The purpose of this study is to understand information behavior of older adults with diabetes. After reviewing previous research, related factors are identified and a questionnaire was devised. The structured interview was administered to the aged 60 and over in the B hospital (N=543). Data about awareness of the disease, health literacy, information environment, information need, information seeking, information use, information service, and personal background are collected and analyzed descriptively. Relationship between variables are examined and hypotheses are tested to find factors affecting information behavior. The level of the awareness of the disease and health literacy appeared to be low. It is proved that awareness of the disease is a factor affecting information need and information use. Health literacy affects information use. There is a statistical significant difference between information need and information use by disease education and duration. There is also a statistical significant difference between information use among groups divided by information environment, sex, age, and education. Based on the results, campaign to raise disease awareness, marketing promotion about information support facilities, customized information service for older adults are suggested.

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the nasal deviation in mandibular prognathism with mandibulo-facial asymmetry. There were 40 patients whose mandibular prognathism with/without facial asymmetry were treated with orthognathic surgery from March 2002 to October 2003. The Group A(n=20) had a mandibulo-facial asymmetry over 6mm menton deviation in cephalogram PA and the Group B(n=20) had a mandibular prognathism. The preoperative frontal photograph, cephalogram PA and three dimensionalcomputed tomography(divided in hard tissuse image and soft tissue image) of two group was evaluated NDA(nasal deviation angle) and MDA(mandibular deviation angle). The NDA was statistical difference between asymmetry Group A and symmetry Group B(p<0.01), and was deviated in affected side of asymmetry. The MDA were also statistical difference between Group A and Group B(p<0.01), however the measurements of MDA between the frontal photograph, 3D-CT and cephalogram PA were similar to each others. The low correlation of NDA between frontal photograph and cephalogram PA in Group A and B demonstrate that we couldn't assess nasal deviation in cephalogram PA. It could be concluded that patients with mandibulo-facial asymmetry have a nasal deviation and clinician must remember this fact when they assess and treat patients.

Purpose: The purpose of this study is to compare changes in the flexibility of hamstring muscles which are relaxed on suboccipital muscle through suboccipital muscle inhibition and combination technique. Methods: Thirty sample subjects (16 male and 14 female) were randomly divided into an experimental group (n=15) and a control group (n=15). 1. Suboccipital muscle inhibition: Suboccipital muscles of the patients were placed on a bed. The occipital region was placed on a therapist's fingers, and the posture was maintained for three minutes before remeasurement. 2. Treatment with combination technique (body bolster and wooden pillow): Wooden pillows were placed where the participants could relax the posterior arch of the atlas; additional body bolsters were also placed to avoid high pressure, and the treatment was maintained for three minutes before remeasurement. Results: There was a statistical difference in finger floor distance (FFD) and straight leg raise (SLR) results for those treated with SMI (P<0.05). There was no statistical difference in FFD and SLR results for those treated with the combination technique (P>0.05). Conclusion: Between the two intervention methods; the suboccipital muscle inhibition technique was more effective in increasing the flexibility of subjects with a shortened hamstring than was the combination technique.
Purpose: This study aimed to investigate the effects of the crocodile breathing exercise on the muscle activity of the erector spinae muscle in patients with low back pain. Methods: The study subjects included 36 patients with low back pain. The patients were divided equally into the experimental group (EG) and the control group (CG). The EG performed the crocodile breathing exercise, and the CG performed a chest expansion breathing exercise. The intervention was conducted for 10 minutes each day for a total of eight weeks. Measurements of muscle activity were conducted using an MP150 system. An electrode was attached 2 cm to the side of the spinous process at the L4-L5 level. The muscle activity value used was %MVIC, and the statistical significance was 0.05. The paired t-test was the statistical method used to determine the pre- and post-average value of each breathing exercise, while the independent t-test was used to assess the delta value of muscle activity in the pre-post test. Results: Inspiration muscle activity showed a significant increase in both the EG and the CG, while expiration muscle activity decreased significantly in both groups. The delta value of muscle activity showed a significant difference in inspiration (p<0.05), but for expiration, there was no significant difference in muscle activity (p>0.05). Conclusion: This study suggests that crocodile breathing is a good method for improving muscle activity in patients with low back pain.

