  • The fractional slot windings are widely used in rotating machine in order to increase the flexibility of design and improve the voltage waveform. However, the MMF wave of fractional-slot windings are found to contain unique harmonic component, which are designated as even order space flux harmonics, fractional number flux harmonics, or both. They may cause stray loss and stator core vibration. This paper proposes new winding methods "novel interspersed windings" and "expanded group windings" to reduce these harmonics. The advantages of two proposed windings are verified by using numerical analysis and measurement test of winding model.

  • This paper presents the acoustic noise and mechanical vibration reduction of a coreless brushless DC motor with an air dynamic bearing used in a digital lightening processor. The coreless brushless DC motor does not have a stator yoke or stator slot to remove the unbalanced force caused by the interaction between the stator yoke and the rotor magnet. An unbalanced force makes slotless brushless DC motors vibrate and mechanically noisy, and the attractive force between the magnet and the stator yoke increases power consumption. Also, when a coreless brushless DC motor is driven by a $120^{\circ}$ conduction type inverter, high frequency acoustic noise occurs because of the peak components of the phase currents caused by small phase inductance and large phase resistance. In this paper, a core-less brushless DC motor with an air dynamic bearing to remove mechanical vibration and to reduce power consumption is applied to a digital lightening processor. A $180^{\circ}$ conduction type inverter drives it to reduce high frequency acoustic noise. The applied methods are simulated and tested using a manufactured prototype motor with an air dynamic bearing. The experimental results show that a coreless brushless DC motor has characteristics of low power consumption, low mechanical vibration, and low high frequency acoustic noise.

  • This paper presents a design of a 2-phase segmental stator type 4/3 switched reluctance motor (SRM) for air-blower application. The air-blower requires only one direction rotation, high rotor speed without torque dead-zone. In order to satisfy the requirements of the load, the rotor of the 4/3 proposed SRM is designed with wider rotor pole arc and non-uniform air-gap is applied on the rotor shape. With a special rotor structure, the motor generates a wider positive torque region and has no torque dead-zone. The stator of the proposed SRM is constructed with two segmental C-cores, and there are no magnetic connections between 2 C-cores. The flux follows in a short closed loop in each C-core and has no reversal flux in the stator. The static and dynamic characteristics of the proposed motor are analyzed by the finite element method (FEA) and Matlab-Simulink, respectively. In order to verify the design, a prototype of the proposed motor has manufactured for laboratory test. The performance of the proposed motor is verified by the simulation and experimental results.

  • Prior to destructive testing, diagnostic tests were performed in ten high voltage motors. Diagnostic tests included polarization infer, ac current, dissipation factor$(tan{\delta})$ and partial discharge magnitude. The rewind of motet slater insulation at rated voltage is assessed by the results of these tests. After completing the diagnostic tests, the stator windings of motors were subjected to gradually increasing ac voltage, until the insulation punctured. No. 8 motor failed near rated voltage of 19.0 kV. The breakdown voltage of No. 4 motet was 7.0 kV which is lower that expected for good quality coils in 6.6 kV class motors. The failure was located in a line-end coil at the exit from the core slot. These two motors began operation in 1994. While testing No. 7 motor, flashover occurred between the stator winding and the stator frame at 15 kV. The relationship between the diagnostic test and the drop in insulation breakdown voltage was analyzed.

  • The evaporative cooling technology used in Wind generator stator has unique advantages. Combined with the structure of motor stator and operating conditions, this report based on the research project for the evaporative cooling sleeve of the 3.6MW wind generator, introduces the material requirements and structural characteristics of the sleeve, simulates on the stress, displacement and stability by finite analysis method, and tests the products experimentally. The research results show that the epoxy resin-glass materials have a higher strength and better insulation properties, but the evaporative cooling of the wind generator stator sleeve, because of its thin-walled, and the external pressure, so it's the less rigid. Should make full use of the motor stator core structure, increase its stiffness and improve the stability of the epoxy resin-glass sleeve, which for thin-walled the epoxy resinglass sleeve on the successful application of wind turbines has played an important role.

  • We made a high-speed motor and a DC brush-less motor for factory automation (FA) to investigate applicability of powder magnetic core to motor application, and compared those performances with the similar motors having conventional electro magnetic steel core. Permeability and saturated magnetization of powder magnetic core are less than those of elect romagnetic steel core, however output performances of each core motor are almost the same. The FA motor with powder magnetic core using three-dimensional magnetic circuit showed higher torque than the same volume motor with electromag netic steel core.

  • The effort attempts to investigate the influence of various non-oriented electrical steel sheets on the core loss of a switched reluctance motor (SRM). The core loss of the motor inherits a strong correlation with flux density and permeability of the material. The study involves the use of laminated 2.7 % high silicon steel suitable for the motor in view of its higher flux density and lower core loss. The accurate prediction of core loss leaves way to suggest measures for improving the performance of the SRM. The dynamic simulation measurements of a 1.5 kW, three-phase 12/8 SRM involve the finite element method (FEM) and use the data obtained experimentally from Epstein frame. The closeness of the simulated and hardware results obtained with laminations of M400-50A, DI MAX-M19 and DI MAX-M15 both for the stator and rotor, espouse a greater significance to the findings in terms of the core loss density and forge new dimensions for its use in the drive industry.

  • In this paper, a novel 12/8 segmental rotor type switched reluctance motor (SRM) is proposed. Different from conventional structures, the proposed rotor consists of a series of discrete segments, and the stator is constructed from two types of stator poles: exciting and auxiliary poles. Moreover, in this structure short flux paths are taken and no flux reverse exists in the stator. While the auxiliary poles are not wound by the windings, which only provide the flux return path. Compared with conventional 12/8 SRM, the proposed structure increases the electrical utilization of the machine and decreases the core losses, which may lead to high efficiency. To verify the proposed structure, finite element method (FEM) is employed to get static and dynamic characteristics. Finally, a prototype of the proposed motor is tested for characteristics comparisons.
