하고초 메탄올 추출물의 항산화 활성 (Antioxidant Activities of Methanol Extracts from Prunella vulgaris)

  • 하고초를 부위별(전초, 꽃대 및 줄기)로 메탄올 추출하여 항산화 활성을 비교하였다. 총 페놀화합물은 꽃대에서 77.1 mg/100 g으로 다른 부위에 비해 유의적인 차이를 보였으며, 전초와 줄기는 54.0 mg/100 g 이하였다. 플라보노이드는 줄기에서 36.1 mg/100 g으로 가장 높았다. 전자공여능은 시료의 농도에 의존적으로 증가하는 경향으로 $500{\mu}g/mL$ 첨가시에는 70% 이상의 전자공여능을 보였으며, $1000{\mu}g/mL$ 첨가 시 꽃대에서 92.1%로 유의적으로 높았다. 환원력은 전자공여능과 유사한 경향이었으며, 꽃대에서 $100{\sim}1,000{\mu}g/mL$ 첨가 시 $0.3{\sim}1.9$, 전초는 $0.2{\sim}1.6$, 줄기는 $0.2{\sim}1.5$의 범위로 꽃대>전초>줄기 순서로 높았다. Hydroxyl radical 소거능은 $100{\mu}g/mL$ 첨가 시 80% 이상이었으며, 부위별 유의 차가 없었다. $\beta$-carotene-linoleic acid계에서 지질과산화 억제능은 $1000{\mu}g/mL$ 첨가 시 $47.5{\sim}84.6%$로 꽃대에서 항산화능이 가장 높았다. ABTs 라디칼 소거능은 $250{\mu}g/mL$ 첨가 시 50% 이상의 소거능을 보였으며, $500{\sim}1,000{\mu}g/mL$ 첨가 시 $85.0{\sim}92.3%$로 농도 간에 유의차가 없었다. $1000{\mu}g/mL$ 첨가 시 nitric oxide 소거능은 꽃대에서 19.7%로 전초 및 줄기에 비해 유의적으로 높았고, 아질산염 소거능은 꽃대와 줄기에서 각각 30.7%와 32.5%로 전초에 비해 유의적으로 높았다. 이상의 항산화 활성 분석결과를 종합하여 볼때 하고초의 꽃대는 전초 및 줄기에 비해 항산화 활성이 높았는데 이는 페놀화합물의 함량에 의존적인 것으로 추정되며, 꽃대 부위를 선별하여 가공식품 소재로 활용할 경우 하고초의 항산화 활성을 보다 부각시킬 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.

고추의 부위별 카벤다짐과 클로르피리포스의 잔류 양상 (Residue of Pesticides Carbendazim and Chlorpyrifos in Different Parts of Red Pepper)

  • 재배형태별(노지, 비가림 하우스)로 고추의 재배에 사용되는 carbendazim과 chlorpyrifos의부위별 잔류량에 대해 조사를 하였다. carbendazim과 chlorpyrifos 모두 농약 살포 2시간 후에는 비가림하우스보다 노지에서 잔류량이 높았으며, 시일이 경과한 5일과 10일 후에는 오히려 비가림하우스에서 높았다. 노지에서 초기 농약잔류가 비가림하우스보다 높음에도 불구 하고 농약의 분해가 더 빨랐다. 시간이 경과하여 5일차에는 carbendazim이나 chlorpyrifos은 과탁/과경 > 과경/과탁 > 과육의 순으로 농약 잔류가 높았으며, 잎의 농약잔류량은 다른 부위보다 아주 높았다. carbendazim과 chlorpyrifos의 경감율은 수확이 늦추어짐에 따라 감소되지만, 10일차에 과육에서 19.1%와 66.4%, 과탁에서 45.2%와 62.3%, 그리고 과경에서 41.6%와 72.0%로 각각 나타났다. 또한 15일차의 경감율은 과육에서 31.1%와 75.3%, 과탁에서 43.5%와 81.7%, 그리고 과경에서 47.7%와 82.8%로 나타났다. 따라서 carbendazim은 과탁 > 과경 > 과육의 순으로, chlorpyrifos는 과경 > 과탁 > 과육의 순으로 경감율을 보였다. 잔류량 반감기는 carbendazim에서 과육은 29.6일, 과탁은 13.6일, 과경은 16.0일 이었고, chlorpyrifos에서는 과육 8.3일, 과탁 8.3일, 과경 6.3일로 나타났다. 이와 같이 침투성농약인 carbendazim이 chlorpyrifos보다 반감기가 모든 부위에서 길었으며, 부위별로는 두 성분 다 과육에서 반감기가 긴 것으로 나타났다.

메기 송과체의 신경세포에 관한 조직화학 및 전자현미경적 연구 (Histochemical and Electron Microscopic Study on the Nerve Cells of the Pineal Body of Catfish, Parasilurus asotus)

  • This study was carried out to clarify the neuronal organization in pineal body of catfish. The pineal body was observed by acetylcholinesterase histochemistry and electron microscopy. The neuronal types observed in the pineal body of catfish were bipolar and multipolar cells. Multipolar cells were found throughout the pineal end vesicle and whole stalk, but bipolar cells only in the end vesicle and distal stalk. The pineal tract was formed by the long axons of these neurons. The neuronal clusters(pineal ganglia) were also observed in the end vesicle. In summary, the type of neurons in catfish pineal was different from that of other species, and the neuronal distribution differed depending on the region of pineal body. These results reflect the interspecific and regional differences of the pineal organization of fishes.

