SCC Mechanism of Ni Base Alloys in Lead Contaminated Water

  • Transgranular stress corrosion cracking of nickel base alloys was reported by Copson and Dean in 1965. Study to establish this cracking mechanism needs to be carried out. Laboratory stress corrosion tests were performed for mill annealed(MA) or thermally treated(TT) steam generator tubing materials in a high temperature water containing lead. An electrochemical interaction of lead with the alloying elements of SG tubings was also investigated. Alloy 690 TT showed a transgranular stress corrosion cracking in a 40% NaOH solution with 5000 ppm of lead, while intergranular stress corrosion racking was observed in a 10% NaOH solution with 100 ppm lead. Lead seems to enhance the disruption of passive film and anodic dissolution of alloy 600 and alloy 690. Crack tip blunting at grain boundary carbides plays a role for the transgranular stress corrosion cracking.

가열처리시간이 Steaming 및 Roasting green tea의 성분변화에 미치는 영향 (A study on the changes of the components in the steaming and roasting green tea after heat treatments according to time.)

  • This experiment was conducted to investigate changes of the components in steamed and roasted green tea after 10 min, 20 min and 30 min of heat treatment of heat treatment at $110^{\circ}C$. Vitamin C and tannin were determined by spetrophotometry. Total nitrogen, water-soluble nitrogen and water-soluble non protein nitrogen were determined by Kjeldahl analysis system. Aromas were identified by gas chromatography. After heat treatment, contents of most compounds decreased. Tannin and caffeine decreased a little bit, while vitamin C decreased considerably. There were both decreases and increases in aromas. Aromas which increased were geraniol, trans-2-hexenol, linalool, $\alpha$-ionone and $\beta$-ionone. From these results, it was concluded that the highest quality of green tea was one steam- treated for 10 min at $110^{\circ}C$.

  • Objectives: To report the effect of Korean medicine on 39-year-old infertile patient with thin endometrium. Methods: The patient who had thin endometrium was treated with herbal medication, acupuncture, moxibustion and steam bath for 4 months. Results: After the Korean medical treatment, the patient could give a natural birth to a healthy baby. Conclusions: The case report suggests that Korean medicine, especially herbal medicine and acupuncture is effective on thin endometrium.

A practical power law creep modeling of alloy 690 SG tube materials

  • A new practical modeling of the Norton's power law creep is proposed and implemented to analyze the high temperature behaviors of Alloy 690 SG tube material. In the model, both the stress exponent n and the rate constant B are simply treated as the temperature dependent parameters. Based on the two-step optimization procedure, the temperature function of the rate constant B(T) was determined for the data set of each B value after fixing the stress exponent n value by using the prior optimized function at each temperature. This procedure could significantly reduce the numerical errors when using the power law creep equations. Based on the better description of the steady-state creep rates, the experimental rupture times could also be well predicted by using the Monkman-Grant relationship. Furthermore, the difference in tensile strengths at high temperatures could be very well estimated by assuming the imaginary creep stress related to the given strain rate after correcting the temperature effects on the elastic modulus.

소수성 제올라이트로의 변환을 위한 고온 수증기처리에 의한 $NH_4Y$-제올라이트의 탈알루미늄 (Dealumination of $NH_4Y$-Zeolite to Convert to the Hydrophobic Zeolite by High-Temperature Steam Treatment)

