Of the various methods of splicing reinforcing bar in reinforced concrete structure, mortar-filled sleeve reinforcement splice offers diverse benefits, not only in terms of structural performance but also for the construction process. Consequently, after the mortar-filled sleeve splices have been developed in recent years, research and development on these splices has been actively carried out, in order to evaluate its macro structural performance, such as its strength and stiffness, with the aim of enabling this system to be applied to construction in the field as early as possible. However, to make a proper evaluation on the overall structural performance of the mortar-filled sleeve reinforcing bar splice, it is of critical importance to understand the lateral confining action of the sleeve, which is known to affect the bond strength between the embedded bar and mortar in the sleeve. Accordingly, in this study, an experiment of monotonic loading and cyclic loading was conducted with a full-sized mortar-filled sleeve splice attaching strain gauges on the sleeve surface with experimental variables such as development length of bar, etc. Based on the test results, the effect of the lateral confining action of the sleeve was analyzed and considered in terms of the bond strength between the bar and mortar in this splice.

The application of epoxy coated reinforcements is increased as a means to prevent a corrosion of reinforcements embedded in reinforced concrete structures, However, epoxy coating may reduce the bond capacity between concrete and reinforcement, which results a longer development length and lap splice length. This paper aims to the possibility of modification in lap splice length from reduction of basic development length which was confirmed using a direct pull out test. Total 36 beam specimens were tested to compare the lap splice properties of normal and epoxy coated reinforcements with beam-end test for various lap lengths and diameters of reinforcements. According to the results on failure modes, deformations, and crack widths of this experiments, the modification factor of 1.2 should be used, though the direct bond capacity is assured through direct pull out test.
The primary aim of this study was to investigate the bond strength between reinforcement and concrete. Large sized nine beams, which were produced from concrete with approximately ${f_c}^{\prime}=30$ MPa, were tested. Each beam was designed to include two bars in tension, spliced at the center of the span. The splice length was selected so that bars would fail in bond, splitting the concrete cover in the splice region, before reaching the yield point. In all experiments, the variable used was the reinforcing bar diameter. In the experiments, beam specimens were loaded in positive bending with the splice in a constant moment region. In consequence, as the bar diameter increased, bond strength and ductility reduced but, however, the stiffnesses of the beams (resistance to deflection) increased. Morever, a empirical equation was obtained to calculate the bond strength of reinforcement and this equation was compared with Orangun et al. (1977) and Esfahani and Rangan (1998). There was a good agreement between the values computed from the predictive equation and those computed from equations of Orangun et al. (1977) and Esfahani and Rangan (1998).
The aim of the current work is to describe the flexural behaviour of simply supported concrete beams with tension reinforcement spliced at mid-span. The parameters included in the study were the type of the concrete, the splice length and the configuration of the hooked splice. Fifteen beams were cast using an ordinary concrete mix and two fiber reinforced concrete mixes incorporating steel and polypropylene fibers. Each concrete mix was used to cast five beams with continuous, spliced and hooked spliced tension steel bars. A test beam was reinforced on the tension side with two 12 mm bars and the splice length was 20 and 40 times the bar diameter. The hooked bars were spliced along 20 times the bar diameter and provided with 45-degree and 90-degree hooks. The test results in terms of cracking and ultimate loads, cracking patterns, ductility, and failure modes are reported. The results demonstrated the consequences due to short splices and the improvement in the structural behaviour due to the use of hooks and the confinement provided by the steel and polypropylene fibers.
Although the compression splice needs not be longer than the tension slice due to existence of end bearing, current design codes impose a longer compression lap splice than a tension lap splice in high strength concrete. Hence, new criteria for the compression lap splice including the effects of concrete strength need to be sought for economical design involving ultra-high strength concrete. An experimental study has been conducted with column specimens in concrete strength of 80 and 100 MPa. Test results show that the splice strength can be evaluated to be proportional to square root of compressive strength of concrete. Bar stress developed by end bearing is not affected by splice length and is expressed with a function of the square root of concrete strength. Mean value of stresses developed by end bearing is 16.5 square root of $f_{ck}$. The stresses developed by bond in compression splices are nearly identical to those in tension splices and, therefore, strength increment of compression splices is attributed to end bearing only. From regression analysis of 58 tests, a design equation is proposed for compression lap splice in 40 to 100 MPa of compressive strength of concrete. By the proposed equation, the anomaly of lap lengths in tension and compression is got rid of. In addition, the equation has a reliability equivalent to those of the specified strengths of materials.

