This paper deals with the obeying ability to the crack of waterproof membrane (produced from polybutadiene- or epoxy type resine) under static and repetitive loading, and an increase in fatigue life of marine concrete structure by applying the waterproof membrane. From experimental results, it is cleared that the obeying ability for crack under repetitive loading is smaller than that under static loading. With regard to fatigue life, the use of membrane possessed large obeying performance under repetitive loading results in significantly increase in fatigue life of marine concrete structure
This study investigated the changes in engineering characteristics of sand-tire chip mixtures during repetitive loading. To quantify the changes in the maximum shear modulus according to the tire chip content in the mixtures and the particle size ratio between sand particle and tire chip, the samples were prepared with tire chip content of TC = 0, 10, 20, 40, 60, and 100%, and the particle size ratios SR were also set to be SR = 0.44, 1.27, 1.87, and 4.00. The stress of the prepared sample was applied through a pneumatic cylinder. The experiment was conducted in the order of static loading (= 50 kPa), cyclic loading (= 50-150 kPa), static loading (= 400 kPa) and unloading. The stress applied to tested mixtures was controlled by a pressure panel and a pneumatic valve by using an air compressor. The shear wave velocity was measured during static and cyclic loadings by installing bender elements at the upper and lower caps of the mold. The results demonstrated that the change in maximum shear modulus of all tested materials with varying SR during repetitive loading is the most significant when TC ~ 40%. In addition, the mixture with smaller SR at a given TC shows greater increase in maximum shear modulus during repetitive loading.

When the tracked vehicle is running on various types of terrain, the physical properties of the interacting ground can be different. In this paper, the interactions between track link and soft soil ground are investigated using static sinkage theory of soil ground. Grouser surfaces of a track link and triangular patches of ground are implemented for contact detection algorithm. Contact force at each segment area of a track link is computed respectively by using virtual work concept. Bekker's static soil sinkage model is applied for pressure-sinkage relationship and shear stress-shear displacement relationship proposed by Janosi and Hanamoto is used for tangential shear forces. The repetitive normal loads of a terrain are considered because a terrain element is subject to the repetitive loading of the roadwheels of a tracked vehicle. The methods how to apply Bekker's soil theory for multibody track system are proposed in this investigation and demonstrated numerically by high mobility tracked vehicle.

Ductile behavior and strength of concrete-filled steel(CFS) piers was supported by many quasi-static cyclic loading tests. This test method, however, only estimates the member′s deformation capacity under escalating and repetitive displacement and ignores dynamic and random aspects of an earthquake load. Therefore, to understand complete seismic behavior of the structure against an earthquake, dynamic tests such as shaking table test and pseudo-dynamic tests are required as well as quasi-static tests. In this paper, following "Seismic Performance of Concrete-Filled Steel Piers Part I : Quasi-Static Cyclic Loadint Test", the seismic behavior of CFS and steel piers designed for I-Soo overpass in Seoul in investigated by the pseudo-dynamic test. In addition, the residual strength of both piers after an earthquake is estimated by the quasi-static test. The results show that both piers have satisfactory ductility and strength against well-known EI Centro earthquake although the CFS pier has better strength and energy dissipation than the steel pier.
This paper reports several plane-strain trapdoor tests conducted to investigate the effects of reinforcement on soil arching development under localized surface loading with a loading plate width three times the trapdoor width. An analogical soil composed of aluminum rods with three different diameters was used as the backfill and Kraft paper with two different stiffness values was used as the reinforcement material. Four reinforcement arrangements were investigated: (1) no reinforcement, (2) one low stiffness reinforcement R1, (3) one high stiffness reinforcement R2, and (4) two low stiffness reinforcements R1 with a backfill layer in between. The stiffness of R2 was approximately twice that of R1; therefore, two R1 had approximately the same total stiffness as one R2. Test results indicate that the use of reinforcement minimized soil arching degradation under localized surface loading. Soil arching with reinforcement degraded more at unloading stages as compared to that at loading stages. The use of stiffer reinforcement had the advantages of more effectively minimizing soil arching degradation. As compared to one high stiffness reinforcement layer, two low stiffness reinforcement layers with a backfill layer of certain thickness in between promoted soil arching under localized surface loading. Due to different states of soil arching development with and without reinforcement, an analytical multi-stage soil arching model available in the literature was selected in this study to calculate the average vertical pressures acting on the trapdoor or on the deflected reinforcement section under both the backfill self-weight and localized surface loading.

