  • One-year-long groundwater-level data have been collected from 18 wells in Cheon-an area. The result of barometric efficiency, autocorrelation, cross-correlation and statistical distribution evaluated from the measurement data shows that groundwater-level measurements from observation wells are the principal source of information about aquifer characteristics. Data from WA-2 has high barometric efficiency as well as steady decreasing auto-correlation coefficient, which means nonleaky confined aquifer, Most aquifers in this study show the unconfined properties so that barometric efficiencies are mostly low and the coefficients of cross-correlation between groundwater-level and precipitation are commonly high. This study showed that the long-term groundwater-level monitoring data without artificial stress such as pumping would give accurate information about aquifer characteristics.

  • In regression diagnostics, a number of joint influence measures based on various statistical tools have been discussed. We consider an alternate representation in terms of the predicted residual and g-leverage determined by the remaining points. By this approach, we choose the predicted residual sum of squares for the keypoints as joint influence measure and propose a new expression of it so that we can extend the single case form to the multiple case one. Furthermore we suggest a seach method for joint influence after investigating some properties of the new expression.

  • Lethal dose 50% ($LD_{50}$) has been commonly used as a parameter for the estimation of acute toxicity not only in animal experiment, but also in human study. Several methods to estimate $LD_{50}$ had been introduced, but Spearman-Karber and Berens-Karber method have been widely used due to their relative convenience and accuracy. However, $LD_{50}$ values estimated from the two methods showed inconsistency and variation depending on the characteristics of mortality data. In this study, the two methods were comparatively investigated in terms of accuracy and stability for the estimation of $LD_{50}$.

  • This paper investigates the effect of absorption loss by a human body to the received signal strength with respect to on-body transmitting antenna positions in on-to-off wireless body area networks. This investigation is based on measurement results obtained from experiments performed on human bodies (male and female) using planar inverted-F antennas in an anechoic chamber. The total absorption loss by the human body is also presented through the SEMCAD-X simulations. Our investigation showed that the received signal strength becomes lower when the transmitting antenna is mounted at a specific position where more absorption loss is experienced. The statistical analyses of on-to-off body channel characteristics based on the measurement results are presented.

  • $Pb(ZrTi)O_3$ thin films were prepared on transparent conducting oxides, through sol-gel processing. The processing variables such as spin velocity, spin time and annealing temperature were investigated using a statistical design of experiments. Dielectric properties were determined through capacitance-voltage measurements and electrical characterizations evaluated using current-voltage characteristics. The leakage currents is determined mainly by annealing. The capacitance and breakdown voltage is found to be independent of the processing variables. The sophisticatedly controlled PZT thin films have been confirmed through microscopic images.

  • This paper analyzes the performance of a Bluetooth piconet in error-prone environments. A statistical characterization of a waiting time, an end-to-end delay, and a goodput are derived analytically in terms of the arrival rates, the number of slaves, and the packet error rate (PER). For simplicity, half-symmetric piconet is assumed in this analysis. Both exhaustive and limited scheduling are considered. The analytic results are validated by simulations.

  • In the present work, an approach for the multiple time probabilistic characterization of the response of linear structural systems subjected to random non-Gaussian processes is presented. Its fundamental property is working directly on the multiple time probability density functions of the actions and of the response. This avoids of passing through the evaluation of the response statistical moments at multiple time or correlations, reducing the computational effort in a consistent measure. This approach is the extension to the multiple time case of a previously published dynamic Probability Transformation Method (PTM) working on a single evolution of the response statistics. The application to some simple examples has revealed the efficiency of the method, both in terms of computational effort and in terms of accuracy.

  • In general, well log and core data have been utilized for reservoir characterization. These well data can provide valuable information on reservoir properties with high vertical resolution at well locations. While the seismic surveys cover large areas of field but give only indirect features about reservoir properties. Therefore it is possible to estimate the reservoir properties guided by seismic data on entire area if a relationship of seismic data and well data can be defined. Seismic attributes calculated from seismic surveys contain the particular reservoir features, so that they should be extracted and used properly according to the purpose of study. The method to select the suitable seismic attributes among enormous ones is needed. The stepwise regression and fuzzy curve analysis based on fuzzy logics are used for selecting the best attributes. The relationship can be utilized to estimate reservoir properties derived from seismic attributes. This methodology is applied to a synthetic seismogram and a sonic log acquired from velocity model. Seismic attributes calculated from the seismic data are reflection strength, instantaneous phase, instantaneous frequency and pseudo sonic logging data as well as seismic trace. The fuzzy curve analysis is used for choosing the best seismic attributes compared to sonic log as well data, so that seismic trace, reflection strength, instantaneous frequency, and pseudo sonic logging data are selected. The relationship between the seismic attribute and well data is found out by the statistical regression method and estimates the reliable well data at a specific field location derived from only seismic attributes. For a future work in this study, the methodology should be checked an applicability of the real fields with more complex and various reservoir features.

  • The prevalence and genotype of Toxoplasma gondii infection in dogs in Henan Province, Central China was investigated. A total of 125 blood samples were collected from pet dogs during April to June 2013, and all samples were examined by indirect hemagglutination antibody test (IHA) and nested PCR. The overall T. gondii prevalence in pet dogs was 24.0% (30/125), with 20.8% (26/125) in IHA and 10.4% (13/125) in PCR, respectively. No statistical associations were found between animal gender and age and the prevalence of T. gondii infection. Thirteen positive DNA samples were genotyped using 11 PCR-RFLP markers, including SAG1, (3'+5') SAG2, alt.SAG2, SAG3, BTUB, GRA6, c22-8, c29-2, L358, PK1, and Apico. Of these, only 2 samples were genotyped with complete data for all loci, and a novel genotype (type III at SAG3 and GRA6 loci, and type I at other loci) was identified. This is the first report of genetic characterization of T. gondii infection in dogs in China.
