Stainless steel has been stably used closed by passivity oxidation films($Cr_2O_3$) is made by neutral atmospheric environment. However, passivity oxidation films of the surface of stainless steel occasionally comes to be destroyed in seawater which is influenced by an environment having halogen ion like $Cl^-$, then, localization corrosion comes to occur. Stainless steel 304 for shaft system material of the small-size FRP fishing boat on seawater environments made an experiment on simulation of sacrifical anode(Al, Zn). Through these experiment and study, following results have been obtained ; According to the field inspection and corrosion simulation, the corrosion on the 2nd class stainless steel shaft(STS 304) in FRP fishing boat has been verified to occur by crevice corrosion and galvanic corrosion etc.. According to the comparison and analysis of Stainless steel 304 shaft materials after simulation leaving unprotected and applying cathodic protection, unprotected shaft specimen of stainless steel 304 was severely corroded, but, protected shaft specimen was not totally corroded. This result is assumed to be made by the facts that anodic reaction, $Fe{\rightarrow}Fe^{2+}$ + $2e^-$, has been restricted by the cathodic protection current of sacrificial anode material.
To investigate the effect of Mo and Cu contents on tensile strength of cold drawn stainless steel 304H wires, metallographical and mechanical tests were performed for the wire specimens drawn to different drawing strains at room temperature. It was confirmed that the contents of Mo ana Cu have little influence on the tensile strength of drawn specimens, even though the strain induced martensite transformation decreased with increasing the contents of Mo and Cu. These results were explained by the strengthening of the formed martensite itself due to the solid solution effect of interstitial solutes, carbon and nitrogen. The contents of these elements were slightly higher in the specimens containing additionally added Mo and Cu.

Electrochemical methods have been proposed as non-destructive, rapid and quantitative means for determining the degree of sensitization associated with Chromium depleted zones surrounding precipitates of Cr carbide and formation of secondary phase in stainless steel. In this study, the specimen of AISI 304 stainless steel and its welded sections, which welded by TIG, MIG, $CO_2$ and ARC, were tested corrosion resistance by electrochemical methods in 0.5N HCl and 1N $H_2SO_4$ with or without 0.01N KSCN. The results were confirmed that electrochemical methods could be used as a test method of corrosion resistance evaluation for the welded AISI 304 stainless steel.

Ferritic stainless steel is used for parts of exhaust system of commercial vehicle, because it has such advantages as low price and high corrosion resistant compared with austenite stainless steel. Even though ferritic stainless steel has these merits, to manufacture multi-layer bellows with complex geometry, austenite stainless steel is being used in the industry, because of it's high ductility. However, recently, the mechanical property of the ferritic stainless is getting improved and alternating austenitic stainless steel. In this paper, the possibility of mass production of bellows made of ferritic stainless steel like MH1 and 443CT is studied. Tensile test and ridging test are carried out to observe mechanical properties of STS304, MH1 and 443CT. Forming analysis using FEM is performed to investigate plastic strain during forming process. Prototype bellows has been made using STS304, MH1 and 443CT, respectively, and fatigue tests are carried out to evaluate fatigue life of bellows.

In our study, ceramics coatings by additives of nano alumina and magnesia have cured on 304 stainless steel at $170^{\circ}C$ 2h. We designed and experimented the coated specimens that were characterized by laser induced fluorescence spectroscopy using the charge coupled device and scanning electronic microscopy(SEM). The result was revealed the ceramic coatings added fillers has more excellent on adhesive property and scratch resistance, and less weight loss in acid solution than ceramic coatings non-added fillers. Therefore, this study has designed and manufactured the electromagnetic spectrometry with CCD and then analyzed the coatings on 304 stainless steel using the High Resolution Charge Coupled Device in improving the corrosion resistance of 304 stainless steel. Nowadays, coatings of stainless steel have increased by industrial demand in hygienes, aviation, instrumentations and robotics as the industry special application develops.
Gas nitriding and post oxidation were performed on stainless steels and SACM 645 steel. With increasing gas nitriding time, the increasing rate of nitrided layer was most rapid on SACM 645 steel and the nitriding depth of nitrided layer was most narrow on STS 304 steel among three steels. Corrosion resistance was increased with post oxidation on stainless steels and with increasing time the effect of corrosion resistance was decreased to compare with relatively short gas nitriding time. An improvement effect of corrosion resistance was consisted of predominantly on austenitic stainless steel by post oxidation after gas nitriding among three steels and it was relatively less influenced on martensitic stainless steel.
Even though 304 low-carbon (304L) stainless steel was developed to enhance the resistance to intergranular corrosion and stress corrosion cracking, it is occasionally subject to degradation in harsh environments. The degree of sensitization (DOS) of 304L stainless steel was studied as a function of sensitization using a double-loop electrochemical potentiokinetic reactivation (DL-EPR) method. Sensitizing heat treatment was performed in an Ar atmosphere at 500℃, 600℃, and 700℃, with heat treatment times varying from 0 to 96 h. DOS was measured by the ratio of the peak current density value of the forward scan to that of the reverse scan. After the EPR experiment, the specimen surface was observed by scanning electron microscopy and energy dispersive spectroscopy. The DOS of the specimens heat-treated at 600℃ increased with heat treatment times up to 48 h and then decreased due to a self healing effect. The DOS was higher in specimens heat-treated at 600℃ than those at 500℃ or 700℃. Corrosion of the sensitized specimens occurred mainly at the δ-γ phase boundary. The corrosion morphology at the δ-γ phase boundary changed with sensitizing heat-treatment conditions due to differences in chromium activity in γ austenite and δ ferrite.
Nitrided compound layer and diffusion layer structure were observed by SEM. The compound layer and the constituent of nitrided surface of STS 304, STS 316, STS 410 and SACM 645 steel were analysed using EMPA and XRD respectively. The depth of nitriding layer that is obtained from similar nitriding condition decrease in the order of SACM 645 > STS 410 > STS 316 > STS 304. Result of phase transformation of the nitrided at $550^{\circ}C$ by XRD analysis were as follows; The austenitic stainless steel was mainly consist of $Cr_2N$ accompanying with $Fe_4N$ and $Fe_{2-3}N$ phase and martensitic stainless steel was mainly consist of present $Fe_{2-3}N+Cr_2N$ phase, but SACM 645 steel was $Fe_{2-3}N$ phase present only.

This paper is a study on the prevention of crevice corrosion for a stainless steel heat exchanger in various pH solutions and with Cl ion concentrations. The electrochemical polarization test and crevice corrosion test of STS 304 for a heat exchanger were carried out. The crevice corrosion aspect, a passive behavior, crevice corrosion behavior, and corrosion protection characteristics of STS 304 using Al-alloy and Mg-alloy galvanic anode were considered. The main results are as follows: 1. The crevice corrosion of STS 304 occurs in the crevice and this corrosion increases pitting according to depth direction. On the other hand, the exterior crevice becomes passive. 2. With changing from a neutral to acid environment and increasing Cl ion concentration, the pitting potential of STS 304 lowers, and thus the crevice corrosion of STS 304 is sensitive. 3. The cathodic protection potential of STS 304 in the crevice is cathodically polarized by increasing Cl ion concentration. Therefore, an Al-alloy galvanic anode is more suitable than a Mg-alloy galvanic anode to protect the crevice corrosion of STS 304.
