  • It is important to use the comb type pilot allocation for the continuous channel and efficient processing. And DFT-spreading OFDM is used a lot to solve high PAPR problem of OFDM system. However, PAPR is increased again when comb type pilot is used to estimate channel characteristics. So, in this paper, we employ a new SLM method to DFT-spreading OFDM system to reduce increased high PAPR. And we suggest an effective method to transmit side information without additional bandwidth. Pilot and side information must be preserved from jamming or intentional interferences since those are very important in DFT spread OFDM system using SLM. So, in this paper, we like to analyze and simulate the performance of DFT spread OFDM system based on SLM against jamming signal. To remedy the vulnerable shortcomings of DFT spread OFDM about jamming or intentional interferences, we employ FH(Frequency Hopping) method and analyze system performance under the several jamming conditions such as MTJ(Multi Tone Jamming) and PBJ(Partial Band Jamming).

  • High PAPR (Peak-to-Average Power Ratio) characteristic causes some problems like system performance degradation and OOB (Out-of-Band) power increasement under the HPA (High Power Amplifier) nonlinearity condition. UFMC (Universal Filtered Multi-Carrier) and FBMC (Filter Bank Multi-Carrier) are regarded as 5G(Generation) candidate waveforms. In this paper, we evaluate and analyze performance of these systems with DFT-s (Discrete Fourier Transform Spreading) technique under the nonlinear HPA environment. In this paper, we describe OFDM (Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing), UFMC, FBMC, DFT-s-OFDM, DFT-s-UFMC, and DFT-s-FBMC system, and evaluate BER (Bit Error Rate) performance of these systems. As simulation results, BER performance degradation by HPA nonlinearity of DFT-s-OFDM and DFT-s-UFMC is greatly overcome by DFT spreading technique. However, BER performance degradation by HPA nonlinearity of DFT-s-FBMC system is little overcome.

  • Icon conveys symbolic information which they have become ubiquitous as main element of GUI. However, users often cannot intuitively understand its functional meanings. Icon has to be designed for users to easily understand functional meanings. In order to evaluate icon, the spreading activation model can be used to effectively understand the process of information retrieval. In asymmetric spreading activation model is that in the two nodes the degree of spreading activation is different according to direction. Thus, asymmetric spreading activation theory was performed evaluating the strength of association when users see visual image to associate their verbal meaning (visual image - verbal meaning pair) and users see verbal meaning to associate their visual image (verbal meaning - visual image pair). According to the direction, this study hypothesizes that the well-designed icons have symmetric relationship rather than asymmetric relationship between the two pairs. The strength of association is measured through the reaction time and the accuracy rate. In performing SAT (spreading activation test), the ten icons were selected as word processing software icons. After first SAT, newly designed icons were developed based on Korean mental model, and second SAT was conducted using them. The results showed that the accuracy rate of newly designed icon has been improved. Also there is significant difference of reaction time between current icons and newly designed icons. Well-designed icon is confirmed that the strength of association relationship arises symmetrically rather than asymmetrically between the two pairs. User centered icons could be designed by improving the strength of association between the two pairs. Asymmetric SAT evaluates the strength of the association between the visual image and the verbal meanings to contribute to the development of icon which it related to human's association structure.

  • In this study, solutions for a liquid pool spreading model with continuous and instantaneous release are discussed based on the model used in the FERC's report. The effects of the release time on the liquid pool volume and radius are investigated for the continuous release. For the continuous release with the frictional resistance force in the liquid pool spreading model, the vaporization time decreases as the release time increases. On the other hand, for the continuous release without the frictional resistance force in the liquid pool spreading model, the vaporization time increases as the release time increases. These phenomena are deeply related to the pool radius. In addition, the effects of the initial pool radius for the instantaneous release in the liquid pool spreading model are discussed. For the case with the frictional resistance force in the liquid pool spreading model, as reducing release time in the model with the frictional resistance force for the continuous release, the solution for a continuous release approaches to that for an instantaneous release. On the contrary to this, the pool volume and radius for the instantaneous release without the frictional resistance force are totally different from those for the continuous release without the frictional resistance force.

  • The flame retardancy, such as carbonized length and area, of four plank type wood products by the spreading concentration and impregnation time of flame retardant were measured according to standard of the Nation Fire Agency in Republic of Korea. To measure the flame retardancy, Korean pine plywood, Japanese larch plywood, Japanese cypress planks, and perforated birch plywood boards were treated with self-development flame retardant by 300 and 500 g/㎡ spreading concentration and those were compared with control specimen. In general, the flame retardant performance of wood products improved as the spreading concentration of flame retardant increased. Except for Japanese larch plywood, there was no significant difference in the flame retardant performance by the spreading concentration. The flame retardant performance of perforated birch plywood board was positively correlated up to 60 minutes of impregnation time, but then gradually decreased. These results about the flame retardancy of wood products by spreading concentration and impregnation time were expected to be basic data for improving flame-retardant treated wood.

