed ratio, strength is decreased. And from the toughness evaluation, compared to the porous concrete which isn't mixed with steel fiber, the deflection variation efficiency is remarkably improved. Consequently we can confirm the possibility of porous concrete with steel fiber for the secondary product and pavement material to improve strength and bending resistance efficiency.

  • This paper investigates the effects of aspect ratio and volume fraction of hooked-end normal-strength steel fibers on the compressive and flexural properties of high-strength concrete with specified compressive strength of 60 MPa. Three types of hooked-end steel fibers with aspect ratios of 64, 67 and 80 were considered and three volume fractions of 0.25%, 0.50% and 0.75% for each steel fiber were respectively added into each high-strength concrete mixture. The test results indicated that the addition of normal-strength steel fibers is effective to improve compressive and flexural properties of high-strength concrete but fiber aspect ratio had little effect on the modulus of elasticity and compressive strength. As steel fiber content and aspect ratio increased, flexural beahvior of notched high-strength concrete beams was effectively improved.

  • As composite materials, the addition of steel fiber in concrete significantly improves the engineering properties of structural members, notably shear strength and ductility, In this study, shear capacity evaluation method according to steel fiber contents was proposed from the literature surveys and member tests. For this, previously proposed five shear strength equation were examined and evaluated by maximum shear strength and shear capacity ratio. From the parametric study and regression analysis, following conclusion can be made; the maximum shear strength of steel fiber reinforced column will be estimated by relative shear capacity ratio.

  • The addition of steel fiber with concrete significantly improves the engineering properties of structural members, notably shear strength. The purpose of this study is to determine the steel fiber shape, aspect ratio and volume fraction ratio in a point of practical usage as structural members. Steel fiber factor and volume fraction are also considered to verify the strengthening effect in member level. From the reviewing of previous researches and analyzing of consecutive material test results, the optimum shape and length of steel fiber, which can have a good strengthening effects were defined as a hooked end type and larger than 1.5 times of maximum gravel size. Analyzing the test results of strength and deformation capacity, aspect ratio 75 and volume fraction $1.5\%$ can be having a maximum strengthening effect of steel fiber. Also steel fiber factor, tensile splitting strength, and flexural strength are found as key parameter in shear strengthening effect in member level.

  • Since the steel fiber used in concrete to improve shear and ductility capacity, a number of laboratory tests have been studied to define shear strengthening effect according steel fiber contents in concrete. This study investigates shear strengthening effect of steel fiber in RC columns according to compression strength of concrete. From the structural performance test, following conclusions can be made; the maximum enhancement of shear strengthening effect can be achieved at about 1.0 %~l.5 % of steel fiber contents in comparison with shear capacity ratio, and ductility capacity slightly improved as steel fiber contents increased.

  • The aim of this study is to investigate the flexural performance of hybrid fiber reinforced self-compacting concrete (HFRSCC) having different ratio of micro and macro steel fiber. A total of five mixtures are prepared. In all mixtures, the sum of the steel fiber content is 1% and also water/binder ratio is kept constant. The amount of high range water reducer admixture (HRWRA) is arranged to satisfy the workability criteria of self-compacting concrete. Four-point bending test is carried out to analyze the flexural performance of the mixtures at 28 and 56 curing days. From the obtained load-deflection curves, the load carrying capacity, deflection and toughness values are investigated according to ASTM C1609, ASTM C1018 and JSCE standards. The mixtures containing higher ratio of macro steel fiber exhibit numerous micro-cracks and, thus, deflection-hardening response is observed. The mixture containing 1% micro steel fiber shows worst performance in the view of all flexural parameters. An improvement is observed in the aspect of toughness and load carrying capacity as the macro steel fiber content increases. The test results based on the standards are also compared taking account of abovementioned standards.

  • To improve the brittle column behavior during seismic excitation, benefits of using steel fiber reinforced concrete in columns were investigated. For experimental study, eight specimens were used to evaluate the shear enhancement effect. The variables in this study were amount of shear reinforcement ratio (i.e., 0.26, 0.21 $\%$) and steel fiber volume fraction (i.e., 0.0, 1.0, 1.5, 2.0$\%$). The test results indicated that the maximum enhancement of shear capacity was shown in $1.5\%$ steel fiber content. In addition, to predict the maximum shear strength, equations of ACI 318-99, AIJ MB, NZS 3101, Hirosawa and Priestley were reviewed. From the parametric and regression study, modified Priestely equation was proposed by adding steel fiber effect.

  • Steel fiber reinforced concrete(SFRC) is a composite material possessing many physical and mechanical properties which are distinct from unreinforced concrete. The use of steel fiber reinforcement to improve the flexural and tensile strengths, extensibility and toughness of ordinary cement concrete is well known at present, but reinforcement of polymer concrete with steel fibers has been hardly reported untill now. The objective of this study was to improve the properties of the polymer concrete by addition of steel fibers. In this paper steel fiber reinforced polymer concrete is prepared with various steel fiber contents and aspect ratio($\ell$ /d), and their mechanical properties were investigated experimentally.
