  • The Krylov-Schur algorithm has been applied to reveal the eigen-properties of the wave guide having the square cross section. The eigen-matrix equation has been constructed from FEM with the basis function of the tangential edge-vectors of the triangular element. This equation has been treated firstly with Arnoldi decomposition to obtain a upper Hessenberg matrix. The QR algorithm has been carried out to transform it into Schur form. The several eigen values satisfying the convergent condition have appeared in the diagonal components. The eigen-modes for them have been calculated from the inverse iteration method. The wanted eigen-pairs have been reordered in the leading principle sub-matrix of the Schur matrix. This sub-matrix has been deflated from the eigen-matrix equation for the subsequent search of other eigen-pairs. These processes have been conducted several times repeatedly. As a result, a few primary eigen-pairs of TE and TM modes have been obtained with sufficient reliability.

  • A stud has been carried out for figuring out real photon spectrum from an observed gamma-ray spectrum by means of response matrix method, which is known one of the relatively convenient method for the estimation of exposure rate of a complex gamma ray field in comparison with graphical analysis and least square fitting of the measured spectrum. A 3'${\times}$3' cylindrical Nal(T1) scintillation detector in association with multichannel pulse height analyzer and six reference gamma ray sources covering the photon energy range of 0.05 to 2.0 MeV were used. In dividing the energy region for the construction of response matrix, two different approaches were attempted. One is dividing the entire energy region of interest into 20 bins, one of which corresponds to a width of 0.1 MeV to form $20{\times}20$ matrix, and another is dividing the 2 MeV region into 14 bins to form $14{\times}14$ matrix consists of $0.1(MeV)^{1/2}$ intervals assuming the resolution of the detector is dependent on square root of the incident photon energy. Inversion of thus constructed matrices was performed by a computor(P-E8/32) using the program attached to the end of this paper. The resultant exposure rates obtained by this method were in good agreement, within 10% with those calculated by ordinary formula widely used for a gamma-ray field of known energy and flux. It is concluded that the photen flux obtained by the response matrix constructed under the assumption of $E^{1/2}$ dependence is more realistic than that obtained by the matrix consist of identical energy bins in dosimetrical point of view.

  • Closed form solutions for equilibrium and flexibility matrices of the Mindlin-Reissner theory based eight-node rectangular plate bending element (MRP8) using Integrated Force Method (IFM) are presented in this paper. Though these closed form solutions of equilibrium and flexibility matrices are applicable to plate bending problems with square/rectangular boundaries, they reduce the computational time significantly and give more exact solutions. Presented closed form solutions are validated by solving large number of standard square/rectangular plate bending benchmark problems for deflections and moments and the results are compared with those of similar displacement-based eight-node quadrilateral plate bending elements available in the literature. The results are also compared with the exact solutions.

  • In this paper the power spectrum of background EEG is estimated by the LMS PHD based on least mean square. At the power spectrum estimatiom, the stocastic process of background EEG is assumed to consist of the nonharmonic sinusoid and the white noise. In the LMS PHD the model parameters are obtained by the least mean square at optimal order which is obtained from the fact that the eigenvalue's fluctuation of autocorrelation matrix of the normal back-ground EEG is smaller at some order than at other order when the power spectrum of background EEG is esitmated by PHD. The optimal order of this model is the 6-th order when the eigenvalue's fluctuation of autocorrelation matrix of background EEG is considered. The estimation results are with compared the results from the Maximum Entropy Spectral Estimation and Pisarenko Harmonic Decomposition. From the comparison results. The LMS PHD is possible to estimate the power spectrum of background EEG.

  • This study presents a method of determining the optimum cable tension forces for the proper initial equilibrium state of a cable-stayed bridge using the least square method. The proposed method minimizes the errors, i.e., the differences, such as the deflection and the moments of the girder and the tower, between the target values from a continuous beam by considering the cable anchor point as supports of the girder and the responses obtained from the analysis of the entire cable-stayed bridge system. Especially, the proposed method can selectively control the adjustment of the tower moment, the girder moment, and the deflections by introducing the weighing matrix. Through numerical analysis and comparisons with existing studies, the usefulness and validity of the proposed method was verified.

  • In this study, a novel rotor position sensorless estimation method of an interior permanent-magnet synchronous motor is proposed. A square-wave pulsating voltage signal is injected in the estimated synchronous reference frame. This signal is interpreted in the stationary reference frame regardless of the estimated rotor position. Thus, assuming that the position error is nearly zero is unnecessary because the variables in the estimated synchronous reference frame are not used. The rotor position can be exactly calculated from two voltage references and three sampled current feedbacks in the stationary reference frame. The proposed method is easy to implement and helps enhance the bandwidth of the current controller. The validity of the proposed method is verified by simulations and experiments.

  • This paper describes a method for identifying the dynamic characteristics of air foil bearings for high speed turbomachinerys with the LS/IV method. In fact identifying the characteristics of air foil bearings is very difficult work, and it is tried to identify it. Experiments were conducted to determine the structural dynamic and hydrodynamic characteristics of air foil bearings. Numerical predictions compare the static and dynamic force performances. The housing of the bearing on the journal was driven by the impact hammer which were used to simulate impact force acting on air foil bearings. The characteristics of air foil bearings were extracted from the frequency response function (FRF) by LS(Least Square) method and IV(Instrumental Variable) method. The experiment was tested at 0 rpm and $10000\sim16000rpm$. And the test results were introduced about the dynamic characteristics of air foil bearings, and also compared with theoritical results.

  • In this paper, the realization of a hearing aid adaptively cancelling feedback noise was considered. Conventional least mean square method in time domain was transformed into frequency domain in order to minimize computational burden. The adaptive filter algorithm was evaluated by Matlab (Matrix laboratory), and it was confirmed by CSR 8675 Bluetooth DSP IC (Digital Signal Processor Integrated Circuit) chip firmware realization. Some remote control features by a smart phone was added to the smart hearing aid for user interface easiness.

  • In the parallel-architecture turbo codes, the constituent interleaver must avoid memory collision. This paper proposes a collision-free interleaver structure composed of a Latin square matrix and pre-designed interleavers. Our proposed interleavers can be easily optimized for various information block sizes and for various degrees of parallelism. Their performances were evaluated by computer simulation.

  • We extend the sue of the method of least square to develop a recursive algorithm for the design of adaptive transversal filters such that, given the least-square estimate of this vector of the filter at iteration n-1, we may compute the updated estimate of this vector at iteration a upon the arrival of new data. We begin the development of the RLS algorithm by reviewing some basic relations that pertain to the method of least squares. Then, by exploiting a relation in matrix algebra known as the matrix inversion lemma, we develop the RLS algorithm. An important feature of the RLS algorithm is that it utilizes information contained in the input data, extending back to the instant of time when the algorithm is initiated. In this paper, we propose new tap weight updated RLS algorithm in adaptive transversal filter with data-recycling buffer structure. We prove that convergence speed of learning curve of RLS algorithm with data-recycling buffer is faster than it of exiting RL algorithm to mean square error versus iteration number. Also the resulting rate of convergence is typically an order of magnitude faster than the simple LMS algorithm. We show that the number of desired sample is portion to increase to converge the specified value from the three dimension simulation result of mean square error according to the degree of channel amplitude distortion and data-recycle buffer number. This improvement of convergence character in performance, is achieved at the (B+1)times of convergence speed of mean square error increase in data recycle buffer number with new proposed RLS algorithm.