Purpose : The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of Kaltenborn-Evjenth (KE) joint mobilization of the distal radioulnar joints (RUJ) and proximal RUJ in distal radius fractures (DRFs) on range of motion (ROM), grip strength (GS), and patient-written wrist evaluation (PRWE) in each group once, thrice, or fivefold. Methods : Forty-two subjects participated in this study. We divided the subjects with DRFs into groups applying KE concepts RUJ mobilization once, thrice, and fivefold. The patients' ROM and GS were measured using a joint goniometer and dynamometer, respectively. Pain and function were also assessed using a PRWE. In the statistical analysis, all data were tested for normality using the Shapiro-Wilk test, and paired t-tests were performed for within-group before-and-after comparisons of each intervention. One-way analysis of variance was used for between-group comparisons of differences. All statistical significance levels were set at α=.05. Results : There were significant differences in the ROM in all three groups before and after the intervention (p<.05), but there were no significant differences between the groups. There were significant differences in the GS in the three groups before and after the intervention (p<.05), but there were no significant differences between the groups. In the pain part of the PRWE, all three groups had significant differences before and after intervention (p<.05), but there was no significant difference between the groups. In the functional part of the PRWE, there were significant differences in the three groups before and after intervention (p<.05), but no significant difference occurred between the groups. Conclusion : Based on the aforementioned results, there were no significant between-group differences in ROM, GS, and PRWE (pain and function) after the application of the K-E joint mobilization to DRFs once, thrice, and fivefold. Nevertheless, there were significant within-group differences in all the above.
Objectives : The purpose of this study was to compare about quantity of pain and fatigue according to cervical spine curvature of patient with neck pain. Methods : Cervical spine curvature was measured using the sagittal radiography of the cervical spine, neck pain was evaluated using the VAS and neck fatigue was evaluated using fatigue symptom checklist. Based on four line Cobb's method, 51 subjects were divided into hypolordosis group, normal group, hyperlordosis group. Window version SPSS 12K was used for statistical analysis about relation between pain and cervical spine curvature of each group, also about between fatigue and cervical spine curvature of each group. Results : 1. A significant difference was not found between pain and cervical curvature of each group. 2. A significant difference was not found between fatigue and cervical curvature of each group. Conclusions : There was no relation between pain and cervical curvature of each group, also fatigue and cervical curvature.

Statistical analysis method was performed using one way ANOVA for comparison between groups, and the paired t-test was used for comparison pre and post intervention. RESULTS: Static and dynamic balance were significant differences between pre and post intervention by three groups (p<.05). In static balance, there was a significant difference among groups (p<.05), but there was not a significant difference between groups in dynamic balance (p>.05). CONCLUSION: The results of the research, the ankle balance dual task including motor or cognitive task was more effective than single motor task on static balance in the elderly.
The purpose of his study was to investigate the variations of occlusal contact pattern according to chewing side preference. The author selected 59 dental students (mean age 23.6 years) who had no signs and symptoms of masticatory disorders and divided into two groups, that is, bilateral chewing side group and unilateral chewing side group, respectively. For recording, T-Scan System(Teksan Inc., USA) was used and the recorded occlusal contacts were examined as to the number of occlusal contacts, points distribution in dental arch, time sequence and force snapshot. The obtained results were as follow s: 1. Total number of occlusal contacts were more in unilateral chewing side group and there were significant difference in number between right and left side or between chewing and less-chewing side in all two groups. 2. All items related to time sequence showed no statistical significant difference between two groups in any case. 3. Unilateral chewing side group had more occlusal contact force than bilateral group, especially in chewing side. From the above finding, the author considered that there was occlusal unbalance in unilateral chewing side group. 4. Chewing side preference would possibly have more effects on the occurrence rate of anterior tooth contact that the rate of prolonged their contact but proved.
This study on stressful life events and coping methods of medical patients and community people was applied to people who was divided into two groups from July 19 to Aug. 7, 1982, One is hospitalized patients in medical wards of two university hospitals in Seoul. The other is inhibitants in eight Dongs of Seoul. This study compared the number and seversity of stressful life events reported by medical patients and community people within last six months, identified coping methods used by the two groups and explored the relationship between stressful life events and coping methods.
