Three Dimensional Analysis of Induction Heating Process using a Moving Coordinate (이동좌표계를 이용한 3차원 유도가열공정 해석)

  • Finite element analysis for induction heating process including magnetic and thermal situations is presented. Because magnetic and thermal material properties vary with the temperature, material properties depending on temperature are considered. As the inductor moves, the solution domains corresponding to the inductor change into those of the air and the solution domains corresponding to the air change into those of the inductor. For these reasons, modeling of induction heating process is very difficult with a general purpose commercial programs. In this paper, three dimensional analysis of induction heating process for moving inductor is analyzed using moving coordinate. The skin effect is confirmed inside the steel plate in the electro-magnetic analysis. The distribution of heat generation at the initial state is different from that at the quasi-stationary state. Therefore, material properties depending on temperature must be considered. The calculated results of finite element analysis agree well with the experimental temperature results. This approach is suitable to solve magneto-thermal coupled problems.

  • Urea-SCR, the selective catalytic reduction using urea as reducing agent, has been investigated for about 10 years in detail and today is a well established technique for deNOx of stationary diesel engines. In the case of the SCR-catalyst a non-uniform velocity and $NH_3$ profile will cause an inhomogeneous conversion of the reducing agent $NH_3$, resulting in a local breakthrough of $NH_3$ or increasing NOx emissions. Therefore, this work investigates the effect of flow and $NH_3$ non-uniformities on the deNOx performance and $NH_3$ slip in a Urea-SCR exhaust system. From the results of this study, it is found that flow and $NH_3$ distribution within SCR monolith is strongly related with deNOx performance of SCR catalyst. It is also found that multi-hole injector shows better $NH_3$ uniformity at the face of SCR monolith face than one hole injector.

STRONG CONTROLLABILITY AND OPTIMAL CONTROL OF THE HEAT EQUATION WITH A THERMAL SOURCE

  • In this paper we consider an optimal control system described by n-dimensional heat equation with a thermal source. Thus problem is to find an optimal control which puts the system in a finite time T, into a stationary regime and to minimize a general objective function. Here we assume there is no constraints on control. This problem is reduced to a moment problem. We modify the moment problem into one consisting of the minimization of a positive linear functional over a set of Radon measures and we show that there is an optimal measure corresponding to the optimal control. The above optimal measure approximated by a finite combination of atomic measures. This construction gives rise to a finite dimensional linear programming problem, where its solution can be used to determine the optimal combination of atomic measures. Then by using the solution of the above linear programming problem we find a piecewise-constant optimal control function which is an approximate control for the original optimal control problem. Finally we obtain piecewise-constant optimal control for two examples of heat equations with a thermal source in one-dimensional.

Experimental study on the helical flow field in a concentric annulus with rotating inner cylinders (안쪽축이 회전하는 환형관내 헬리컬 유동장의 실험적연구)

  • The experimental study concerns the characteristics of a transitional flow in a concentric annulus with a diameter ration of 0.52, whose outer cylinder is stationary and inner one rotating. The pressure drops and skin-friction coefficients have been measured for the fully developed flow of water and that of glycerine-water solution (44%) at a inner cylinder rotational speed of $0{\sim}600$ rpm, respectively. The transitional flow have been examined by the measurement of pressure drops and the visualization of flow field, to reveal the relation of the Reynolds and Rossby numbers with the skin-friction coefficients and to understand the flow instability mechanism. The present results show that the skin-friction coefficients have the significant relation with the Rossby numbers, only for laminar regime. The occurrence of transition has been checked by the gradient changes of pressure drops and skin-friction coefficients with respect to the Reynolds numbers. The increasing rate of skin-friction coefficient due to the rotation is uniform for laminar flow regime, whereas it is suddenly reduced for transitional flow regime and, then, is gradually declined for turbulent flow regime. Consequently, the critical (axial-flow) Reynolds number decreases as the rotational speed increases. Thus, the rotation of inner cylinder promotes the early occurrence of transition due to the excitation of taylor vortices.

  • Oligomers of p-phenylene vinylene and its derivatives have drawn much attention due to their unusual emission characteristics of showing increased emission when they form into nanoparticles. We have investigated the optical properties of the oligo-(p-phenylene vinylene) and its cyano-substituted derivatives in solution and in nanoaggregate media by femtosecond and picosecond time resolved fluorescence as well as stationary spectroscopies. All the spectroscopic data are consistent with the conclusion that the cyano substitution on the ${\beta}$-position of oligo-(p-phenylene vinylene) leads to breakage of the otherwise planar structure of cyano-unsubstituted molecules, which opens up an extremely efficient, as fast as 100 fs, non-radiative relaxation channel of the excited state. Formation of the nanoaggregates reverts the effect to make the molecules planar and to block the non-radiative relaxation channel. Therefore, concerning the applications in organic electroluminescent devices and organic light emitting diodes, substitution by the cyano group is not advantageous, although such modification should be useful in respect of controlling fluorescence intensity in different media.