  • 본 연구는 연속적인 고온수증기에 의한 가수분해와 질산추출공정으로 제올라이트결정구조내의 알루미늄을 제거하여 Si/Al비를 높임으로서 친수성인 $NH_4Y$형 제올라이트를 VOCs제거용 소수성의 것으로 바꾸기 위해 수행하였으며, 이를 위해 펠렛으로 만든 3가지 $NH_4Y$형 제올라이트 시료들을 각각 스텐레스제 컬럼에서 $400^{\circ}C$, $500^{\circ}C$ 그리고 $600^{\circ}C$ 등 3가지 온도의 수증기와 4시간 동안 접촉시킨 후, 각 온도에서 처리된 제올라이트별로 제올라이트의 결정구조로부터 이탈한 알루미늄을 500 mL 플라스크 속에서 $90^{\circ}C$의 0.25 M, 0.50 M. 0.75 M, 그리고 0.10 M 등 4가지 농도의 질산용액으로 추출하였다. 그 결과 탈알루미늄된 제올라이트들의 XRD분석을 통해 $500^{\circ}C$$600^{\circ}C$의 수중기로 가수분해한 제올라이트들은 결정구조로부터 이탈한 알루미늄을 추출하기 위해 사용된 질산의 농도가 높은 것일수록 피크가 많이 일그러졌고, $400^{\circ}C$의 증기로 가수분해한 제올라이트들은 4가지 농도의 질산으로 처리한 모든 제올라이트들이 무정형으로 변환됨이 확인되었다. 또한 EDX분석을 통해 $600^{\circ}C$의 증기로 가수분해한 제올라이트들의 BET비표면적과 TPV값이 0.25 M과 0.50 M의 질산을 사용했을 때는 높은 농도의 질산으로 처리된 것이 컸고 0.75 M과 1.0 M의 질산을 사용했을 때는 작음이 확인되었다. 이상의 실험결과들로부터 친수성인 $NH_4Y$형 제올라이트를 소수성의 것으로 변환시키기 위한 수증기의 온도는 $500^{\circ}C$$600^{\circ}C$가, 그리고 질산의 농도는 0.5 M이 적합한 것으로 결론지을 수 있고, 이와 같은 결론은 BET비표면적과 TPV값과 같은 경향을 보인 벤젠과 톨루엔의 흡착용량측정결과로 입증되었다. 탈알루미늄된 제올라이트들의 수분에 대한 Si/Al비와 흡착용량은 각각 높은 농도의 질산으로 처리된 것일수록 증가하고 감소하여 소수성이 증가함을 나타내었다.

  • 두릅나무 Aralia elata순의 saponin을 분리하여 조사한 결과는 다음과 같다. 1. Saponin의 함량과 종류는 자연산이 온상산보다 많고, 가열에 의해서는 모두 감소하였으며, 잎이 자랄수록 그 함량은 증가하였다. 자연산 날것 식용적기(Nr2)의 총 saponin 종류는 37개였다. 2. 자연산의 saponin 패턴은 생육시기에 따라 변하였으며 날것 식용적기(Nr2)가 다른 것에 비해서 크게 달랐다. 그러나 가열 처리한 결과는 saponin 패턴이 변화되어 시기적 차가 줄었다. 온상산은 자연산에 비해 피크가 단순하고 시기별 차이는 적었지만 가열에 의한 패턴의 차도 적었다. 3. 자연산 날것 식용적기는 ‘b’ saponin이 특이하게 많았고 나머지에서는 ‘d’ saponin이 가장 많았다.

Characteristics and Antioxidative Activity of Volatile Compounds in Heated Garlic (Allium sativum)

  • The aroma characteristics and antioxidative activity of volatile compounds in heat-treated garlic (Allium sativum L.) were evaluated. The garlic was heated to various temperatures (100, 110, 120, and $130^{\circ}C$) for different lengths of time (1, 2, and 3 hr). The volatile compounds of heated garlic were extracted by simultaneous steam distillation extraction (SDE). Aroma compound profiles were analyzed by gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (GC/MS) and antioxidative activity was measured by 2,2-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) assay and 2,2'-azino-bis-(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid (ABTS) cation decolorization assay. The major aroma compounds were sulfur compounds such as dimethyl disulfide, 2-propen-1-ol, methyl-2-propenyl disulfide, dimethyl trisulfide, diallyl disulfide, methyl-2-propenyl trisulfide, and di-2-propenyl trisulfide. DPPH radical scavenging activity (EDA, %) and the ascorbic acid equivalent antioxidant activity (AEAC) of volatile compounds in heated garlic increased significantly with the increase of temperature and time (p<0.001). The EDA (%) and AEAC of raw garlic were 26.8%/10 mg garlic and 39.05 mg ascorbic acid equivalent per g sample. After heat treatment, the highest values were 40.50%/10 mg garlic for EDA (%) and 46.43 mg ascorbic acid equivalent per g sample for ABTS.

