  • A virtual parameter is introduced into the formulation of the previously published integration method to improve its stability properties. It seems that the numerical properties of this integration method are almost unaffected by this parameter except for the stability property. As a result, it can have second order accuracy, explicit formulation and controllable numerical dissipation in addition to the enhanced stability property. In fact, it can have unconditional stability for the system with the instantaneous degree of nonlinearity less than or equal to the specified value of the virtual parameter for the modes of interest for each time step.

  • In this paper we discuss the Hyers-Ulam-Rassias stability of a system of first order linear recurrences with variable coefficients in Banach spaces. The concept of the Hyers-Ulam-Rassias stability originated from Th. M. Rassias# stability theorem that appeared in his paper: On the stability of the linear mapping in Banach spaces, Proc. Amer. Math. Soc. 72 (1978), 297-300. As an application, the Hyers-Ulam-Rassias stability of a p-order linear recurrence with variable coefficients is proved.

  • The present paper is concerned with the notions of Lipschitz and asymptotic for perturbed functional differential system knowing the corresponding stability of functional differential system. We investigate Lipschitz and asymptotic stability for perturbed functional differential systems. The main tool used is integral inequalities of the Bihari-type, and all that sort of things.

  • The purpose of this paper is to analyze the static and dynamic stability-of the unmanned airship under development ; the target airship's over-all length of hull is 50m and the maximum diameter is 12.5m. For the analysis, the dynamic model of an airship was defined and both the nonlinear and linear dynamic equations of motion were derived. Two different configuration models (KA002Y and KA003Y) of the airship were used for the target model of the static stability analysis and the dynamic stability analysis. From the result of analyses, though the airship is unstable in static stability, dynamic characteristics of the airship can provide the stable dynamic stability. All of the results, airship models and dynamic flight equations will be an important basement and basic information for the next step of developing the automatic flight control system(AFCS) and the stability augmentation system(SAS) for the unmanned airship as well as for the stratospheric airship in the future.

  • Forklift truck is a very convenient transportation vehicle and widely used in industries. However, a lot of overturn accidents occur during operation because of poor understanding on the stability of forklift trucks. The stability of a forklift is defined by the minimum slope of the ramp where a forklift truck overturns. According to the KS BISO 22915-2 code, the stability is determined from the four kinds of stability tests. The equations for the stability of a forklift truck were proposed already in several published literatures and the equations can be used conveniently to estimate the stability and examine the effects of design parameters in forklift trucks. However, because the detail derivation procedure was omitted, it is very difficult to examine the accuracy of the proposed equations and to modify the equations for other types of forklift trucks. In this paper the stability equations were derived again with detail derivations for the four kinds of stability tests. And the effects of acceleration or centrifugal forces were also additionally included in the equations and minor corrections were also made.

  • The purposes of this paper are to investigate an effect of weight of material and gender on postural stability and to introduce formulas for those. There were five levels of weights 0, 9, 18, 27 and 36 kg, and two levels of genders were conducted. Eight male and five female subjects participated in this experiment, ten tests were performed for each level of weights to measure the postural stability by using the stability platform. The effect of the genders and the load on the postural stability were statistically analysed by the two way ANOVA test and the regression analysis. The ANOVA test showed that the effect of weights was statistically significant on postural stability to the both male and female subjects. And the postural stability of female subjects was better than that of male subjects. A linear regression formula for the balancing time and the load and a formula for the reduction rate postural stability and the relative load were introduced by the regression analysis.

  • The purpose of this study was to evaluate and compare the Limits of stability(LOS) in hemiplegic patients who can walking independently. The LOS was measured at stable surface, unstable surface with eye open and eye closed. In this study, 18 out-patients were evaluated who were treated at Yonsei University Medical Center Rehabilitation Hospital. In order to determine the statistical significance of results, T-test, paired t-test, and Kruskal-Wallis 1-way ANOVA were applied at 0.05 level of significance. The results were as follows: 1. The mean of lateral limits of stability was 9.89 degree. 2. The mean of anteroposterior limits of stability was 6.43 degree. 3. There was a significant difference of limits of stability between sound side and affected side(p<0.05). 4. The limits of stability was significantly decreased with eye closed(p<0.05) 5. The limits of stability was significantly decreased at unstable surface(p<0.05). 6. The limits of stability was a significant difference as spasticity degree of ankle plantar flexors(p<0.05). These results showed that the limits of stability in hemiplegic patients was more decreased than that of normal adult. In order to improve the balance in hemiplegic patients, we need to increase the limits of stability.

  • A review of the 2nd generation of intact stability by the International Maritime Organization is performed. The main issues with the new stability criteria are reviewed. In particular, the physical background and related mathematical formulations of the pure loss of stability and parametric roll are summarized. Based on a literature review, benchmark calculation results for 17 different types of ships are discussed, and the final results are in excellent agreement with our physical expectations. Some relatively serious design problems are found in the application of the new stability criteria to sample ships built in Korea, and possible technical solutions are proposed, which have to be improved in the coming years.

  • The objected of this study were to investigate how social class system influences family life, especially, marital relationship through area of marital satisfaction and marital stability and to find out influences of variables related to marital stability, that is, marital satisfaction, marital alternatives and barriers to marital breakup. The study was performed in a viewpoint of social exchange approach. Major findings were as follows; First, husbands and wive's marital satisfaction and marital stability differed significantly by their level of SES. The marital satisfaction scores and the marital stability score of higher class were higher than those of lower class. second, the higher the marital satisfaction scores and the barriers to marital breakup scores were, the higher the marital stability scores were. And the higher the marital alternatives scores were, the loser the marital stability scores were. Third, the independent influences of variables related to marital stability were differed by level of SES. The last, the typology of marital satisfaction and marital stability differed by level of SES. In lower class, the marriage type of low satisfaction and low stability is more than other types. But in middle and upper class, the most marriage type is high satisfaction and high stability marriage.
