Accurate measurement of speed and altitude of flying vehicles in air data system remains a critical technical issue. A highly reliable Pitot-static probe is required to obtain air data such as total pressure and static pressure. In this study, an analysis of the characteristics of flowfield around the Pitot-static probe was performed by using a Navier-Stokes CFD code. In addition, for the purpose of finding an optimal configuration, a technique based on the response surface method is applied to the problem with design parameters including shape of the nose section and cone angle. It is shown that the optimal configuration fulfills the MIL specification in wider range of high angles of attack.
Seismic analysis methods in use on ground structure are equivalentstatic analysis, response-displacement method and dynamic analysis etc. Equivalentstatic analysis does not considerdynamic effect, and dynamic analysis process is very complex. then 'Urbanrail transit earthquake-resistance design standard (2005.06)' is persuading that analyze by response displacement method that consider enough dynamic effect of ground structure statically. But, It is very complex and difficult to apply response-displacement method in the field. So, modified equivalentstatic analysis or pseudo static analysis that is easy to apply in the field and have rationality of design is practically used. In this study, I try to prescribe the applicable scale of structure and static analysis that have calculative effectiveness about response-displacement method by comparing and analyzing the result of each analysis method according to the scale of urban rail transit' box type concrete structure and by performing seismic analysis that apply modified equivalentstatic analysis, pseudo static analysis and response-displacement method changing the kind of ground, depth of bedrock, size of structure.
The corrugated panels are the prime candidate structure for the floor, roof and wall of Korean high speed train. The equivalent continuum modeling approach panels can be used for the efficient design and evaluation of their structural characteristics. The equivalent continuum models, derived from the true complex corrugated panels, should have the same structural behavior as the original structures have. This paper briefly reviews three representative continuum modeling methods: the static analysis method and two plate-models based on modal analysis methods (MAM). These methods are evaluated through some numerical examples by comparing the natural frequencies and static deflections. It is observed that the plate-model based on Rayleigh-Ritz method seems to provide the best results when used in conjunction with the cantilever-type boundary conditions. The equivalent elastic constants of various corrugated panels, depending on the changes in their configurations, are tabulated for efficient use in structural design.

This paper describes design of an algorithm for analyzing human activity using body-fixed 3-axis accelerometer in the small of the back. In the first step, we distinguish static and dynamic activity period using AC signal analysis. Then five postures were classified by applying the threshold in DC signal corresponding to the static activity period. Also, after comparison of average power and taking negative peak signal in the dynamic activity period, the four dynamic activities were classified by adaptive threshold method. To evaluate the performance of the proposed algorithm, the measured signals obtained from six subjects were applied to the proposed algorithm and the results were compared with the simultaneously measured video data. As a result, the activity classification rate of 95.7% on average was obtained. Overall results show that the proposed classification algorithm has a possibility to be used to analyze the static and dynamic physical activity.
The proposed preamplifier for the static random access memory reduces the time required for the sense amplifier enable during the read operation by 55%, which leads to a significant speed up the total spped. This is attirbuted to the novel circuit techqniue that cancels out the transistor mismatch which is induced by the process variation. In addition, a selective enable circuit for preamplifier circuit is proposed, so the proposed preamplifier is enabled only when it is required. Accordingly the energy overhead is limited below 4.45%.

Since 1980's, optimum design techniques for ship structural design have been developed to the preliminary design which aims at minimum weight or minimum cost design of mid-ship section based on analytic structural analysis. But the optimum structural design researches about the application for the detail design of local structure based on FEA have been still insufficient. This paper presents optimization technique for the detail design of a racing motor boat. To improve the performance and reduce the damage of a real existing racing boat, direct structural analyses; static and non-linear transient dynamic analyses, were carried out to check the constraints of minimum weight design. As a result, it is shown that the optimum structural design of a racing boat has to be focused on reducing impulse response from pitching motion than static response because the dynamic effect is more dominant. Optimum design algorithm based on nonlinear finite element analysis for a racing motor boat was developed and coded to ANSYS, and its applicability for actual structural design was verifed.
Many experimental and analytical studies have been conducted with beam-column subassemblages composed of a two-span beam to investigate the progressive collapse resistance of RC frames. Most study results reveal a strength-decreased transition phase in the nonlinear static load-deflection curve, which may induce dynamic snap-through response and increase the chord rotation demand for effective catenary action (ECA). In this study, the nonlinear static response is idealized as a piecewise linear curve and analytical pseudo-static response is derived for each linearized region to investigate the rotation demands for the ECA of the two-span RC beams. With analytical parameters determined from several published test results, numerical analysis results indicate that the rotation demand of 0.20 rad recommended in the design guidelines does not always guarantee the ECA. A higher rotation demand may be induced for the two-span beams designed with smaller span-to-depth ratios and it is better to use their peak arch resistance (PAR) as the collapse strength. A tensile reinforcement ratio not greater than 1.0% and a span-to-depth ratio not less than 7.0 are suggested for the two-span RC beams bridging the removed column if the ECA is expected for the collapse resistance. Also, complementary pseudo-static analysis is advised to verify the ECA under realistic dynamic column loss even though the static PAR is recovered in the nonlinear static response. A practical empirical formula is provided to estimate an approximate rotation demand for the ECA.

A static load analysis of twin-screw kneaders is required not only for the dynamic analysis, but also because it is the basis of the stiffness and strength calculations that are essential for the design of bearings. In this paper, the static loads of twin-screw kneaders are analyzed, and a mathematical model of the force and torque moments is presented using a numerical integration method based on differential geometry theory. The calculations of the force and torque moments of the twin-screw kneader are given. The results show that the $M_x$ and $M_y$ components of the fluid resistance torque of the rotors change periodically in each rotation cycle, but the $M_z$ component remains constant. The axis forces $F_z$ in the female and male rotors are also constant. The static load calculated by the proposed method tends to be conservative compared to traditional methods. The proposed method not only meets the static load analysis requirements for twin-screw kneaders, but can also be used as a static load analysis method for screw pumps and screw compressors.

Automobile crash optimization is nonlinear dynamic response structural optimization that uses highly nonlinear crash analysis in the time domain. The equivalent static loads (ESLs) method has been proposed to solve such problems. The ESLs are the static load sets generating the same displacement field as that of nonlinear dynamic analysis. Linear static response structural optimization is employed with the ESLs as multiple loading conditions. Nonlinear dynamic analysis and linear static structural optimization are repeated until the convergence criteria are satisfied. Nonlinear dynamic crash analysis for frontal analysis may not have boundary conditions, but boundary conditions are required in linear static response optimization. This study proposes a method to use the inertia relief method to overcome the mismatch. An optimization problem is formulated for the design of an automobile frontal structure and solved by the proposed method.
Biped humanoids maintain their stability through precise controls during locomotion or operation. Dynamic forces are applied to the humanoid structure during locomotion or operation. If the humanoid has weakness from a structural viewpoint, these forces cause severe deformation or vibration of the structure, which can make the humanoid unstable. In this research, a design scenario is proposed to design a robust humanoid structure under the dynamic loads. The pelvis part is selected for design practice. Multibody dynamics is adopted to calculate the dynamic loads and a structural optimization technique is employed to design the pelvis structures. Since it is extremely difficult directly consider the dynamic loads in the optimization process, equivalent static loads are evaluated from the dynamic loads and the design result are discussed.