휘발성 기름함량 정량에 의한 신속하고 간단한 후추의 품질평가 방법 (Simple Rapid Quality Estimation Method in Black and White Pepper Grounds by Determination of Volatile Oil Content)

  • 흑후추와 백후추 원두에서 HPLC에 의한 piperine 함량, 가열처리 전후의 시료에 대한 Soxhlet법을 이용한 휘발성 기름성분 함량, SDE(Linkens-Nikens type simultaneous steam distillation and extraction apparatus)법을 이용한 총 휘발성 물질 함량 등을 측정하였다. 그 결과, 흑후추와 백후추의 구성성분차이, 인도네시아와 인도의 산지 기후조건 및 품종 차이 등에 따른 편차는 인정되었으나 전체적으로 일정한 범위 내에서 차이를 나타내었다. 후추에서 맛의 차이는 맛 성분의 차이보다는 휘발성 물질의 함량 차이가 큰 영향을 미쳐 냄새를 일반적으로 맛으로 착각하는 경향이 있는 것으로 판단된다. 이로부터 상호간의 측정결과를 비교평가해 본 결과 일정 수준의 비례적 관계를 갖는 것으로 나타나 현장의 품질관리 등에서 간편하고 신속하게 결과를 측정할 수 있는 Soxhlet법에 의한 휘발성 기름 성분 함량 측정법을 후추의 중요한 품질평가 방법의 하나로 활용할 수 있을 것으로 기대되는 결과를 얻었다.

Incorporation of Titanium into H-ZSM-5 Zeolite via Chemical Vapor Deposition: Effect of Steam Treatment

  • Ti-ZSM-5 prepared by secondary synthesis, from the reaction of H-ZSM-5 with vapor phase $TiCl_4$, was characterized with several physicochemical techniques including FT-IR and UV/VIS-DRS. It was found that zeolite structure, surface area and pore volume did not change, and the framework aluminum could not be replaced by titanium atom during the secondary synthesis of Ti-ZSM-5. The incorporation of titanium into the framework might be due to reaction of $TiCl_4$with the silanol groups associated with defects or surface sites. The formation of extra-framework titanium could not be avoided, unless the samples were further treated by water vapor at 550 $^{\circ}C$ or higher temperature. High temperature steam treatment of Ti-ZSM-5 prepared by chemical vapor deposition with $TiCl_4$was efficient to prevent the formation of non-framework titanium species. Ti-ZSM-5 zeolites prepared in this work contained only framework titanium species and exhibited improved catalytic property close to TS-1 prepared by hydrothermal synthesis.

Endovascular Treatment of 429 Anterior Communicating Artery Aneurysms Using Bare-Platinum Coils : Clinical and Radiologic Outcomes at the Long-term Follow-up

  • Objective : We reviewed the feasibility, safety and efficacy as well as the clinical outcome and long-term angiographic results of endovascular treatment (EVT) of the anterior communicating artery (ACoA) aneurysms. Methods : A total of 429 ACoA aneurysms in 426 patients were treated using coil embolization between March 1996 and October 2010 in a single institution. Pretreatment aneurysmal features were checked using angiogram. We had usually used tailored steam shaped microcatheter according to individual angiographic architectures. Immediate postembolization outcomes were evaluated using an angiographic outcome scale and clinical evaluation was performed using the Glasgow Outcome Scale (GOS). Results : Postembolization angiograms demonstrated total occlusion of aneurysm in 290 of 429 (67.6%) aneurysms, neck remnant in 80 (18.6%) and body filling in 59 (13.8%). Dome direction and aneurysm angle was not associated with initial angiographic outcomes. The procedure-related morbidity rate was 0.9% (4 of 429). Clinical and imaging follow-up more than 6 months were available in 382 (89.0%) patients with a mean of 26.2 months. Overall rate of major recanalization was 7.9% (30 of 382) and all of them were retreated without complications. At the last follow-up, 233 (99.2%) of 235 patients had GOS of 5 in unruptured group, and 152 (79.5%) of 191 patients showed good clinical outcomes (GOS of 4 or 5) in ruptured group. Conclusion : Tailored steam shaping of the microcatheter is vital to achieve good angiographic outcomes regardless of aneurysmal direction. EVT is feasible and safe for most ACoA aneurysms with acceptable immediate and long-term outcomes.
