규산나트륨으로부터 Tetrahydrofuran으로 추출된 규산을 이용한 Mullite 전구체 제조 (Preparation of Mullite Precursor Using Silicic Acid Extracted by Tetrahydrofuran from Sodium Silicate)

  • 콜로이드 졸-겔법에 의해 초미립자 mullite 분말을 제조하였다. Al2O3의 출발 물질로 aluminum isopropoxide $[Al(i-OC_3H_7)_3]$을, $SiO_2$ 출발 물질로 규산 나트륨으로부터 tetrahydrofuran(이후 THF로 약기함)으로 추출한 규산을 사용하였다. 규산 나트륨은 규산을 생성시키기 위하여 묽은 황산으로 산성화시킨 다음 THF로 추출하였다. Mullite 분말은 졸-겔법에 의해서 Si 추출율와 Na 제거율을 조사한 규산과 aluminum isopropoxide로 부터 합성되었다. THF로 추출한 규산의 불순물 함량은 0.04% 이하이었다. 합성된 mullite 분말은 $3Al_2O_3{\cdot}2SiO_2$ 조성을 갖고 불순물의 함량은 0.0462% 이하의 직경 $0.05{\mu}m$ 정도의 결정상이었다. EDS, XRD, TG/DSC, SEM, FT-IR, ICP, TEM등으로 mullite 분말의 특성을 조사하였다.

The effects of starting precursor conditions on the phase formation and transport properties of Bi-2223/Ag tapes

  • The influence of starting precursor powders on the phase formation and transport properties of Bi-2223/Ag tapes has been studied. The experimental results show that the average particle size of precursors as fine as 1.64 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ and 1.51 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ can still increase the transport properties. The J$_{c}$-B behavior is also enhanced in tapes fabricated with powders in finer particle sizes. However, at higher magnetic fields, J$_{c}$ of tape started from the powder with the finest particles drops rapidly at the direction of H//c, which is possibly attributed to the small grain sizes and weak flux pinning ability that due to the short induction period at the initial stage of phase formation as the result of fine particles in precursor powder.der.

Oxide precursor-based MOD processing of YBCO thin films

  • A low cost MOD processing using YBCO oxide powder as a starting precursor was employed for fabrication of YBCO thin films. YBCO oxide is advantageous over metal acetates or TFA salts which are popular starting precursors for conventional MOD-TFA process. YBCO thin films were prepared by oxide-precursor-based MOD process and annealing condition was optimized. The YBCO thin film annealed at 78$0^{\circ}C$ shows no transport $I_c$ and poor microstructure. However, the YBCO thin film annealed at higher temperature shows improvement in microstructure and current transport property. In order to improve critical current, YBCO thin film was prepared by double coating method. YBCO thin film prepared with double coating approach shows enhanced superconducting performance ($I_c$>100A/cm-w).

  • The effect of reaction parameters in the characteristic of $Pb(Zr_{0.52} Ti_{0.48})O_3$ powders by hydrothermal process was investigated in this study. In the preparation of PZT, the types of starting material and concentration of mineralizer on phase fraction and morphology was investigated respectively. Regardless the types of Pb precursor, PZT was able to synthesize ranging from 7 to 20 on KOH concentration and from 13.01 to 13.55 on pH of solution. The particle size of the PZT powders can be controlled by the mineralizer concentration and various types of precursor.

Improving Strength in Casting Mold by Control of Starting Material and Process

  • In developing high temperature molds with advantages of the sand and precision (investment) castings, mechanical properties of the mold were improved through homogeneous coating of starting powders with an inorganic binder and improvement of fabrication process. Beads with mullite composition were employed for properties of the mold under high temperature, which was compared with artificial sands. Precursors of silica and sodium oxide were used as starting materials for an inorganic binder to achieve homogeneous coating on the starting powders. Strength was enhanced by the glass phase converted from the inorganic binder through heat treatment process. Also, two kinds of process, wet and dry processes, were incorporated to prepare mold specimens. Consequently, fabrication process of the mold with superior strength and high temperature applicability, compared with the previous molds for sand casting, could be suggested through control of the starting material and enhancement of the vitrification efficiency.

  • A formal total synthesis of aliskiren was accomplished. A key in our synthesis was to use the symmetric ciscisoid-cis-bis-lactone 3' as a precursor, which was prepared from D-tartrate diester. Appending the end groups and functional group transformations completed the synthesis.

