When investigating optimum design of the evaporator in the refrigeration and heat pump systems, there is still lack of data for the dynamic characteristics of the evaporator, This is due to the fact that the static characteristics in the evaporator are absolutely difficult to measure and are burdened with uncertainties. In this study, the simulation works for static characteristics in the evaporator of small air conditioner are carried out to obtain the data of dynamic characteristics. In the simulation, the test evaporator is divided by two-phase evaporating region and single-phase heating region. The major parameters are refrigerant flow rate, heat transfer coefficient of air, air velocity and air temperature. The results show that the calculation method for tube length is an easy-to-use to model analysis of static characteristics and to determine state of refrigerant in the evaporator. The effects of the four parameters on the length of evaporating completed point and heat flow rate to the evaporator are clarified.

CVT(Continuously Variable Transmission) is one of the most promising candidates for the future automobile transmission because of its continuously variable gear ratio and reduced shift shock. It is also possible to operate the power source at its high efficiency region with CVT. The CVT system consists of thrust plate, driving pulley, belt, driven pulley, and preload spring of output shaft. In this paper, the dynamic modeling of a CVT system is completed to obtain the static performances of CVT system. A simulator is implemented on Matlab(Simulink), which can analyse the static performances of a CVT system. The methods for improving the total efficiency of a motorcycle system are also proposed based on the simulation results. In this study we increase the capacity factor of CVT up to the three times of default specification.
We address a novel approach to identify a nonlinear dynamic system for Wiener models, which are composed of a linear dynamic system part followed by a nonlinear static part. The aim of system identification here is to provide the optimal mathematical model of both the linear dynamic and the nonlinear static parts in some appropriate sense. Assuming the nonlinear static part is invertible, we approximate the inverse function by a piecewise linear function. We estimate the piecewise linear inverse function by using the evolutionary computation approach such as genetic algorithm (GA) and evolution strategies (ES), while we estimate the linear dynamic system part by the least squares method. The results of numerical simulation studies indicate the usefulness of proposed approach to the Wiener model identification.
Linear induction motors have static and dynamic end effects due to its finite core length, so that per-phase impedances are asymmetric and the air gap flux distribution is distorted. Because of these points the d-q equivalent circuit model considering both end effects has not been exactly completed. So this paper proposes a characteristic analysis method considering both static and dynamic end effect of the LIM. This method is to utilize asymmetric d-q equivalent circuit model with dynamic end effect coefficient. As a result, it is shown that the simulation results have a good agreement with experimental ones.

Previous research for visual assessment of streetscape employed static simulation methods to represent future landscape. However, streetscape is experienced sequentially, and thus dynamic simulations can be more effective. This study tried to adopt computer animation in the evaluation of streetscape, and examined its effects and possibilities. Three development scenarios for the redevelopment districts of Sokong-Ro and Banpo-Ro in Seoul were designed, and simulations were produced by three methods-photo-retouching, computer still image, and animation. A preference questionnaire was asked to 69 university students, and the effects of simulation methods on visual preference were examined. In addition, the frames of the animation were reclassed to identify the visibility of physical elements. The relationships between the visibility and visual preference were analyzed. The results showed that visual preference can be explained by three factors-Amenity, Tidiness, and Variousness-that account for 62.4% of the total variance, and the Amenity showed the highest proportion: 36.0%. Among the three simulation methods, animation showed the largest difference in preference for the most important factor(Amenity), and yielded the highest correlation between visibility of physical elements and Amenity. This result demonstrated that dynamic simulations can provide more accurate observation of visual changes, especially because the simulated landscape is experienced sequentially. The results also revealed that the sequential change in the visibility of physical elements can be examined easily and precisely by animation. This benefit of animation enables analysts to identify the points where the landscape varies the most, and thus visual preference should be evaluated.
This paper describes the dynamic modeling of a railway vehicle when it is under braking force. It is important for the enhancement of braking performance to establish a proper dynamic model of a railway vehicle because the braking performance is affected by some dynamic forces generated by a railway vehicle when it undergoes braking. In this paper, a dynamic model for one vehicle is suggested to compute the dynamic behavior of a railway vehicle in the HILS(Hardware In-the-loop Simulation) system for the railway vehicle braking devices. To simplify the dynamic model, friction between a wheel and a rail is assumed that there exist only the static and the dynamic friction forces. Static friction coefficient is also assumed to be a function of the running speed. Some simulations are carried out with various braking forces, and the braking characteristics according to the change of the braking force are discussed. This study can provide some fundamental results to construct the HILS system for braking devices of a railway vehicle.

The machining accuracy and performance is largely influenced by the static, dynamic and thermal characteristics of spindle systems in machine tools, because the spindle system is a intermedium for cutting force from tool and machine powef from motor. Large cutting force and power are transmitted by bearing with a point or line contact. So, the spindle system is the static and dynamic weakest point in machine structure. For improvement of static stiffness of spindle system can be changed design parameters, such as diameter of spindle, stiffness of bearing and bearing span. But for dynamic stiffness, the change of the design parameters are not useful. In this paper, the combined bearing arrangement is suggested for high damping spindle system. The combined bearing arrangement is composed of tandem double back to back arrangement type ball bearins and a high damping hydrostatic bearing. The variation of static deflection and amplitude in first natural frequency is evaluated with the location of hydrostatic bearing between front and rear ball bearing. The optimized location of hydrostatic bearing for high static and dynamic stiffness is determined rapidly and exactly using the mode shape and transfer function of spindle. The calculation of damping effect on vibration by unbalance of grinding wheel and pulley in optimized spindle system is carried out to verify the validity of the combined bearing arrangement. Finally, the simulation of grinding process show that the surface roughness of workpiece with high damping spindle system is 60% better than with ball bearing spindle system.

This paper presents an advanced dynamic simulation model of a proton exchange membrane fuel cell for the optimal design of a fuel cell power conditioning system (FC-PCS). For the development of fuel cell models, the dynamic characteristics of the fuel cell are considered, including its static characteristics. Then, software fuel cell simulation is realized using Matlab-Simulink. Specifically, the design consideration of PCS (i.e., power semiconductor switch, capacitor, and inductor) is discussed by comparatively analyzing the developed simulator and ideal DC source. In addition, a cosimulation between the fuel cell model and PCS realized using the PSIM software is performed with the help of the SimCoupler module. Detailed analysis and informative simulation results are provided for the optimal design of fuel cell PCS.
A novel probabilistic approach is presented for estimating the equivalent static wind loads that produce a static response of the structure, which is "equivalent" in a probabilistic sense, to the extreme dynamic responses due to the unsteady pressure random field induced by the wind. This approach has especially been developed for complex structures (such as stadium roofs) for which the unsteady pressure field is measured in a boundary layer wind tunnel with a turbulent incident flow. The proposed method deals with the non-Gaussian nature of the unsteady pressure random field and presents a model that yields a good representation of both the quasi-static part and the dynamical part of the structural responses. The proposed approach is experimentally validated with a relatively simple application and is then applied to a stadium roof structure for which experimental measurements of unsteady pressures have been performed in boundary layer wind tunnel.