The use of higher strength materials frequently requires the change of design provisions. Following to the previous researches, high strength reinforcing bars have a weak point about the development and splice length. Based on the previous research about high relative rib area, bond strength between reinforcing bars and concrete can be improved by the control of rib height and spacing. But, the code provisions do not include these specific shape of reinforcing bars. So, the purpose of this paper is to determine the effect of relative rib area to the bond strength. This paper describes the experiment and analysis of 5 beam-spliced specimens containing D25 with relative rib areas ranging from 0.073 to 0.17. The test results are also analyzed to make a design formula about the calculation of splice length on the consideration of relative rib area.
The present paper reports the detailed study on the splicing behavior of viscose staple fiber yarns made from ring, rotor, friction and air-jet spinning technologies. The linear density of all the yearns was kept constant at 29.5 tex. The splicing parameters like splicing pressure and duration of the splicing were taken as variables. Three levels of splicing pressure at constant splicing duration and three levels of splicing durations at constant splicing pressure were considered. Splices were introduced at all these levels for the four different technologies. These splices were tested for their tensile properties and the properties of splices were evaluated in terms of retained splice strength (RSS) and splice break ratio (SBR). The splice photographs were taken and splices were analyzed for their structure and for diameter profile along the length of the splice.

The PC (Precast Concrete) construction method is a technique where concrete members that have been produced in a plant are constructed on site. Thus, continuity and secure integration of a structure that can be obtained by connecting rebars at splicing joint for PC members are the main areas of concern for this method. To evaluate the splicing and bonding performance according to application of a splice sleeve for connecting rebar in this research study, the diameter of rebar, development length, grouting strength etc. were set as variables. The performance and stiffness of splicing according to the development length of grout strength were measured and evaluated. In addition, by conducting comparative analysis on each of the variables, the factors that affected the splice sleeve for connecting rebar were discussed. The results confirmed that the strength and stiffness of the splice sleeve for connecting rebar were significantly affected by the development length while the increase in performance according to grout strength was not as significant.

This paper conducts an evaluation of the structural performance of the lap splice detail of SD700 headed bar experiment for developing an RC beam with different depths joint details. The experiment variable is lap splice length, yield strength, and end anchorage of main reinforcements. For all specimens, a headed bar was applied to the main reinforcement of the beam with low depth (B2), and the beam with high depth (B1) was applied to the main reinforcement with two splice methods: straight headed bar and 90° hooked-headed bar. The experimental results were that specimens of applying SD500 and SD600 had the results of flexural fracture at the lap splice location, which maximum load was similar. For specimens of appling SD500, the 90° hooked-headed bar of B1, suppressed horizontal cracks in the lap splice section compared to the straight headed bar. Specimens of applying an SD 700 headed bar had the results of brittle anchorage failure. In addition, maximum load was increased with the lap splice length increasing. For specimens of applying SD700 headed bar, test for test maximum load/theoretical load for test development length/design development length were estimated to be 1.30~1.48 for the ACI 318-19 equation, and 1.14~1.30 for the KDS-2021 equation. Thus, ACI 318-19 equation had conservatively greater safety factors as estimated development lengththened.

Moment-curvature relation of RC pier is influenced greatly in occurrence form of crack and difference is happened according to consideration existence and nonexistence of tension stiffening effect. However, studies considering these is very insufficient misgovernment. Also, it is sometimes unavoidable lap splice of axial reinforcement in plastic hinge region of RC piers. However, specific design standard about lap splice of axial reinforcement is unprepared real condition and study about effect that lap splice of axial reinforcement get in occurrence form of crack is insufficient misgovernment. Therefore, in this paper, experiments are performed with hollow RC piers that do lap splice of axial reinforcement by main variable. And this study present analytical method about moment-curvature relation of hollow RC pier that consider tension stiffening effect and analyze effect that lap splice of axial reinforcement gets in occurrence form of crack. Analytic method of moment-curvature relation of RC pier that present in this study shows very similar motion with experiment result and crack interval of RC pier is suffering dominate impact in the augmented reinforcement amount by lap splice and average crack interval decreases as lap splice ratio increases.