  • Superconductor material $Bi_2Sr_2Ca_2Cu_3O_x$(Bi-2223) powders were synthesized by ultrasonic spray pyrolysis method. It is clear that Bi-2223 phase more than Bi-2212 phase was acquired at sufficient synthesized time. Best condition for Bi-2223 phase was synthesizing temperature at $860^{\circ}C$. We also investigated the effects for concentrations and viscosities of starting liquid precursor as well as temperature distribution of reacting furnace. The size of synthesized powder was decreased by decreasing the concentration of starting liquid precursor. Modified reacting furnace with four different temperature heating zones gave us successful results for desirable nano-powder including $Bi_2Sr_2Ca_2Cu_3O_x$ phase. Citric acid addition to starting liquid precursor showed increasing of the size for synthesized powder. Bi-2223 single phase was acquired from Bi2223 and Bi-2212 mixed phases through heat treatment in box furnace at 24 hours.

$MgB_2$ 초전도체의 합성에 미치는 고에너지 밀링에 의한 초기 보론 분말의 특성 (Characterization of the High Energy Milled Boron Precursor Powders in the Synthesis of $MgB_2$ Superconductor)

  • We characterized the highly refined boron precursor powders which were attrition milled for different milling times. $MgB_2$ powder precursor was formed from elemental crystalline Mg and amorphous B powder. The microstructure was investigated by SEM. SEM results indicate that the size of the milled powders was reduced with increasing milling time, which were varied from 0 to 8 hours. We also studied thermal behavior of the starting precursor by DSC as a function of milling time. The thermal behavior of the powder precursors was influenced by milling time. In order to determine the thermal events at DSC peaks, we annealed the milled powder mixture at $600^{\circ}C$ and $650^{\circ}C$ under protective gas and then analyzed the formation of $MgB_2$ by the XRD. We observed that superconducting $MgB_2$ phase was formed at lower temperature by the longer high energy milling. These results show that the high energy milling of the boron precursor powder can improve the reactivity for the formation of $MgB_2$.

산화물 전구체를 이용한 YBCO 박막제조에서 열처리조건의 최적화 (Optimization of annealing conditions in oxide-precursor-based MOD process for YBCO thin films)

  • A low cost YBCO oxide powder was employed as a starting precursor for MOD process. YBCO oxide is advantageous over metal acetates or TFA salts which are popular starting precursors for conventional MOD-TFA process because that YBCO oxide precursor is cheap and easy to control molar ratio. YBCO thin films were prepared by this oxide-precursor-based MOD process and annealing condition was optimized. The YBCO thin film annealed at below $780^{\circ}C$ shows no transport $I_c$ and poor microstructure. Raman spectroscopic study of YBCO thin film indicates that YBCO thin film prepared at below $780^{\circ}C$ contains a number of imperfections such as non-superconducting $BaCuO_2$ phase, cation disorder, etc. However, the YBCO thin film treated at above $800^{\circ}C$ shows improvement in microstructure and current transport properties. Effect of Valproic acid, a Histone Deacetylase Inhibitor, on the Expression of Pluripotency and Neural Crest Specific Marker Genes in Murine Multipotent Skin Precursor Cells

  • Cells that have endogenous multipotent properties can be used as a starting source for the generation of induced pluripotent cells (iPSC). In addition, small molecules associated with epigenetic reprogramming are also widely used to enhance the multi- or pluripotency of such cells. Skinderived precursor cells (SKPs) are multipotent, sphereforming and embryonic neural crest-related precursor cells. These cells can be isolated from a juvenile or adult mammalian dermis. SKPs are also an efficient starting cell source for reprogramming and the generation of iPSCs because of the high expression levels of Sox2 and Klf4 in these cells as well as their endogenous multipotency. In this study, valproic acid (VPA), a histone deacetylase (HDAC) inhibitor, was tested in the generation of iPSCs as a potential enhancer of the reprogramming potential of SKPs. SKPs were isolated from the back skins of 5-6 week old C57BL/6 X DBA/2 F1 mice. After passage 3, the SKPs was treated with 2 mM of VPA and the quantitative real time RT-PCR was performed to quantify the expression of Oct4 and Klf4 (pluripotency specific genes), and Snai2 and Ngfr (neural crest specific genes). The results show that Oct4 and Klf4 expression was decreased by VPA treatment. However, there were no significant changes in neural crest specific gene expression following VPA treatment. Hence, although VPA is one of the most potent of the HDAC inhibitors, it does not enhance the reprogramming of multipotent skin precursor cells in mice.
