A ground-source heat pump system (GSHP) is more energy efficient than other heat-source systems because it uses annual constant underground and water temperatures. Especially, two-well geothermal systems using groundwater as the heat source can achieve higher performance than closed-loop geothermal systems. However, performance of two-well geothermal systems is decreased by occurring overflow according to scale during long-term operations. Therefore, this study presents a two-well pairing geothermal system that controls the groundwater level of a diffusion well. In addition, a two-well pairing geothermal system and an SCW geothermal system were installed, and a comparative analysis of cooling performance depending on system operation under the same load conditions was conducted. The result was that the average heat pump coefficient of performance (COP) of the two-well pairing system was 6.5, and the entire system COP was 4.3.
This study performed a single hole operation method using a balancing well-cross-mixed underground heat exchanger, and conducted thermal performance studies of an SCW-type underground heat exchanger using a two-well. The study attempted to change the existing operating method of the two adjacent SCW underground heat exchangers with one ball each. The SCW-type geothermal heat exchanger is considered to enable up to 20% of bleed discharge at maximum load, which makes groundwater usage unequal. The efficiency factor of the geothermal system was improved by constructing the discharged water by cross-mixing two balancing wells to prevent the discharge of groundwater sources and keep the temperature of the underground heat exchanger constant. As a result of the cooling and heating operation with the existing SCW heat exchange system and the balancing well-cross-mixed heat exchange system, the measured performance coefficient improved by 23% and 12% in cooling and heating operations, respectively. In addition, when operating with a balanced cross-mixing heat exchange system, it has been confirmed that the initial basement temperature is constant with a standard deviation of 0.08 to 0.12℃.

SMB (simulated moving bed) is a continuous chromatographic process by shifting periodically port position. Binary of mixture, Blue dextran and Orange G, was separated by SMB. These components have unique color individually, that is, Blue dextran is blue and Orange G is orange. It is easy to understand SMB process by observing the shift of color changes in SMB. These components was not adsorbed to stationary phase and isolated by difference of size exclusion factor. Mass transfer coefficient was determined by single pulse test under several flow rate conditions. Operation condition was obtained by standing wave theory and optimized for high purities in extract and raffinate streams. Experiment was performed in open loop 4 zone (2-2-2-2) SMB. There are several advantages in open loop SMB, where extract is product for high purity. It is also easy to control flow rate and monitor experimental state during operation. Experimental, extract and raffinate history is well fitted with simulation results, however, column concentration profile is a little different from simulation results. Purities were 99.5% for extract and 98.9% for raffinate and extract and raffinate yields were obtained as 98.9% and 99.4% respectively.
For the reasonable use of low grade-shallow geothermal energy by Standing Column Well(SCW) system, the basic requirements are depth-wise increase of earth temperature like $2^{\circ}C$ per every 100m depth, sufficient amount of groundwater production being about 10 to 30% of the design flow rate of GSHP with good water quality and moderate temperature, and non-collapsing of borehole wall during reinjection of circulating water into the SCW. A closed loop type-vertical ground heat exchanger(GHEX) with $100{\sim}150m$ deep can supply geothermal energy of 2 to 3 RT but a SCW with $400{\sim}500m$ deep can provide $30{\sim}40RT$ being equivalent to 10 to 15 numbers of GHEX as well requires smaller space. Being considered as an alternative of vertical GHEX, many numbers of SCW have been widely constructed in whole country without any account for site specific hydrogeologic and geothermal characteristics. When those are designed and constructed under the base of insufficient knowledges of hydrgeothermal properties of the relevant specific site as our current situations, a bad reputation will be created and it will hamper a rational utilization of geothermal energy using SCW in the near future. This paper is prepared for providing a guideline of SCW design comportable to our hydrogeothermal system.

While the vertical open type of heat exchanger is more effective in areas of abundant groundwater, and is becoming more widely used, the heat exchanger most commonly used in geothermal heating and cooling systems in Korea is the vertical closed loop type. In this study, we performed numerical simulations of the optimal utilization of geothermal energy based on the hydrogeological and thermal properties to evaluate the efficiency of the vertical open type in areas of abundant groundwater supply. The first simulation indicated that the vertical open type using groundwater directly is more efficient than the vertical closed loop type in areas of abundant groundwater. Furthermore, a doublet system with separated injection and extraction wells was more efficient because the temperature difference (${\Delta}$) between the injection and extraction water generated by heat exchange with the ground is large. In the second simulation, we performed additional numerical simulations of the optimal utilization of geothermal energy that incorporated heat transfer, distance, flow rate, and groundwater hydraulic gradient targeting a single well, SCW (standing column well), and doublet. We present a flow diagram that can be used to select the optimal type of heat exchanger based on these simulation results. The results of this study indicate that it is necessary to examine the adequacy of the geothermal energy utilization system based on the hydrogeological and thermal properties of the area concerned, and also on a review of the COP (coefficient of performance) of the geothermal heating and cooling system.