Cumulative damage characteristics of concrete, on which rapetitive loads are applied, are investigated. Preliminarily, a series of uniaxial compression tests on cylindrical specimens of plain concrete is carried out to find out that, among various factors, stress levels of repetitive loadings and loading order are the most governing factors of cumulative damage of concrete. Based on this preliminary study, fatigue tests are carried out applying two levels of stresses, stepwisely. As a result, it is found that characteristics of cumulative damage of concrete are governed by nonlinear relationships and do not follow Miner's linear theory. It is also observed that cumulative damage characteristics and static strengths of concrete vary with loading history of stresses. Empirical equations which may be useful in predicting fatigue characteristics and remaining life of concrete stuctures are proposed for concrete subjected two stress levels.

In order to fulfill the needs of reliable and economically feasible foundation, engineers should consider not only the working load that can endure extreme conditions but also apprehending precise behavior of continuous dynamic load while designing the foundation of offshore wind power generators. To actualize the foundation, a model pile was made in miniature. Also, calibration chamber was made and a 500mm height of sand-bed was made to perform "static lateral load experiment" and "repetitive loading experiment", total of two Lateral load tests. As a result, in Static Lateral load test, the bigger length/diameter of model pile led an increase in load displacement. However, when performing "Cyclic Lateral load test", the increase in number of under loading led the decrease in horizontal displacement from each repeated lateral load. While performing Static Lateral load test and repeated loading experiment, we could observe the decreasing in the rate of ultimate lateral load capacity increase of the pile. Also, it turned out that the higher relative density of the ground, the lower ultimate lateral load capacity by repeated horizontal loading.
Based on clinical observations, it is suspected that the bone-tendon origin is the site where piratical failure, leading to pathophysiological changes in the humeral epicondyle after repetitive loading, is initiated Mechanical properties and failure patterns of the common extensor and flexor tendons of the humeral epicondyle under static and repetitive loading have not been well documented. Our goal was to determine mechanical properties of failure strength and strain changes, to correlate strain changes and the number of cyclic repetitions, and to identify the failure pattern of bone-tendon specimens of common extensor and flexor tendons of the humeral epicondyle. Mechnaical properties of human cadaver bone-tendon specimens of the common extensor and flexor tendons of the humeral epicondyle were tested under two different loading rates. No statistically significant difference in ultimate tensile strength was found between male and female specimens or between slow (10 mm/sec) and fast elongation (100 mm/sec) rates. However, a statistically significant difference in ultimate tensile strength between the common extensor (1190.0 N/$cm^2{\pm}$388.8) and flexor 1922.0 N/$cm^2{\pm}$764.4)tendons was found (p<0.05). When loads of 25%, 33%, and 41% of the ultimate tensile strength of their contralateral sides were applied, the number of cycles required to reach 24% strain change for the common extersor and flexor tendons were approximately 8,893, 1,907, and 410, respectively. The relationship between cycles and loads was correlated ($R^2$=0.46) Histological observation showed that complete or partial failure after tensile or cyclic loadings occurred at the transitional zone, which is the uncalcified fibrocartilage zone between tendon and bone of the humeral epicondyle. Sequential histological sections revealed that failure initiated at the upper, medial aspect of the extensor carpi radialis brevis tendon origin. Biomechanical and hstological data obtained in this study indicated that the uncalcified fibrocartilage zone at the bone-tendon origin of the common extensor and flexor tendons is the weak anatomical structure of the humeral epicondyle.
The display industry is transitioning from traditional rigid products such as flat panel displays to flexible or wearable ones designed to be folded or rolled. Accordingly, colorless and optically transparent polyimide (CPI) films are one of the prime candidates to substitute traditional cover glass as a passivation layer to accommodate product flexibility. However, CPI films subjected to repetitive pure bending loads inevitably entail an accumulation of residual strain that can eventually cause wrinkles or delamination in the underlying component after a certain number of static and cyclic loading. The purpose of this study is to establish an experimental method to systematically evaluate the bending residual strain of CPI films. Films were monotonically and cyclically wrapped on mandrels of various diameters to ensure a constant strain in each. After unwrapping the wound CPI film, the residual radius of curvature remaining on the film was measured and converted into residual strain. The critical radius of curvature at which residual strain does not remain was about 5 mm, and the residual strain decreased in proportion to the log time. It is expected that flexible displays can be reliably designed using the data between the applied bending strain and the residual strain.
