The suspension elements like primary coil spring, yaw damper, body to body damper are core parts of high speed railway bogie and the faults relating to these elements are reported recently. Thus, this study is started to analyze the displacements characteristics of suspension elements of high speed railway rolling-stock for the purpose of preventing the faults and developing the maintenance technology for suspension elements like spring and dampers. For this purpose, we made a plan to measure the displacements of the primary coil spring, yaw damper and body to body damper in actual running condition. We developed the measurement device to measure the longitudinal displacement and angular displacement of suspension elements and installed this device to test suspension elements. Test to measure displacements of suspension elements is conducted in service line of high speed railway. The displacement data which is acquired from the test with actual vehicles was analyzed for its maximum displacement depending on the track sections. As a result of analysis, we obtained the displacement trends occurring with the sections and valuable results like maximum values and the displacement distribution.

In this study. however, the subjects of the study are the 451 springs, the whole basin of Cheju Island derided Into four groups. In this study, analyzed the spring phenomena on the basis of both the geologic elements and the topogaphic elements. Also, the spring zone In Cheju Island are classified Into three types that the mountain area, the muddle area, the coastal area in spring distribution by attitude. The quentity of spring and variability show subvariety on the average according to Meinzer's classilfication and the whole basin of spring shows various distributions from Third to Sixth. The results of this study can be utilized to evaluate the condition of groundwater development In Cheju Island.
For the effective finite element analysis of the structures including material interfaces or contact surfaces, interface elements are proposed. Most of early works in this problem require not only iterative computation but also complex formulation because of the kinematic nonlinearities caused from the discontinuous behavior and the stress concentration phenomena. The proposed elements, however, are consistently formulated using relative displacements and tractions between top and bottom regular finite elements. The effectiveness of these elements are shown by solving various numerical sample problems including an leaf spring and comparing with results of general finite element analysis. As a result, more stable solutions are conveniently obtaines using interface elements than regular finite elements.
This paper presents the optimization design technique on the joint stiffness and section characteristic factors of chassis frame, by using beam and spring elements in a given design package. Two correction methods are used for the optimization design of chassis frame. First is the equivalent inertia of moment method in relation to the section characteristic factors of joint zones, which are thickness , width and height of frame channel section. Second is the rotational spring element with joint stiffness of joint zones. The CAE example shows that the relationship of section characteristic factors and joint stiffness can effectively be used in designing chassis frame. In this point, if static and dynamic targets are given, the joint-zone and section characteristic factors of chassis frame intended may be designed and defined by using beam and rotational spring elements.
To characterize the elemental composition of fine particles in urban area, $PM_{2.5}$ was collected by a 3-stage DRUM impactor at Gwangju during spring and summer. Time and size resolved concentrations for 19 trace elements were obtained by synchrotron X-Ray fluorescence analysis. Trace elements in summer were distributed in smaller size range compared to those in spring. Almost trace element concentrations in fine particles were highly increased during the Asian dust. In spring, soil elements such as Si, K, Ca, Ti and Fe had low enrichment factors indicating the dominant influence of soil dust. However, all elements had high enrichment factors in summer implying that these elements could be emitted from the anthropogenic sources. Factor analysis was conducted with the elemental composition data in order to identify anthropogenic sources of aerosols in urban area during spring and summer. Fine particles in spring have several sources such as soil dust originating from China continental region, coal and oil combustion, biomass burning, sea salt, ferrous and nonferrous metal sources. On the other hand, fine particles in summer were influenced by road dust, gasoline vehicle as well as coal and oil combustion, sea salt, ferrous and nonferrous metal sources.
In this study, a numerical analysis method for soil-pile interaction in frequency domain problem is presented. The total soil-pile interaction system is divided into two parts so called near field and far field. In the near field, beam elements are used for a pile and plain strain finite elements for soil. In the far field, dynamic fundamental solution for multi-layered half planes based on boundary element formulation is adopted for soil. These two fields are coupled using FE-BE coupling technique In order to verify the proposed soil-pile interaction analysis, the dynamic responses of pile on multi-layered half planes are simulated and the results are compared with the experimental results. Also, the dynamic response analyses of interface spring elements are performed. As a result, less spring stiffness makes the natural frequency decrease and the resonant amplitude increase.
The suspension system of railway rolling-stock is composed of the primary and secondary suspension elements. Recently, a conical rubber spring is widely used as the primary suspension element due to the merits of the three directional stiffness characteristics. So, understanding the properties and characteristics of the conical rubber spring is very important from the viewpoint of vehicle stability and efficient maintenance. Thus, this study is started to acquire the basic data for maintaining spring elements efficiently. For this, we tested the conical rubber spring samples including a new and old specimen with aging. As a test result, we have obtained the property characteristics of the aged spring comparing with the new product and we describe the results.
Adherence between reinforcement and the surrounding concrete is usually ignored in finite element analysis (FEA) of reinforced concrete (RC) members. However, load transition between the reinforcement and surrounding concrete effects RC members' behavior a great deal. In this study, the effects of bond-slip on the FEA of RC members are examined. In the analyses, three types of bond-slip modeling methods (perfect bond, contact elements and spring elements) and three types of reinforcement modeling methods (smeared, one dimensional line and three dimensional solid elements) were used. Bond-slip behavior between the reinforcement and surrounding concrete was simulated with cohesive zone materials (CZM) for the first time. The bond-slip relationship was identified experimentally using a beam bending test as suggested by RILEM. The results obtained from FEA were compared with the results of four RC beams that were tested experimentally. Results showed that, in FE analyses, because of the perfect bond occurrence between the reinforcement and surrounding concrete, unrealistic strains occurred in the longitudinal reinforcement. This situation greatly affected the load deflection relationship because the longitudinal reinforcements dominated the failure mode. In addition to the spring elements, the combination of a bonded contact option with CZM also gave closer results to the experimental models. However, modeling of the bond-slip relationship with a contact element was quite difficult and time consuming. Therefore bond-slip modeling is more suitable with spring elements.
A nonlinear finite element modeling approach is developed to assess the behavior of a dowel bar embedded on a single concrete block substrate, subjected to monotonic loading. In this approach, a discrete representation of the steel reinforcing bar is considered, using beam finite elements with nonlinear material behavior. The bar is connected to the concrete embedment through nonlinear Winkler spring elements. This modeling approach can only be used if a new constitutive model is developed for the spring elements, to simulate the deformability and strength of the concrete substrate. To define this constitutive model, an extensive literature review was conducted, as well as 3 experimental tests, in order to select the experimental data which can be used in the calibration of the model. Based on this data, an empirical model was established to predict the global dowel response, for a wide range of bar diameters and concrete strengths. This empirical model provided the information needed for calibration of the nonlinear Winkler spring model, valid for dowel displacements up to 4 mm. This new constitutive model is composed by 5 stages, in order to reproduce the concrete substrate response.
As bridge conditions in the United States continue to deteriorate, rapid bridge replacement procedures are needed. Decked precast prestressed concrete (DPPC) girders are used for rapid bridge construction because the bridge deck is precast with the girders eliminating the need for a cast-in-place slab. One of the concerns with using DPPC girders as a bridge construction option is the durability of the longitudinal joints between girders. The objectives of this paper were to propose a method to use a spring element modeling procedure for representing welded steel connector assemblies between adjacent girders in DPPC girder bridges, perform a preliminary study of bridge performance under multiple loading scenarios and bridge configurations, and discuss model flexibility for accommodating future field data for model verification. The spring elements have potential to represent the contribution of joint grout materials by altering the spring stiffness.
