  • The mechanical properties such as shear strength and the hardness of milli-size products that manufactured for various process parameters by forward extrusion using square dies are investigated. Shear strength test is implemented for the observation of relation between vickers hardness and shear strength in the interface of head and shaft part of a stepped pin. When the extrusion ratios of pure aluminum and pure copper billets increase, the hardness on both the surface and the center line of a pin also increase, especially the hardness on the surface is shown to be a little higher than on the center. The existence of knock-out pad in extrusion die caused hardness increase in the interface of a extruded pin. As compared shear strength with hardness of a pin, the approximated linear relations are suggested in this study.

  • The Alcyon Co-60 gamma rays was studied for electron contamination. The surface dose, attributable almost entirely to contamination electrons, has a linear dependence on field width for square fields and an inverse square dependence on distance from the bottom of the fixed head assembly Build-up and surface dose measurements were taken with and without an acrylic blocking tray in place. Further measurements were made with a copper filter designed to reduce secondary electrons emitted by photon interactions with the acrylic tray. The results are discussed in relation to skin sparing effect for radiation therapy Patients. And to achieve the maximum skin sparing effect, the selection of the optimum SSD and TSD is needed.

  • Turbine blade is subject to torsional load by torsion-mount, centrifugal load by rotation of rotor and repeated bending load by steam pressure. Turbine with partially cracked blade has normal working condition at initial repair time but vibratory working condition at middle repair time due to crack growth. Finite element analysis on turbine blade indicates that repeated bending load out of all loads is the most important factor on fatigue strength of turbine blade. Therefore, this study shows root mean square roughness has linear relation with stress intensity factor range in 12% Cr steel and can predict loading condition of fractured turbine blade.

  • Turbine blade is subject to force of three types ; the torsional force by torsional mount, the centrifugal force by the rotation of rotor and the cyclic bending force by steam pressure. The cyclic bending force was a main factor on fatigue strength. SEM fractography in root of turbine blade showed micro-clack width was not dependent on stress intensity factor range. Especially, fatigue did not exist on SEM photograph in root of turbine blade. To clear out the fracture mechanism of turbine blade, nanofractography was needed on 3-dimensional crack initiation and crack growth with high magnification. Fatigue striation partially existed on AFM photograph in root of turbine blade. Therefore, to find a fracture mechanism of the torsion-mounted blade in nuclear power plant, the relation between stress intensity factor range and surface roughness measured by AFM was estimated, and then the load amplitude ΔP applied to turbine blade was predicted exactly by root mean square roughness.

  • We present a new global/local analysis with the aid of MLS(Moving Least Square)-based finite elements which can handle an arbitrary number of nodes on every element side. It give a great flexibility in constructing finite element meshes at the specified local regions without remeshing. Compared to other type global/local analysis, it does not require any superimposed mesh or need not solve the equilibrium equation twice as well as shows an excellent accuracy. To demonstrate the performance of proposed scheme, we will show several examples in relation to capturing highly local stress field.

  • This paper is concerned with the mechanical property changes of the milli-size products manufactured by forward extrusion processes with square dies. Experiments are carried out with pure aluminum and pure copper billets. Extrusion ratio and knock-out pad are chosen as the important process parameters affecting the changes of mechanical properties such as shear strength and hardness. Shear strength tests with the extruded milli-size pin have shown the strong relation between victors hardness and shear strength in the neck of a stepped pin. As the extrusion ratio increases, the hardness on both the surface and the center line of a pin also increase. It is also noted that the hardness on the surface is a little higher than that on the center. The existence of knock-out pad in extrusion die causes the hardness in the neck of a extruded pin to increase. Finally, the approximated linear relations between shear strength and hardness of a pin are suggested.

  • The present study investigated various sales training programs used by apparel companies and compared each other in order to provide an important information for developing effective training programs for professional salesperson. Sixty eight companies were used and grouped into four categories based on brand characteristics : domestic national brand(DNB), casual brand(CB), foreign brand(FB) and domestic designer brand(DDB). Data were collected from the managers in charge or training salesperson by both questionnaires and personal and telephone interviews. Data were collected during July in 1998, and analyzed by using ANOVA, Duncan\`s multiple range test, and Chi-square test. Since the sample size was small, Yates\` correction formula was used to maximize statistical validity in non-parametric procedure of Chi-square test. The main purpose of sales training indicated by the companies were to satisfy customers and to maximize the profit. Significant differences were found among the groups in the importance level of training contents such as knowledge, and customer relation, training methods, place, and duration/frequency of training at training center.

  • Control Moment Gyro (CMG) has been used as an indirect actuator of a single-wheel robot system GYROBO, developed at Chungnam National University. The flip motion of the gimbal system produces the gyroscopic motion onto the body system while the body motion also produces the gyroscopic motion onto the gimbal system inversely. In this paper, the intuitive equation of the inverse gyroscopic effect is derived as the direct relation between the rate of the body system and the rate of the gimbal system. Experiments on the inverse gyroscopic effect under the chaotically generated disturbance are conducted. Experimental data are approximated by a linear equation using the least square method.

  • This paper presents nonlinear analysis of a functionally graded square plate integrated with two functionally graded piezoelectric layers resting on the Winkler-Pasternak foundation. Geometric nonlinearity was considered in the strain-displacement relation based on the Von-Karman assumption. All the mechanical and electrical properties except Poisson's ratio can vary continuously along the thickness of the plate based on a power function. Electric potential was assumed as a quadratic function along the thickness direction and trigonometric function along the planar coordinate. The effect of non homogeneous index was investigated on the responses of the system. Furthermore, a comprehensive investigation has been performed for studying the effect of two parameters of assumed foundation on the mechanical and electrical components. A comparison between linear and nonlinear responses of the system presents necessity of this study.