Studies on Licorice in Drug Preparations(I) Determination of Glycyrrhizin and Glycyrrhetinic acid by HPLC. (생약중의 감초에 관한 연구(I) HPLC에 의한 Glycyrrhizin 및 Glycyrrhetinic acid의 정량)

  • Glycyrrhizin (GA) content in licorice was determined by a couple of methods using HPLC, respectively. In Method(I), GA content itself was determined from the licorice aqueous extract, while in Method (II) glycyrrhetinic acid (GHeA ; the aglicone of GA) content corresponding to the quantity of GA was measured from the chloroform extract of the hydrolyzed product of licorice aqueous extract. A reverse phase column Hibar Lichrosorb RP-18 (E. Merck) was used as the stationary phase. As the mobile phase MeOH: $H_{2}O$(0.05M-$NaH_{2}PO_{4}$)=58 : 42 solution in Method (I), and MeOH: $H_{2}O $: AcOH=78; 19: 3 solution in Method (II) were suitable, respectively. The value obtained by Method (II) appeared slightly higher than that by Method (I). The effect of some other herbal drugs on the assay of GA quantity in mixed sample was also observed in both above two methods. By Method (I) Cassiae Cortex, Rehmaniae Rhizoma, Paeoniae Radix, and Angelicae Radix gave the subtractive effect on the amount of GA compared with the value from licorice alone. In the case of Method (II) Cassiae Cortex and Rehmaniae Rhizoma appeared to have subtractive effect but Paeoniae Radix and Angelicae Radix scarcely showed any influence. Pachymae Fungus did not affect the GA content at all. It seems that glycyrrhizin in licorice interacts with certain components of other herbal drugs.

  • For precise positioning, GPS carrier measurements are often used. In this case, accurate position having mm${\sim}$cm error can be obtained. For 3D positioning, in CDGPS, more than five carrier phase measurements are required. When GPS signals are blocked or carrier phase measurements are insufficient, it cannot provide positioning solution. By integrating CDGPS with INS, continuity of positioning solution can be guaranteed. However, when a vehicle moves in low speed or in stationary, the CDGPS/INS integrated system is difficult to compensate INS attitude errors because GPS velocity error become relatively lange. In this paper, we used the 3D attitude GPS receiver to compensate the INS attitude error. By field experiments, it is shown that the proposed integration system maintains the navigation performance even when a vehicle is in low speed or GPS signal is blocked for a period of time.

Design of 3-Dimension Remote Controller Applying the EMD Algorithm which Attenuates the Effect of Noise

  • In this study, a remote controller was designed using localization technique. The designed remote controller system consists of infrared transmit/receive module for time synchronization, ultrasonic transmit/receive module for measuring the TOA value, and micro-controller for processing the measured data value. For the position estimation method of remote controller, the Savarese method was used which does not have a problem of diverging solution depending on initial value. The noise included in the measured value was removed by separating the signal and noise with the use of EMD method which is the non-stationary signal analysis technique. The designed system was tested by constructing a simulation environment, and the improvement of accuracy and precision for the application of EMD method was examined.

  • The problem of amplitude-and frequency-modulated waveforms is analyzed when a linearly polarized electromagnetic wave is scattered by a slowly rotating rotor with metal plates. ECM in conjunction with a quasi-stationary method is used to analyze the modulated waveforms. The modulated waveforms depend on the orientation and dimension of the object. its rotation speed, and very strongly on the incident and scattering directions. The modulate waveforms of a rotating non-skewed metal plate and a rotor with two blades are functions of twice the rotating frequency of those. Similar results are discussed for a rotating skewed metal plate, but the modulated waveforms is a function of the rotating frequency. Numerical results based on our ECM are presented and compared with those of Sikta's and PO solution.

  • In this paper an application technique of moment equation method to solution of nonlinear rolling equation of motion of ships is investigated. The exciting moment in the equation of rolling motion of ships is described as non-white noise. This non-white exciting moment is generated through use of a shaping filter. These coupled equations are used to generate moment equations. The nonstationary responses of the nonlinear system are obtained. The results are compared with those of a linear system.
