  • This paper deals with the reliability and availability characteristics of three different series system configurations with warm standby components and a repairable service station. The failure time of the primary and warm standby are assumed to be exponentially distributed with parameters ${\lambda}$ and ${\alpha}$ respectively. The repair time distribution of each server is also exponentially distributed with parameter ${\mu}$. The breakdown time and the repair time of the service station are also assumed exponentially distributed with parameters ${\gamma}$ and ${\beta}$ respectively. We derive the reliability dependent on time, availability dependent on time, the mean time to failure, $MTTF_i$, and the steady-state availability $A_i$(${\infty}$) for three configurations and perform comparisons. Comparisons are made for specific values of distribution parameters and of the cost of the components. The three configurations are ranked based on: $MTTF_i$, $A_i$(${\infty}$), and $C_i/B_i$ where $B_i$ is either $MTTF_i$ or $A_i$(${\infty}$).

  • In this paper, we consider a standby redundant structure with a function of switchover processing which may not be not perfect. The switchover processing is governed by a control module whose failure may cause the failure of the whole system. The parameters measuring such an effect of failure of the control module is included in our reliability model. We compute several reliability measures such as reliability function, failure rate, MTBF, mean residual life function, and the steady state availability. We also compare a single unit structure and the redundant structure with regard to those reliability measures. An example is given to illustrate our results.

  • Lim et al.(1998) proposed the Bayesian Imperfect Repair Model, in which a failed system is perfectly repaired with probability P and is minimally repaired with probability 1 - P, where P is not fixed but a random variable with a prior distribution II(p). In this note, the steady state availability of the model is derived and the measure is obtained for several particular prior distribution functions.

  • In this paper, replacement problems for a deteriorating system are considered. In the system under consideration, the successive lifetimes after repair become shorter and shorter, while the consecutive repair times become longer and longer. More specifically, the lifetimes of the system form a nonhomogeneous Poisson process, whereas the consecutive repair times constitute a stochastically increasing geometric process. Optimal replacement policies for the long-run average cost rate and the steady state availability are considered. Also taking the cost and the availability into consideration at the same time, the properties of optimal policies under the Cost Priority Policy and the Availability Priority Policy are obtained.

  • The availability of a high quality open source CFD simulation platform like OpenFOAM offers new R&D opportunities by providing direct access to models and solver implementation details. Efforts have been made by Hydro-Qu$\'{e}$bec to adapt OpenFOAM to hydroturbines for the development of steady-state capabilities. This paper describes the developments that have been made to implement new turbomachinery related capabilities: multiple frames of reference solver, domain coupling interfaces (GGI, cyclicGGI and mixing plane) and specialized boundary conditions. Practical use of the new turbomachinery capabilities are demonstrated for the analysis of a 195-MW Francis turbine.

  • In Part I of this paper, the two-temperature homogenized model for the fully ceramic microencapsulated fuel, in which tristructural isotropic particles are randomly dispersed in a fine lattice stochastic structure, was discussed. In this model, the fuel-kernel and silicon carbide matrix temperatures are distinguished. Moreover, the obtained temperature profiles are more realistic than those obtained using other models. Using the temperature-dependent thermal conductivities of uranium nitride and the silicon carbide matrix, temperature-dependent homogenized parameters were obtained. In Part II of the paper, coupled with the COREDAX code, a reactor core loaded by fully ceramic microencapsulated fuel in which tristructural isotropic particles are randomly dispersed in the fine lattice stochastic structure is analyzed via a two-temperature homogenized model at steady and transient states. The results are compared with those from harmonic- and volumetric-average thermal conductivity models; i.e., we compare $k_{eff}$ eigenvalues, power distributions, and temperature profiles in the hottest single channel at a steady state. At transient states, we compare total power, average energy deposition, and maximum temperatures in the hottest single channel obtained by the different thermal analysis models. The different thermal analysis models and the availability of fuel-kernel temperatures in the two-temperature homogenized model for Doppler temperature feedback lead to significant differences.

  • Rejuvenating a system periodically during the most idle time of the system reduces unexpected downtime caused by software aging and increases its availability. In general, software rejuvenation can be largely divided into two broad categories: time-based rejuvenation policy and condition-based rejuvenation policy. In time-based rejuvenation policy the software rejuvenation is triggered at scheduled time epochs with fixed time intervals, while in condition-based rejuvenation policy the software rejuvenation is performed when system state is checked to satisfy a specific condition. Conditionbased policy adds extra cost to the system due to system monitoring and aging estimation. This paper presents a stochastic model for analyzing time-based software rejuvenation mechanism, where the rejuvenation is triggered at scheduled time epochs with fixed time intervals, and provides an analytical solution for the steady-state availability, the user-perceived availability, and the corresponding cost.

  • An cluster web server system, one has the problem that does the low availability occured by the high chance of the server failures and it is not easy to provide high performance and availability occuring software aging. In this paper, running cluster web sewers consists of n primary servers and k backup servers, propose software rejuvenation model on performance and switchover time. Based on the various system operational parameters, we calculate to evaluate the rejuvenation policy such steady-state probabilities, availability, and downtime cost. And we validate the solutions of mathematical model by experiments based on various operation parameters and fud that the software rejuvenation method can be adopted as prventive fault tolerant technique for stability of system.

  • In many cases, it is more practical and economical to repair a system than to replace the whole system or to perform a complete overhaul when the system fails. Two basic replacement policies were proposed by Barlow and Hunter(1960) and Morimura (1970), in which the minimal repair times are identically distributed. But, as Lam(1988) pointed out, in many cases of deteriorating system, in view of ageing and cumulative wear, the repair time will tend to be longer and longer. In this note, the two basic replacement policies are considered for a repairable system with linearly increasing repair times. Optimal policies, which maximize the steady state availability of the system, are obtained for the Weibull failure rate case.