  • In this study, evaporation of LN2 non-spreading pool on concrete plate was dealt with experimentally. The thermophysical properties of concrete, which is a composite material, were obtained by minimizing the difference between the numerical analysis results obtained from the assumed properties and the results from experiments. The thermal energy required for evaporation of the liquid pool is supplied from the concrete plate and the wall of the container. As a result of the measurement, the thermal energy flowing in from the wall was negligible compared to the one supplied from the concrete plate. It was found that the measured evaporation rate of the liquid pool by the heat energy supplied through the concrete plate agrees well with the PTC model except for the initial section of the experiment. The validity of the semi-infinite assumption and the one-dimensional assumption, which are the main conditions of the PTC model, was also verified through experiments. The evaporation rate model in the non-spreading pool discussed in this study can provide a basic frame for the one in the spreading pool, which is a meaningful result considering that the spreading pool is very realistic compared to the non-spreading pool.

  • Crk-associated substrate (CAS) is a focal adhesion protein that is involved in integrin signaling and cell migration. CAS deficiency reduces the migration and spreading of cells, both of which are processes mediated by Rac activation. We examined the functions of v-Crk, the oncogene product of the CT10 virus p47gag-crk, which affects cell migration and spreading, membrane ruffling, and Rac activation in CAS-deficient mouse embryonic fibroblasts (CAS-/- MEFs). CAS-/- MEFs showed less spreading than did CAS+/+ MEFs, but spreading was recovered in mutant cells that expressed v-Crk (CAS-/-v-Crk MEF). We observed that the reduction in spreading was linked to the formation of membrane ruffles, which were accompanied by Rac activation. In CAS-/- MEFs, Rac activity was significantly reduced, and Rac was not localized to the membrane. In contrast, Rac was active and localized to the membrane in CAS-/-v-Crk MEFs. Lamellipodia protrusion and ruffle retraction velocities were both reduced in CAS-/- MEFs, but not in CAS-/-v-Crk MEFs. We also found that microinjection of anti-gag antibodies inhibited the migration of CAS-/-v-Crk MEFs. These findings indicate that v-Crk controls cell migration and membrane dynamics by activating Rac in CAS-deficient MEFs.

  • In continental margins, turbid underflows which are not confined to a given channel, are free to spread laterally as well as longitudinally. Lateral spreading can reduce substantially the run out distance of flows along continental shelves and slopes. Laboratory experiments with a large tank, employing saline density currents as surrogates for fine-grained turbidity flow, coupled with dimensional analysis, have been used to develop a simple expression for lateral spreading rates of two-dimensional flows on sloping beds. characteristic length and time are determined by the flow discharge and buoyancy flux at the inlet. By knowing the initial width of the flow, the spreading law can be used to estimate the maximum width of the current at different times as well as the longitudinal spreading rate. Predictions for flows compare favorably against observations.

  • We propose a performance analysis of code division multiple access systems based on the combination of M-ary and pseudo-noise spreading. In spite of the total bandwidth expansion being equal, there is a difference in the system performance by the combination of M-ary and pseudo-noise spreading. The proposed analysis uses each bandwidth expansion, caused by M-ary and pseudo-noise spreading, rather than the total bandwidth expansion. If the signal to interference plus noise ratio becomes high, it is more effective to reduce biterror rate by bandwidth expansion of M-ary modulation rather than that of pseudo-noise spreading. Since the proposed analysis reflects the effect of the M-ary modulation, the bit error rate from the proposed analysis is closer to the results of the simulation than from the conventional analysis.

  • Leidenfrost drops with ellipsoidal shaping can control the bouncing height by adjusting the aspect ratio(AR) of the shape at the moment of impact. In this work, we focus on the effect of the AR and the impact Weber number(We) on the non-axisymmetrical spreading dynamics of the drop, which plays an important role in the control of bouncing. To understand the impact dynamics, the numerical simulation is conducted for the ellipsoidal drop impact upon the perfect non-wetting solid surface by using volume of fluid method, which shows the characteristics of the spreading behavior in each principal axis. As the AR increases, the drop has a high degree of the alignment into one principal axis, which leads to the consequent suppression of bouncing height with shape oscillation. As the We increases, the maximum spreading diameters in the principal axes both increase whereas the contact time on the solid surface rarely depends on the impact velocity at the same AR. The comprehensive understanding of the ellipsoidal drop impact upon non-wetting surface will provide the way to control of drop deposition in applications, such as surface cleaning and spray cooling.