Recently, an interest in the use of renewable energy has been growing up due to the rise of raw material price, international oil price and depletion of fossil energy. Ground source heat pump system has a high efficiency by using the constant temperature of underground and various types of the systems have been installed and utilized in the building. there are few studies on the system performance factors in the SCW system. Furthermore, even though the performance of the system depends on the temperature of heat source, the research on their relationship is rare. In this research, in order to analyze the performance factor for the open-loop system the monitoring of the real building with the standing column well systems and the simulation with building model were conducted.

Ground source heat pump system; GSHPs is close to most practical use for early stage investment cost and energy efficiency in new renewable energies, and currently considered utilizing to the heat and cooling system of a building. Particularly, the case to utilize 'Standing Column well heat source gathering method' in the open standards process to have the excellent capability of gathering geothermal source is increased. But the research for the optimal design technology and the assessment of a pollution level of the ground to utilize a single well for gathering geothermal is insignificant and the design is insufficient. The heating and cooling system and the equipment to utilize a large size residential development to have over 1000 households have not developed yet. Therefore, our company developed 'geothermal hybrid system' which can construct the heat and cooling system using geothermal energy for a large size residential development of over 1000 households and conducted the evaluation of economic feasibility. Moreover we developed automatic equipment for gathering geothermal source and PLC (Programmable logic controller) to have optimal efficiency and FCU (fan coil unit) considering the floors of large size apartments.
Groundwater heat pump systems are the oldest of the ground-souce systems and it has various type. Standing column well type are must be located in hard rock geology site and produce sufficient water for the conventional open loop system. These system are indirect type(the building circulating loop and ground water are intercept). Existence of the exchanger the foundation protect water quality to use of open loop. The design of open loop system are concern on the power requirements. An experimental study was analysis the extremely heating operation COP of ground water heat pump system. Operation efficiency of the 50RT systems shows that, COP $2.9{\sim}5.0$ in heating operation. And generally it shows 3.4.
Studies of the thermal properties of various rock types obtained from several locations in Korea have revealed significant differences in thermal conductivities in the thermal response test (TRT), which has been applied to the design of a ground-source heat pump system. In the present study, we aimed to compare the thermal conductivities of the samples with those obtained by TRT. The thermal conductivities of soil and rock samples were 1.32W/m-K and 2.88 W/m-K, respectively. In comparison, the measured TRT value for thermal conductivity was 3.13W/m-K, which is 10% higher than that of the rock samples. We consider that this difference may be due to groundwater flow because abundant groundwater is present in the study area and has a hydraulic conductivity of 0.01. It is natural to consider that the object of TRT is to calculate the original thermal conductivity of the ground, following the line source theory. Therefore, we conclude that the TRT applied to a domestic standing column type well is not suitable for a line source theory. To solve these problems, values of thermal conductivity measured directly from samples should be used in the design of ground-source heat pump systems.

Recently, the applications of the standing column well (SCW) ground heat exchanger (GHX) have increased significantly in Korea as a heat transfer mechanism of ground source heat pump systems (GSHP) because of its high heat capacity and efficiency. Among the various design and operating parameters, bleeding was found to be the most important parameter for improving the thermal performance, such as ground thermal conductivity and borehole thermal resistance. In this study, a bleeding analysis model was developed using the thermal response test data, and the effects of bleeding rates and bleeding locations on the thermal performance of anSCW were investigated. The results show that, when the ground water flows into the top of anSCW, the time variation of circulating water temperature decreased with increasing bleeding rate, and the ground thermal conductivity increases by as much as 179% with a 30% bleeding rate. When the ground water flows into the bottom of the SCW, the circulating water temperatures become almost constant after the increase in the beginning time because the circulating water exchanges heat with the ground structure before mixing with the ground water at the bottom.