2011년 한국 연초산지의 병해 발생상황 (Survey of Disease Occurrence in Major Tobacco Fields of Korea, 2011)

  • Major diseases of tobacco plants were surveyed throughout the Korea in 2011. Mosaic, bacterial wilt and hallow stalk were most severe during the harvest season on not only flue-cured tobacco plants but also burley tobacco plants. On flue-cured tobacco plants, mosaic caused by potato virus Y were more severe than those by tobacco mosaic virus or cucumber mosaic virus. The mosaic caused by potato virus Y was severe at Yeongwol and Chungju. On burley tobacco plants, mosaic were more severe at Jeongeup and Gochang than those at Chungnam and Jeonnam. A negative correlation between the mosaic incidence and the precipitation was recognized. On the other hand, there was a positive correlation between the incidence of hallow stalk incidence of flue-cured tobacco plants in harvesting stage and the precipitation during June was recognized significantly.

A Surgical Case of Lymphocytic Hypophysitis with Progressive Visual Worsening

  • Lymphocytic hypophysitis is a clinically rare disease, and it has been known to be an autoimmune disease which mainly affects pregnant women at the end of gestation or right after delivery. The authors experienced a case of lymphocytic hypophysitis in a 29-year-old pregnant woman with rapid progressing visual disturbance. Sella MRI showed a mass-like lesion of hypophysis and hypertrophy of pituitary stalk with evidences of hypopituitarism. Cesarean section was done and then TSA was performed. The pathologic diagnosis was lymphocytic hypophysitis. After TSA, visual acuity was improved and visual field defect was recovered. She was given thyroid hormone replacement therapy because of transient partial hypopituitarism for 6 months after surgery. One must consider the probability of lymphocytic hypophysitis, if there are alteration of visual acuity and visual field defect which aggravate rapidly during pregnancy due to mass effect, decreased serum hormonal levels shown in hypopituitarism and sella MRI findings of hypertrophy of pituitary stalk and enlargement of pituitary gland.

NOx Gas Absorption in the Green Tobacco

  • On-going research has recently documented the certain tobacco specific nitrosamines (TSNAs) are formed during the curing process by an interaction of nitrogen oxides (NOx) contained in combustion gases and naturally occurring compounds in the tobacco leaves. Although the role of TSNAs in human health have been extensively investigated, little research has been conducted on the physical and chemical phenomena relating to their formation during curing. In this paper, we developed a mathematical model for describing NOx absorption into green (uncured) tobacco. We found considerable uptake of NOx by green tobacco with variations related to several factors. Specifically, tobacco from the lower stalk positions (bottom one third) absorbs more NOx gas per unit weight than tobacco from upper stalk positions. Additionally, the green tobacco packed with a density of 0.103 g/㎤ absorbs more NOx gas per unit weight than either 0.0443 g/㎤ or 0.0739 g/㎤. Further, the NOx absorption increases proportionally with temperature with the maximum absorption point around 4$0^{\circ}C$.

Herbaceous Biomass Waste-Derived Activated Carbons for Supercapacitors

  • In the study, herbaceous biomass waste including giant miscanthus, corn stalk, and wheat stalk were used to prepare commercially valuable activated carbons by KOH activation. The waste biomass predominantly consists of cellulose/hemicellulose and lignin, in which decomposition after carbonization and activation contributed to commercially valuable specific surface areas (>$2000m^2/g$) and specific capacitances (>120 F/g) that exceeded those of commercial activated carbon. The significant electrochemical performance of the herbaceous biomass-derived activated carbons indicated the feasibility of utilizing waste biomass to fabricate energy storage materials. Furthermore, with respect to both economic and environmental perspectives, it is advantageous to obtain activated carbon from herbaceous biomass waste given the ease of handling biomass and the low production cost of activated carbon.

건엽중 및 엽면적에 의한 잎담배 수량예측 (Prediction of Yield from Leaf weight and Leaf area)

  • This study was conducted to determine the time and methods of predicting tobacco yield, by studying the relationship of yield components to yield. 1. The relationship between each position in leaf dry weight and approached gradually each other and also correlation coefficient of top leaf was higher than that of lower leaf. The leaf dry weight per plant was highly correlated with leaf area from 16th leaf position on stalk. Leaf dry weight of each leaf position on stalk was highly correlated with leaf dry weight per plant at 14 to 16th leaf position. 2. The correlation coefficient between leaf dry weight and leaf area per plant was higher at the late growth stage than at the early growth stage, and higher between the near stages. Correlation coefficient between leaf dry weights was higher than that of leaf areas. 3. Flue-cured tobacco yield be estimated from leaf dry weight per plant at 50 to 55 days after transplanting. 4. Air-cured tobacco yield could be predicted from leaf dry weight per plant at 60 days after transplanting.

냉동건조에 의한 잎담배 팽화특성 (Characterization of Expanded Tobacco Lamina Tissues by Freeze Drying)

  • The freeze drying rate was investigated under various conditions such as pressure and moisture contents in order to establish the optimum condition for expansion of the culled flue cured tobacco lamina. The optimal pressure in the chamber to maintain the heat and mass transfer was about 0.8torr, When the moisture contents of sample was 50-60%, expanding rate was the optimum condition and the rate was 67-76%. As the thickness of the sample layers was increased, drying-rate was decreased conversely and this result seemed to be due to decline of heat and mass transfer coefficients. Differences with the position of its stalk were also observed in drying rate, and low stalk position leaves of 5 and 3 was the fastest. Key words : freeze drying, Popping, expansion tobacco.
